Falstone Manor Care Home, located close to the seafront of Roker, provides personalised residential, nursing and dementia care to older people.

I have lived at Falstone Manor for eight years, my bedroom has a lovely sea view and very impressed. It has gone through a major refurbishment, to help improve the lives of its residents and working conditions for its staff, investing significant sums of money into providing modern, state-of-the-art
facilities including open plan dining areas, hairdressing room, wooden floors throughout and more. The staff are excellent, the new management is superb, and I am extremely happy. The administrator is always very helpful with anything I need. Falstone Manor Care Home is always kept clean and tidy.

Mam is very independant and doesn't like to ask for help. Overnight she receives excellent care and attention from the care team and would like them to know how they help her. Day staff are too numerous to mention - Mam feels cared for by a dedicated team of familiar staff including the housekeepers.

Mam was discharged into Falstone Manor Care Home from hospital after pneumonia. She was severely depressed and still very unwell on arrival into their care. The team have worked tirelessly to make Mam feel safe and secure, she has been encouraged to eat and wash and has gone from not wanting to leave
her room to making friends and thriving in the environment. Her room/bathroom and the home itself are always immaculate, her clothes are washed and returned promptly, she has been on a trip to the stadium and enjoyed online yoga and the other activities offered. I was really worried about Mam going into care and can honestly say the staff have been amazing and extremely kind, keeping the family up to date on her progress. Needless to say, Mam has decided she wants to stay there permanently, we spent weeks looking at different care homes and visits and can safely say we feel we have made the right choice for her, she is thoroughly enjoying her sea view on the top floor.

Very poor care. Lack of hygiene and cleanliness towards an elderly lady with dementia.
Evident resident is not being showered regularly, nor being assisted to maintain hygiene with even a basin wash at the chairside.
Breath is foul smelling as no oral hygiene is promoted.
Relative is always soiled,
clothing soiled, soiled clothes lying around the room.
Leg dressings are always stained, soaked and substandard application, resulting in tourniquet affect around calves and feet. Ooze from legs wounds repeatedly soaked through dressings, trousers and draining onto slippers and fabric covered footstool. The floor in front of chair is always sticky with oedematous ooze.
The floor appears rarely swept/ hoovered or washed.


Unable to speak to the one nurse who is supposedly on duty, the last 3 times we have visited have asked support workers who cannot answer our queries or provide any information regarding the supposed individual care plan for our relative.
Very very unsatisfactory and distressing.

Overall, I am very happy with the end of life care my mother received. The home is very clean and warm with good facilities and I feel confident my mother was safe and well cared for in her final weeks. The number of staff on duty could at times be improved, but all the nurses and carers were very
kind and supportive.

In the last four years, when my father lived at Falstone Manor Care Home, he was given the most outstanding care throughout his time there, especially during his end-of-life care. I could not fault the home or the staff. I would like to thank each and every member of the staff who gave me their utmost
kindness and care for my father. I would also like to thank the care manager and general manager for going above and beyond at m difficult time.

My sister has been in the care home for a number of years and during that period we have had our ups and downs, especially with the lack of staff and lack of entertainment, but at present staff have been really caring and kind to both my sister and myself. I have also seen improvement in the entertainment
which has been lovely to see.

My mother went to live at Falstone Manor in January 2018. At all times she was treated with dignity and so much care surrounded her. Her reason for going to live there was she had a stroke in December 2017 and therefore needed 24-hour care thereafter. The staff looked after Mam so well and made sure
her wishes and family's wishes were met at trying to keep her out of hospital. Even at the end of her life Mam was well looked after and passed away peacefully in her own bed as per her wishes.

Moving Mum to Falstone was made easy by the wonderful supportive staff, in a very difficult year due to covid. Falstone ensured Mum was extremely well looked after and kept safe. Hopefully activities, outings and visits will be available after vaccinations.

My Mam entered Falstone Manor on 6th March, the lockdown commenced 12th which was worrying as being a constant presence with her we were concerned about her mental/emotional state.
We are without doubt, grateful for the pro-active approach that was adopted to try and prevent Covid entering the home
and ultimately keeping mam safe, this has been and continues to be a challenge for everyone.
We would appreciate our heartfelt thanks and appreciation being passed on to everyone who cares for my mam as they continue to give her the care and attention she needs in such difficult times, also the understanding shown when we ring to speak to mam.
We as a family look forward to the day when this dreadful disease is eradicated and we can visit regularly, as I can see her starting to struggle emotionally and the basic human need to have a hug from her loving family and friends.
I would again like to thank everyone involved in Mam's care and wish them all the very best as where would we be without them.

My father moved into Falstone Manor in January 2020. Since then, his health and mental well being have improved significantly. The care he receives is consistently outstanding. All staff are exceptionally caring and I can't thank them enough for all they do for my father at all times, but especially
for keeping him safe and well during the pandemic.

I would just like to say thank you very much for the care and affection you gave to Dad while in your care. During the 28 months, he spent in the home until his death on 30th Dec 2019,
he was always made to feel special by all the staff. This was evident in how upset everyone was when Dad passed away.
He was always treated with dignity and respect at all times not just when he passed away. The staff in the home are all a credit to the care profession. Thank you so much for this.

We chose Falstone Manor because of its prime seafront location. More modern than other Care Homes we also visited. The first point is great rooms good facilities, wide corridors, proper lifts to the 3 floors. The second point, make sure you visit care homes without an appointment. See how things look
on a normal day. For mam on the first day we helped complete a long questionnaire about diet, habits likes etc and everything seemed good. Then we found the Care staff on the floor were very nice especially at visiting times. Mams not happy and she hasn't settled into the care home environment. A major downside of this place is that it's difficult for us trying to get feedback about how mams doing. We've had no involvement in any review of mams Care Plan in 12 months despite it being asked for a number of times. This Care Home is run by a large organisation, HC One and managers and Directors don't properly engage with immediate families of residents. It's not right but that's what happens.

My Mum was in the Falstone Manor Nursing Home in Sunderland for three years and I cannot fault the care she received throughout that time. All the staff were so caring, as I and my family live in Somerset, I was initially concerned about not being able to check on her welfare as often as I’d like. I
need not have worried - every visit, coupled with regular telephone updates, meant that I was continually reassured about my Mum’s condition.
Every member of staff I came into contact with was exceptionally caring and all the residents I saw were treated with respect and dignity and, even though the care staff are always very busy, they still find time for a chat and a joke with residents.
The home itself was always clean and welcoming, and it really was a pleasure to visit. Those that were able to interact with the caring staff were clearly happy and indeed we spent some very amusing hours listening to their stories and jokes. A very big Thank You to all staff.

It wasn't an easy decision to put Mam into a care home but couldn't have chosen a better one. Kind, friendly staff who showed Mam lots of love and helped to retain her dignity through difficult times. Would highly recommend this nursing home, which has a lovely position overlooking the sea.

The care my Mam received was second to none. She loved it and I did too. We were always made to feel welcomed and nothing was too much trouble. We have loved making friends with the staff and will miss not seeing them.
