Maple Lodge Care Home is located in Sunderland's Witherwack suburb and is close to shops, amenities, public transport and the A19. The Bridges Shopping Centre is just one mile away.

This purpose built care home offers nursing and social care for the frail elderly and the elderly mentally infirm. Maple Lodge provides TV lounges and a quiet sitting room for relaxation. Separate dining rooms, where residents can socialise at meal times, are also offered. Traditional home cooked food is served using fresh produce with residents being able to select from the choices available daily. Special diets can be catered for.

The home is visited on a regular basis by an experienced hair stylist and qualified chiropodist. Complementary therapies can also be arranged. Residents may benefit from the varied programme of activities that are provided and the large gardens.

Dad had previously been to two homes and they were unable to meet his needs. Maple Lodge Care Home and its staff provided an excellent service to Dad. They were caring and fully attended to his needs and gave him the dignity and care he needed. I wish Dad had gone to this home originally and he would
have been more settled and happy in his final few months. I would not hesitate to recommend this home for your loved ones based on our experience.

My dad was a resident at Maple Lodge for approximately three years, until he passed away two weeks ago. We cannot praise this care home enough. The management and care staff have been excellent, throughout my dad’s stay. The staff quickly built a pleasing relationship with my dad and made him feel ‘at
home’ throughout his time there.
The communication, with us, his family, has been fantastic, even throughout the crazy Covid situation. We are so pleased that his final few years were spent at this smashing establishment.

I don't really know where to start with a review of Maple Lodge because no praise is too much praise, and no words can really do justice to the care that every single woman and man showed to my mum, who was a resident there for four years. The home itself is great, but a building, its furniture or its
tables and chairs isn't really what makes a care home great. A care home is only as good as the people who work there and who care for the residents, and on every count, the staff at Maple Lodge were absolutely wonderful for and to my mum, and she thought the world of all of them. Their kindness and their willingness to fulfil whatever needs she had were limitless. And these aren't just words without real meaning - it comes from the heart. The level of care in every way went beyond what anyone could expect, and the staff treated my mother just like they would treat their own mothers or how they would wish their own family to be treated by others. My eternal gratitude to everyone.

My dad has been a resident here for over a year. He passed away today but he was looked after by the fabulous caring staff. I can't praise them enough. He was treated with dignity and respect even when he had infections etc and hallucinations and was throwing his false teeth at them. Thank you Maple
Lodge staff and thank you to the previous manager because he loved having chats with you.

I went into Maple Lodge Care Home for short term care as I needed some extra support and could not be on my own at home. I was very nervous when I went to stay at Maple Lodge Care Home and kept in my bedroom for the first week. The staff came in and chatted with me numerous times throughout the day
and introduced themselves; it was very welcoming and built my confidence. I started going into the communal rooms and got friendly with other service users and I started to enjoy my stay. Without the support of the staff team, I would have probably had a miserable stay, but they changed all that. I respect and admire their courage, confidence and hard work. Thank you, especially to six particular members of staff. All the staff are fantastic and service users are fabulous. Thank you to you all for the whole experience.

My mum has lived here since November 2019, with dementia and physical ailments requiring nursing care. The carers and nursing staff have all been lovely with my mum, who shows confidence and appreciation to them in return.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming for residents and families. Staff are
always approachable and take a very active personal interest.
Residents are encouraged to join in as they are able to the wide range of events and activities, which provide constructive stimulation and enjoyment. Residents and staff participate together, e.g. the Winter Olympics, "arts and crafts, cooking, reminiscing, quizzes, bingo or just having a good old sing-along", and Gardening Club (indoors and out). Staff spend time getting to know residents in one to one times.
The staff fulfil the manager’s approach that this is the residents' home and that they want to make it as comfortable and satisfying as possible, and she thanks families "for allowing us to care for your loved ones".

Mam went into Maple Lodge in September 2021. She has mixed dementia with underlying health conditions. Mam is leaving the home to return to a home that was destroyed by fire but has now been rebuilt. The home is nearer her family and the place she used to live. Mam has received excellent care whilst
in Maple Lodge. She has become more settled and has commented on several occasions that she loves the staff. So we will always be grateful to them. We have always been able to call the home anytime, and have always been made to feel welcome. However, we feel the home itself needs improvement. Mam has a room upstairs and I must say, the difference in decor from downstairs to upstairs is clearly visible. Downstairs being more cosy and homely but upstairs is stark. This is also something Mam has commented on several times even with her poor sight. We know upstairs is EMI, but surely it deserves the same attention to detail. This is through no fault of staff, but Four Seasons. Thanks to all.

Our family would like to thank the staff and management of Maple Lodge Care Home for the outstanding care that they gave to my father in the last six months of his life who passed January 15, 2022 .
The care the staff showed was outstanding and professional from day one no matter what was required
to make him happy and comfortable and nothing was ever a problem to any one of them.
I would also like to thank the staff for the outstanding management and leadership shown while dealing with the family, nothing was ever a problem to them, no matter what time of day, if you had any concerns they were always on the end of the phone.
Our family knew from day one when we went to visit to discuss Dad that this was the right place to spend and be happy in his last days. We were reassured from day one that they always put their residents first and believe me, this was true.
This is an outstanding care home and professional team thank you all so much.

My mam went into Maple Lodge in March 2021 suffering from advanced dementia, and we couldn't be happier with how she is since she went there. The day we took her in she tottled off with the 2 carers who were waiting to greet us and she never even glanced back at us, so we knew that was a good sign.
In the few months that she has been there, she is so settled and so much happier than she ever was. She loves all the staff and they are marvellous with her. She is eating better, sleeping better than ever before and that is all down to the carers and staff at Maple Lodge. We seriously couldn't thank them enough as my mam is absolutely thriving and we could not be any happier. This is all down to the care she receives at Maple Lodge. We could not thank you enough.

Maple Lodge care team staff were very kind and supportive to my mam. Communication with me was excellent over my mam’s care. My mam always said the staff were kind to her. Maple Lodge always was clean and well managed when I visited. They managed the final days of my mam’s life with care and dignity.

My 98-year-old mother was transferred here during lockdown, after the home she was living in was damaged by fire. It was a very traumatic time for her and for us, her family, but my mother was very well cared for even though, at times, she could be difficult. The move and isolation caused by the lockdown
had a detrimental effect on her mental health but she was treated with great care and attention. During her last illness, I could not fault the nursing care she received and she and we were treated with such kindness.

My mam went into Maple Lodge for respite as my dad was taken ill. She settled very well and loved the staff. We had a window visit with Mam at the beginning of February with Dad, Mam was happy and settled, which was a blessing as Dad was quite worried about her. She told us how she had made new friends,
had been baking cakes and the girls were lovely. Unfortunately, my mam suffered a stroke on 9th February and was taken to hospital and died on the 13th. I cannot praise the care staff enough, they made our mam's last few weeks happy and we as a family will be forever grateful for that.

All the staff were amazing supporting my mam and all the family during her end of life care. They even took calls from my brother in the USA during the night! We are extremely thankful that we had the support of all the team at Maple Lodge during the time Mam stayed with them. From the moment they welcomed

Helen has worked in the care home sector for many years, and has been a Deputy Manager at various places over the years, before joining Maple Lodge as Home Manager in December 2022. Helen has her Level 5 NVQ in Management and is also a qualified Care Home Assistant Practitioner who specialises in both elderly and complex care. Family time is very important to Helen. She spends her free time travelling with her children and husband, and Helen’s proudest achievement outside of work is raising her children and watching them grow into the people they are today.
