My lovely wife has dementia, and came to Teesdale Lodge straight from a stay in hospital. She was sent there for palliative care, and I was told she only had two weeks, maybe two months to live. That was thirteen months ago. The fact that she is still with us, and will be celebrating her 74th birthday
next month, is all down to the wonderful care she gets a from Teesdale Lodge staff. I can never thank them enough. The care she got was very good, but thanks to the director and the guidance of the new manager, things have gone from good to excellent. The manager is a very caring and dedicated manager, and with the help of all of the carers, nurses, laundry dept., housekeeping, administrators, catering staff, and I mustn't forget our lovely activities coordinator, who all gel and work well together, things can only get better. I haven't seen my wife since 'lockdown', and miss my daily visits to see her, the other residents and staff, who have become like a second family.

Due to restrictions around viewing homes, I spoke with the manager and was extremely impressed with how he explained what the home was about and how they could support my mam’s needs. Very clear and concise about how the Lodge was dealing with residents around the coronavirus, and what it would mean
for my Mam. He was very helpful and kind as this had been a difficult decision to come to that Mam needed to have some respite care. Mam has been assessed and I have been kept updated every step of the way, and staff contacted me to let me know they were making sure my Mam would be paying the correct tariff. Even though I have been unable to view the home and see my Mam settle, I have been left supported and reassured by the staff at Teesdale Lodge that they are providing my Mam with the care and attention she needs to get back on her feet. Thank you to everyone involved at Teesdale Lodge in making my Mam feel welcomed, and her family reassured she is in the right place

My dad has been a resident of Teesdale Lodge Nursing Home for three months following his discharge from hospital after suffering a massive stroke. As soon as we first visited Teesdale Lodge (unannounced) to look around, we were made to feel immediately welcome. Teesdale Lodge just had the right 'feeling'
and we knew after our first visit that Teesdale Lodge was the best possible place for him. It's been a huge adjustment for my dad who now has complex care needs, yet the team at Teesdale Lodge have treated my dad like a member of the family. You can see the relationship he has built with the nurses, care staff, manager and housekeeper. He is treated with respect and love and this is hugely important to us especially during the current period of lockdown (Covid-19) when we can't visit. We are kept up to date with all aspects of dads care and all of the staff are hugely helpful, courteous and polite. Thank you to the full team for supporting us too through such a challenging period.

My mum needed end of life/palliative care and I visited Teesdale Lodge to see if it was a suitable place for my mum to go. Immediately I was struck at how caring and empathetic the nursing home manager came across and how approachable and open he was. Mums transfer to the nursing home from hospital
was carried out in a smooth and caring manner. Mum passed away after two weeks at Teesdale, however, the care mum was given was outstanding. She deteriorated very quickly and the nursing care was responsive to the medical needs of mum and she was treated with genuine care, dignity and consideration. One particular nurse was attentive to mums medical needs and made sure she was not in pain at any time during her care. All the staff were brilliant, not only did they look after mum exceptionally well they also looked after myself and the other members of the family visiting with the same care and attention. Thank you to everyone working at Teesdale Lodge.

Our mam was in this care home for 3 months and in that time she received the best care we could have hoped for. Mam was shown love, respect and great care in that time, nothing was of any trouble to any of the staff. Before Mam went into Teesdale, we researched different homes and this was recommended
to us. We were not disappointed. We would highly recommend this place and you will not get any better anywhere. Our mam passed away on 1st December 2019 and the staff were amazing, helping the family with whatever we needed.

This care home has gone above and beyond the call of duty to my Mum. She was happy, clean, warm and most of all loved by every member of the team and nothing was too much trouble for them. My mum made friends and had a very comfortable and pain-free end to life. The staff were so helpful to the family
and nothing was too much for them in the family's eyes. This care home gets a gold 5-star rating from us.

In 2016 mum was discharged from hospital to Teesdale Lodge. At the time she was very frail after a stroke followed by an aggressive UTI. The staff were supportive and welcoming, nursing her well. Mum gradually settled enjoying chatting to staff who coaxed her to eat. She was treated well. Teesdale Lodge
was a welcoming friendly place where we could spend time with mum. I came daily due to good care and nursing we were lucky to get almost 3 more years with mum at 93 years before the second stroke.

After going to many different nursing homes when looking for somewhere for my father-in-law we found Teesdale Lodge. We were welcomed didn't have to make an appointment and thought straight away this was the home we needed for Dad. When Dad arrived we were told he had around 6 to 8 weeks left in his
life. With the wonderful care from the staff, the facilities and the meals etc had kept him going for two and a half years which we thank the Lodge for. While Dad was well enough he went to all the activities enjoyed sing-alongs with entertainers who come in and as a family, we were invited too, with a wonderful time had by all. The staff are caring, friendly people always had time for a chat and a joke with Dad as well as the family. Nothing was ever to much trouble, the manager kept us informed on any change in Dads care we had also found her very approachable and knowledgeable about Dad and his care. I would highly recommend this care home without any doubt

My wife recently had a very bad fall at home and was advised to go into a nursing home for an assessment, not knowing about Teesdale Lodge we were very pleased with the support and care that she received there. The staff are a good mix of mature and younger people who worked well together they could
not have done any more for her, and after some 16 days, she was well enough to return home. We would certainly recommend without hesitation any worries that anyone having to go into a nursing home should have to choose this one.

Teesdale Lodge was a great recommendation and find for Dad and his family, we could not ask for more from the staff and facilities here. Hard decision to put an elderly parent in a care/nursing home but at Teesdale Lodge, all the worry was taken away for Dad and his family. They are always there for
the residents and always there for the rest of the family. Great support from every member i.e., care workers, nurses, manager, catering cleaners.

I visited my uncle at 8 am which is the time I usually visit on my day off. I always find my uncle clean and well cared for and well shaved. The room is always clean and fresh smelling.
I was there when his breakfast came which was well presented and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I always find the staff
friendly and treat my uncle with respect and dignity.

I am so pleased we found Teesdale Lodge Nursing Home for our mother as she has received outstanding care for the three years she has resided there. She has been treated with dignity and she has always been lovely and clean. The carers have been outstanding in making her feel at home. They have so much
patience with the residents and nothing is any trouble to them.
Unfortunately, our mother passed away in November and whilst she was ill, my brother and I stayed there day and night with her. The staff took good care of us as well as her and they were so kind, giving us countless cups of coffee and sandwiches etc.
I can't thank all the staff enough for looking after our mother so well.

My father was a resident for only a few weeks and sadly passed away recently. During his short stay, he appeared to have been happy and settled and was actively participating in the regular activities. The staff were caring and compassionate. The food was lovely- 3 courses at lunch and always varied.
Nothing was too much trouble for the chef if dad was late getting up. He could not feed himself when he left the hospital and progressed to feeding himself unaided. The Physiotherapists were excellent in progressing my dad's mobility. I was told by the hospital they could not see him walking again, within a couple of weeks they had him mobilising with a frame with assistance. The home was spotlessly clean, nice bedrooms where he could have his own TV and things from home. Our family were made to feel welcome and the staff were friendly and sociable. They were open and honest and any requests we made they always endeavoured to follow through.

My dad was admitted to Teesdale Lodge Nursing Home as he required 24hr care due to many illnesses Parkinson's and cancer to name a few. We did have a few teething problems but overall the care was fantastic.
He was made to feel welcome and comfortable from his first day and they looked after him well,
we could get a cuppa whenever we wanted so it was just like being at home and this was very important to him. The meals were home cooked and very tasty and plenty of choices and accommodating for a soft diet.
I could visit at any time day or night both dad and I felt like part of a big family, the help and support myself and family received especially the last week was so much appreciated, keeping us fed and watered to keep our strength up and nothing was a problem we even stayed overnight.
Thank you to all the staff from the management, nurses, carers, kitchen, laundry and housekeeping to the handy man

My uncle has been in Teesdale Lodge for a couple of years now and when he first had his stroke, we were told not to be hopeful for any independent living. He could not feed himself, walk or talk. The staff at the nursing home have cared for him really well and now he can feed himself. He is happy, cared
for and has friendly, caring nursing and staff looking after him.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.173)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.173) out of 10 for Teesdale Lodge Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.528 for Teesdale Lodge Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (21 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.528

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.645 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Teesdale Lodge Nursing Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.395

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
