The Laurels Care Home provides a range of tailored care plans for short or long-term stays. Care includes general nursing care, residential care, and residential dementia care. The home also has facilities to provide end-of-life care if required. A team of qualified and experienced ancillary staff work hard to provide the best possible round-the-clock care.

With its ideal location in the centre of Hetton-le-Hole, Tyne and Wear, residents can benefit from the many nearby amenities as well as good transport links to Sunderland and Durham.

This two-storey property has been refurbished to a high standard and features tastefully decorated, single bedrooms each with en-suite facilities. Families are encouraged to bring in personal items for their loved ones to encourage a more homely and familiar environment.

During their stay, residents are assessed by health professionals including occupational therapists and care managers. Referrals are usually made by the care managers or hospital team.

My mam has perked up a lot since coming in here, she gets on well with everyone and all the staff are brilliant. She eats 3 good meals a day and staff check on her a lot throughout the day and when they can sit with her just to keep her company. I would recommend The Laurels 100%.

Mam is very happy at The Laurels. She receives very good care and we have good relationships with all carers. The food is excellent and varied. There is a very good activities programme and all residents enjoy the variety of activities on offer. All social events are well supported by relatives and
all staff at The Laurels. Some staff give up their own personal time to be involved in activities/events with residents. Overall, I would have no hesitation in recommending The Laurels to anyone looking for good quality care and support for their relatives.

I need never have worried about my mother coming to live in a residential home. She is so well looked after, good meals, a lovely room, and plenty of entertainment and activities. The staff are all brilliant and make her feel safe and that is priceless!

My Gran has gone from strength to strength since she came to live here. She is well looked after by all the staff especially two :-) She has even joined in some activities thanks to their encouragement! We have enjoyed lots of the family activities such as the Easter Egg hunt and Halloween party. It
is a lovely friendly home x

In my opinion the care home is lovely, the residents are wonderfully cared for by all the staff. All of whom are so approachable and nothing seems to much trouble to them. I am very impressed by all of the activities and events that take place within the home. The residents always seem happy as I enter
the home. It's a lovely, homely and friendly atmosphere. This gives me great peace of mind, knowing my special friend is being well cared for and is safe. The home is always kept lovely and clean.

My mam came into this home because she was no longer safe to be on her own. It was a huge decision and very stressful. I came to have a look at the care home and from coming in the door- the feeling was good - home with no smell! (very important!) I knew it was the right place for mam but had to get
the family to decide for themselves as it was a joint decision. From mam arriving 23/12/16 The Laurels have only her best interests at heart. Any problem she has had mainly, trying to be independent, have been looked at and solutions given. All of the staff in The Laurels are lovely and obviously put the residents first! Not once have I heard a resident being shouted at or spoken to in an appropriate manner. Everyone just seems to have the residents best interests at heart- I now don't worry about my mam too much as I know she is getting the best appropriate care for her needs. I just want to say a huge "Thank you" to The Laurels staff, they should be proud!

Job Title: Home Manager

Emma is a qualified registered general nurse with over 21 years of experience. First working in the NHS and climbing her way to up to becoming a senior critical care nurse for 16 years. Emma’s career has continued to progress, with a focus on the social care sector, Emma has gone from clinical lead to deputy manager and now Home Manager.


When she is not caring for residents, family-oriented Emma takes pleasure in spending time with her husband and daughter and the rest of their family and friends.


Outside of work, Emma considers one of her biggest achievements to be raising her daughter, who she takes immense pride in.
