My father has just had 2 weeks respite stay at Lanercost House Care Home. He has had a fantastic time. So much so, has booked to return in July. The staff have been superb nothing is a problem. The food was excellent. The room was kept clean to a high standard. All staff were very caring and friendly.

A very nice event with really good music and food in a lovely room. All the staff were very friendly and helpful making it a great day, The birthday cake they made was very nice too.

I recently looked at Lanercost House Care Home for my mum who has dementia and is also physically frail. She has been in care elsewhere and I wanted to bring her closer to where I live. I visited and spoke with the team on a number of occasions and was very impressed by the staff managers, carers, activities
coordinator, laundry and kitchen staff. I have eventually opted to place Mum elsewhere but this was purely to suit her very specific needs. The manager has been extremely helpful and personally supportive during the assessment process. I understand that the home will be having a makeover in Spring 2023 which will make Lanercost even more attractive. If Mum needs change I will have no hesitation in getting back in touch.

Lanercost House Care Home rose to the challenge of preparing a last-minute birthday celebration for my father's 80th. As a new resident we were worried that there wouldn't be time to prepare a party, but they went above and beyond to ensure that family and friends could celebrate. She organised a singer,
the room and balloons etc-it was perfect. We couldn't have asked for more and all on her day off, coming in especially. An amazing place with amazing staff.

My mother is receiving end-of-life care at Lanercost House. The important word is care. Everyone, from the manager to the handyman really cares about her comfort and her dignity. I cannot praise them enough - management, admin and clinical all go the extra mile to ensure that she gets attentive, caring
and respectful treatment. My mother says she feels safe, and that is extremely important to the family. We could not wish for a better care home. Thank you.

My wife went into Lanercost House for dementia care about 2 weeks ago. The staff and the manager have been totally supportive both to me and my wife before admission and in the initial very difficult time of taking over care from me. The staff have been very friendly and professional and seem to understand
the trauma that this illness generates in the affected partner and their family, particularly in their nearest and dearest carer. The rooms are a little small but well-decorated and the regime is relaxed, clean, comfortable and reasonably staffed. It is early days but I am very happy for my dear wife of over 55 years to be in the care of Lanercost House.

My husband was a respite patient in June and is in the latter stages of Parkinson’s. l was a little apprehensive and felt guilty, but as his carer, l knew l needed help. l should not have worried - his stay was absolutely brilliant, and the care and attention were first class. They were aware of his
needs and the importance of Parkinson’s medication and how it has to be given at specific times and understood his eating and drinking issues. His room and bed were spotless. Communication was brilliant, and he made a favourable impression on everyone he came in contact with. No issues or health problems arose, and I can now continue caring for him with the knowledge that when l need a break again and there is availability, he would be welcome back. Many thanks from a happy, grateful wife.

My father has been in Lanercost priory in Carlisle since 2019. When he arrived from the hospital, he was a dead man walking. He could barely stand up; he had forgotten how to eat and swallow and was told he would have a long-term catheter. When I have seen him the day he arrived at Lanercost, it broke
my heart even though I visited him in hospital just four weeks before. His hospital discharge notes said ‘end of life care’. No one expected my dad to live over the next few days. But the love, care, support, and determination of the carers brought my dad back to life. They saved his life! Helping him eat and drink and spending time to get my dad back to a healthy diet. They did not give up on him. Catheter removed and amazing weight gain! He is the man he was except for Alzheimer’s. He has now been in Lanercost for almost three years this September! Thank you, Lanercost carers and management for saving my dad's life.

First of all, I would like to apologize for the late review. To start with, the management team has been fantastic, it was a hard three months getting my mum moved up to Lanercost from her care home in Oxfordshire.
Mum has been at Lanercost Care home for 2-months now, and she is settling in very well.
The Carers are fantastic, so kind and friendly, can't thank them enough.
So very happy.

Extremely helpful, plenty of activities always clean and well dressed. The food seems to be very good. The room is small but adequate with all amenities. The meeting place in the lounge is good for stimulation.

Hi, I'm Alan, Head of Maintenance at Lanercost House.


My role is paramount when it comes to our Residents, Relatives and Colleagues, I am responsible for ensuring the home environment is of the highest standards possible, ultimately creating a safe and warm place for Residents to live and my Colleagues to work.


I re-joined Lanercost House in January 2023 after previously being part of the team since 2003. I value being part of Barchester Healthcare and I am pleased I have been able to find my way back to working here at Lanercost.

Hi, my name is Layla and I am the Senior Nurse here at Lanercost House care home. I have worked here at Lanercost House for eight years and I can honestly say I love coming to work and caring for the residents.
Making a difference to our residents is fundamentally the biggest privilege within our role. I am passionate about providing the best practice palliative care, supporting both residents and family during the most difficult of times.

Hello, I'm Caroline, I am a Staff Nurse here at Lanercost House.


I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1992 and began working in care homes straight away. I have undertaken staff nurse posts as well as working as a registered manager before joining Lanercost in 2005.

I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.


I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.


I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being. Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone. I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.


I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents. I love my job!

Hi, I'm Claire and I am the Home Administrator here at Lanercost House.


I joined the team in 2021 after working at another Barchester home previously. My door is always open if anyone needs to discuss anything, whether that is Residents looking to order newspapers, Relatives making invoice enquiries or Staff to discuss payroll.

Hi, my name is Becky and I am the Administrative Assistant here at Lanercost House.


I am based at Reception so will I be the first face you see when you enter the home. I will be sure to give you a warm welcome.


I have worked in administration for many years including with the NHS. I love the variety in the role, meeting our Residents and their families and supporting them through the process of moving into our home.


It is a pleasure to work here and be part of the Lanercost family, we all work together to provide our Residents with a wonderful life.

My name is Joy and I started working for Barchester in 1994 as a Care Assistant and eventually took on the position of Senior Carer. I obtained my NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Health and Social Care and an opportunity arose to move into a Physiotherapy Assistant role, which really appealed to me, as I feel it gives me hands-on experience and allows me lots of one-to-one time with Residents.

Job Title: Head Housekeeper

Hello, I'm Emma and I lead the Housekeeping Team at Lanercost House. I have many years experience working as a Care Assistant, but joined Lanercost in 2020 as a Housekeeping Assistant and progressed to Head Housekeeper in Aug 2023.


I visit Residents rooms each day and enjoy chatting to them. It is one big family at Lanercost House and we all look after each other, it is for this reason I love coming to work each day.

Hi, my name is Sadia, I am a Receptionist here at Lanercost House. The best part of my job is interacting with Residents when they are on the way to the dining room, and greeting visitors when they come through the door. I love caring for people and providing them with the best care possible.

Duncan Fordyce

Job Title: Activities Co-Ordinator

Hi, I’m Duncan, I work as part of the Activities Team here at Lanercost House.


I joined Lanercost in 2023 after taking early retirement from my career in banking as a financial advisor. I did take a few holidays in between, but the drive to want to work and make a difference brought me back to employment and I now enjoy working three days a week, doing something I love. Putting a smile on the faces of the Residents and enriching their lives through meaningful activities and interactions is the most rewarding feeling.


I am kept busy outside of work looking after my young grandson, and leisurely I enjoy good food and am an avid Newcastle United supporter!

Hello, I’m Tara, I am a Care Assistant in our Carlyle Suite at Lanercost House.


I bring many years of care experience to my role, and although I have tried my hand at other professions, including teaching and support work, I always seem to find myself drawn back to care, it is so rewarding. So much so that I am currently working towards my degree in Health and Social Care, Management and Leadership. I want to provide the best possible care to Residents and their families.


Outside of work, I enjoy the outdoors, nature and with my family.

Hi, I’m Emily, I work as a Senior Carer in our wonderful Carlyle Suite Community.


I joined Lanercost in 2020 as a Care Assistant, before being promoted to Senior Carer in 2022. I am told this was due to my star qualities!


The best part of my job is engaging with our Residents and their family members, they really are part of our Lanercost family.


Outside of work I enjoy fell walking, spending time at the gym and socialising with friends.

Job Title: Kitchen Assistant

Hello, I'm Diane and I am a Kitchen Assistant here at Lanercost House.


I joined Lanercost in January 2022, I love my job and want to do my best for the Residents every day, I particularly enjoy interacting with them and enriching their lives through companionship.


In my spare time, I volunteer at school and community clubs, as well as keeping busy looking after my Niece and, when time allows in my busy schedule I also enjoy whipping up a storm in the kitchen.

Hi, my name is Andy and I’m a Chef here at Lanercost House. I started my chef career in 2008 and have since worked in a variety of restaurants, hotels and cafes. I joined Lanercost House in February 2024 and I’m enjoying being part of the hospitality team creating a variety of dishes for the Residents to enjoy.


The home is homely and welcoming, please come and visit us. We make delicious cakes for all our visitors to enjoy!
