Formerly named Blackwell Vale - Riverwell Beck Care Home was renamed in June 2022 to celebrate its extensive refurbishment project, GOOD CQC rating (May 2022) and next chapter under the management of Mariposa Care, providing first-class nursing care for people living with complex medical needs and 24-hour nursing dementia care, delivered by a specialist team.

Riverwell also offers residential care for people who need help with everyday tasks, as well as residential dementia care. The caring and compassionate staff go above and beyond to support residents to maintain their independence, encourage social activity and to build relationships within the home.

The home is located only a short drive from Carlisle city, close to Upperby Park, local shops and with good public transport links, making it an ideal location for visitors.

My mother came to Blackwell Vale approximately 9 months ago, and although she does not have dementia, she is unable to express herself when speaking and finds it difficult to put her thoughts into words (Aphasia). She also has difficulty walking and has a slight loss of movement in her right arm. The
home has a caring, homely atmosphere and the staff are very helpful to both residents and visitors. There are several activities to occupy the residents, both in house and through visiting parties, and special events are organised throughout the year. The food is substantial, and visitors are encouraged to have a meal with their relatives (at a small donation). The management and staff are always available to discuss any concerns we may have about the resident's care, and I have had first-hand experience as to how quickly they have rectified my concerns. I consider my mother to be well looked after by the staff, and the recent meeting with the new manager has reassured me that the home is moving forward in the care of its residents.

Dad moved into Blackwell Vale several weeks ago. The staff are kind, welcoming and cheerful. The home is clean and well managed, and the formalities of admission were efficiently and thoughtfully completed.
The nurses and carers took great care to make Dad's transition from the previous care home
stress-free and welcoming. Despite coming at fairly short notice his room was made to look homely and reminiscent of his previous room; the lovely handyman even popped his head around the door a few hours after Dad had arrived to check all the pictures were well placed and did we want anything else done?
We are very happy with Dad's new home.

Lovely staff, nothing ever too much trouble. My mam seems to be settling in nicely. All meals are homemade and always a good choice. The room is nicely furnished, clean and bright.

Pleasant environment. Very friendly and helpful carers and staff. My father has settled into the new environment and is now more relaxed. Our requests (bed length) were quickly resolved.

No mangers, not enough nurses, no finance staff, not enough staff working at the care home. Food all over the floor and patients. Patients left in urine and faeces, always has a bad smell in the care home. Leave patients with bad feet and toenails. Just badly run to me, no one does anything about complaints.
This has been going on for years. Patients have really dirty fingernails. I just feel the staff are struggling. Lots of agency workers.

An experienced home manager with 25 years’ experience and a background in providing a high level of quality care has recently joined the home. They are ably supported by a Deputy Manager who has been at the home for over a year and at Four Seasons Health Care for 8 years.
Blackwell Vale works with allied health professionals in dentistry, ophthalmology and chiropody amongst others. The health and wellbeing of our residents is of the utmost importance to us.

Mum needs 24/7 care as she is mostly bedridden. I am so relieved by the care she receives. I am kept well informed of her state of health. There is genuine care for her well being by all members of staff. We are able to visit any time we want and bring the family pet. I am so glad to be able to give
her lunch myself when I visit. The staff are so friendly and helpful. A relaxed and homely atmosphere enjoyed by all of us.

This care home has provided my mother with all the care she needs. Cannot fault the carers and nursing staff, they make everyone feel welcome, even visitors. The home itself is clean and tidy. Only concern is, if any, is the lack of hot meals, but can understand staff can only go by her word if she
refuses.

My mother has been in Blackwell Vale for over two years and is quite happy there. Obviously, she would rather be at home, but unfortunately, at 99 it isn't possible. I think the home has improved a lot in the last two years, both from a management and a caring point of view.
Everyone is extremely
helpful, cheerful and conscientious and I would recommend it to anyone.

My dad was very well looked after by all the staff, from the cleaners to the manager. They all had a big caring attitude and spoke to all their clients by name.

My Mum was initially nervous about moving into a nursing home but seeing how quickly she settled at Blackwell Vale put any reservations I had to rest very quickly. The staff are all very friendly and personable and I have found my Mum happy and content with every visit. Overall the help we have received
concerning Mum's general care and wellbeing has been excellent!

Wendy is extremely proud of the team she has at Blackwell Vale and believes that they do an excellent job and it is through them, that the home has built its reputation as being a good place for people to come and receive 24 hour care.
