Our first contact with the care home was under emergency circumstances, taking our mother-in-law at short notice. On a number of different occasions and each time, we felt she was treated with kindness and respect. Communication between the care home and ourselves was amazing. Daily activities and trips
keep her very engaged during all her stays. We have been very pleased with all their services and the kindness of all the staff. Thank you for everything.

My father was discharged to Donwell House from hospital at end of life with cancer. I cannot fault the staff at the home, they were lovely towards my dad and our family and nothing was ever a bother for them. I would have no hesitation in recommending the home to anyone requiring the service. They have
a great team of staff and are always doing something to keep the residents entertained.

Thanks for taking the time to review the home; the team and I are all thankful for your kind, considered words.

We chose Donwell House for our mam following recommendations and viewing the home ourselves. The warm welcome from management, staff and residents, not only to mam but to the wider family too, made the transition from 'home' to care home so much easier. We were always kept well informed of every detail
relating to mam's care and any requests or queries we had were quickly dealt with. As difficult as it was for Mam to leave her own home, she very quickly saw Donwell House as her new home, with lots of new friends. It was very clear to see how happy mam was. The end of mam's life in Dowell House was comfortable, peaceful and respectful. We could not be more grateful for this.

My mam received full nursing care after living independently from February 2023. She was made to feel very welcome and at home from every member of staff. She received excellent nursing care and was treated with warmth, dignity and compassion. I visited every day until her passing in July 2023 and was
always treated with kindness and warmth and can never thank them enough for all there support especially in Mams final days.

My father came to Donwell House from hospital for palliative care. We were very nervous about moving him to a care home, but all that vanished as soon as we met the staff and saw how they treated him. The warmth, care and dignity they provided for him in his last 4 weeks was amazing. My dad didn't always
make it easy for them as he was quite agitated during the night, but they really supported both him and my Mum during this difficult period. I would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone placing your loved one in their care.

When I visit the home to see my wife I am always met with a smile from the management and asked if I am ok. This means a lot to me. The carers and nurses look after my wife well. I know she is ok which gives me great peace of mind.

My dad went to Donwell as he had an aggressive brain tumour, and he was palliative when he went. Dad had spent five weeks in the hospital as we struggled to find a care package to get him home or into somewhere that could care for him.
A place at Donwell House became available, and after visiting and
chatting with the staff (who all knew he was coming even two days before!) and the nurses, we felt it was the right place.
It felt welcoming, warm, comforting and clean, with a good ratio of staff to patients, a registered nurse was always on site (two, a lot of the time), and everyone was caring.
Dad was only there for less than two weeks sadly, but they couldn't have done more for him. Every member of the family, who went, said that they were impressed by the level of care and the team.
I wouldn't have chosen anywhere else for my dad's last days as I felt he was safe and well cared for... I only wish that he'd been there sooner.
Thanks to everyone at Donwell House.

My grandad was only in Donwell House for four weeks before he sadly died. However, the care he received was second to none. He was very happy in the short time he was there. The care standard, staffing ratio and dignity and respect from all staff at Donwell House were exceptional. Thank you for looking
after my grandad.

Although my father was a resident in Donwell House for a short time before he suddenly passed away, the care and support he received from all members of staff were second to none. He was always treated with respect and dignity and his needs were met. He was always offered alternative food if he didn't
want what was on the menu and if he wanted to stay in bed instead of getting up, he was always cared for well. I can't thank the staff enough for their care to my father and my family.

My wife was discharged from the hospital on end of life care with an expectancy of days or possibly weeks to live. A care plan was implemented and because of the dedicated organisation of care my wife received by all the staff from senior management, nursing and care staff my wife's physical condition
improved so much that end of life care was no longer applicable. She still receives the most excellent care nineteen months on. Grateful thanks to all staff, especially for the compassion and dedication.

As my mother has only been in Donwell House Nursing Home since the 24th of March I can only rate good for most things as this is too early to tell, but having said that in the short while my mother has been there she has become more happy, settled and for the first time in months I have seen her smile,
this proves to me Donwell are doing something right.

My gran has been in Donwell for a number of years and the last couple of years my grandad too. Always found them amazing, friendly and caring. Over the last couple of months, my grandad has become very unwell and staff at Donwell are always straight on the phone to me whilst giving him excellent care
if there is any problem. He is in hospital at the moment but still has contact with me and always gives me support. Couldn’t have chosen a better place for them to live their final years.

My mother-in-law is so happy at this care home. She is so well looked after and cared for even though she has very challenging needs. Staff are fantastic with her and treat her like their own family. She loves the food and has even gained some weight which was definitely needed from when she first arrived.
Couldn’t recommend it enough.

My mother is being looked after by the lovely staff in Donwell House. She has dementia and is immobile due to breaking her hip and not being able to walk now, but the carers are fabulous and make sure she’s comfortable and attended to. I don’t live close by and rely on them to do everything for her.

My father in law age 96 was in Donwell House Nursing Home due to fall risk and with Alzheimer's Dementia and severely sight impaired along with other problems. The care that he recieved was second to none, he was a gentleman that did not want to leave his own home but settled in very quickly due to
the friendly staff and around the clock supervision. He has now sadly passed away and I can't express my thanks enough to everyone in Donwell House Nursing Home for the loving care that he received also to the support given to myself and my son.
Everyone is extremely friendley and thoughtful to your needs.
Keep up the good work you are stars.

Where do I start? The staff, management and running of this care facility is amazing. They all care and the comfort, care, dignity and happiness of the resident are their top priority. The activity's undertaken by the home are fun and thoughtful. My mum is constantly smiling. The staff here do not stop,
but nothing is too much trouble and are always friendly and smiling. The nursing side also deserves high praise. My dad is being looked after with care and dignity as life is drawing to an end, their kindness will be remembered.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.048)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.048) out of 10 for Donwell House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.972 for Donwell House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (70 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.972

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.076 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Donwell House Nursing Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.6 = 0.476

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
