I felt it necessary to write another review relating to current times. Appleby Grange has protected and kept our family safe within the home for months now and with all the extra hard work they are doing in this pandemic. I think it is wonderful. They are face-timing us weekly so we are able to keep
in touch with our loved ones. They deserve a medal.

I am delighted with the overall care that the staff at Appleby Grange have shown my mother. All the staff show compassion and kindness to mam and as a family we have peace of mind that she is safe and well cared for. There is one concern which we feel is of urgent attention and that is the extremely
outdated and intrusive resident's personal care alarm. The shrill ear-piercing noise is completely unacceptable and should be changed to a much more modern system ie nurse/carer pagers.

My mother has been resident for almost four years and has significant needs. I cannot praise all of the staff highly enough for the level of care, friendliness and the dignified way in which they treat the residents. It is a safe and secure place with a very nice atmosphere.

My Grandad stayed here for respite care in December, he loved it and was sad to leave. Every time I visited, the staff were wonderful and friendly. I was always offered refreshments and looked after very well. The care they showed my Grandad was second to none and I will highly recommend Appleby Grange.

Location in home town is always very important for the family, not all may drive and bus services are poor. With local employment most people who work here know your family which helps you know the person is in good hands with the carers at the Grange. The carers are all good and go that extra to help
when possible. Just like a big family that works together. Thank you to all, I know at times it's not easy. Well done all.

When you walk into Appleby Grange it is always very clean and tidy. All the staff are very welcoming and inform you if anything is wrong with my mother. If I visit at a mealtime, always asked if I or we would like a cup of tea or whatever. The activities are also very good too. She is always very well
cared for.

From the lovely greeting when my friend first arrived she was made to feel welcome and valued.

One of her regular day carers suggested that she go to the Grange every so often as she had come back so much more lively and cheerful!
She had been given a welcome pack with all sorts of goodies in it

but she didn’t eat it as she is careful about her diet. So the next time she stayed the staff had remembered this and given her a basket of fruit instead. How kind is that!
My friend's accommodation was in a flat. She only had to press a cord and staff came to her - not that this happened very often as staff were so attentive anyway. The flat is well appointed, tastefully decorated and very well suited for wheelchair users.
The staff provided lots of activities and were considerate enough to put a TV in her bedroom.
She had good wholesome and tasty meals.
A highlight had to be the amazing bath.

Many thanks to the manager and her well-trained team of staff.

Thank you so much for the wonderful review. I am really pleased that the stay with us here at Appleby Grange was so enjoyable for her.
We are passionate about the individual person centred services we provide here and it is so rewarding to receive such positive feedback which I will absolutely share with my staff as they are all dedicated and committed to each and every one of our residents.
We look forward to the next respite visit booked in the near future.
Kindest Regards

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.587)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.587) out of 10 for Appleby Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.687 for Appleby Grange is calculated as follows: ( (71 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 99 Ratings = 4.687

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Appleby Grange is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
