Summerhill Care Home, situated in the charming Cumbrian town of Kendal, supports older people to lead their best lives with personalised residential, nursing and dementia care.

I am satisfied that my wife is receiving the care she requires. The staff at the home are friendly and attentive to my wife's needs. There is a varied range of activities available and meals provided offer a very good selection of choice.

Mum has been in Summerhill for 3 years. She is always clean, well fed and has great care from the patient carers. She has challenging behaviour but they are well trained to cope with her sat in her room. I can hear what is happening outside her room and have never heard any raised voices or any resident
be spoken about in an unprofessional manner. We are very lucky to have mum in Summerhill and I have experience of 37 years in healthcare.

Th staff are all very caring, empathic, understanding and supportive and they treat residents with dignity at all times. All needs are met that are humanly possible. Food is nutritious and varied, staff have time for you when visiting, if they are unsure of something they will go and check, they will
ring if there is ever a problem. Totally impressed.

All the nursing staff are lovely with us as visitors and my step-dad as the patient/resident. He is now in a lovely well lit, bright room, but one of his first rooms was very dark and didn't get much natural sunlight.
Neither myself or my mum (resident's wife) were given an introductory tour, which
would have been useful.

The care provided to my dad was very good. He died in Summerhill and I am confident that the care he received throughout his time in the home and in the last weeks and days when he was frail and ill was of a very high standard.

Generally, I am very happy with my wife's care.
There are a few problems from time to time, usually when the unit is not fully staffed and other residents who are difficult occasionally interrupt overall care. This is understandable.

Mum has improved so much since moving into Summerhill Care Home (I felt that she was being neglected at her last residential home). Her doctor phoned me to tell me what a good move it had been, and that she looks 10 years younger! Staff are friendly, kind, cheerful and respectful. There is a lovely,
welcoming atmosphere.

The staff are friendly and caring. They know my aunt well. She is well fed, clean and in appropriate clothing.
Bedrooms are lovely and en-suite facilities are great.
There is an upbeat atmosphere to the suite (Windermere) and staff are professional and courteous at all times.
She is happy there.

My mum had pre-senile frontotemporal dementia and passed away in October 2016. She was in Summerhill Care Home, Kendal, Cumbria from June 2012. My family and I would just like to let you know how brilliant they were. The quality of the care, support to us as a family during a tough time was amazing.
The great nature of staff and effort they put into looking after mum will be in our minds forever. We will always be grateful.

My mother was ill in hospital in Lancaster and she realised that she could not cope at home in her flat anymore and would like to go into a care home. My mother said that she particularly wanted to go to the Summerhill. There was not a place for her straight away so she went to the care home in another
place. Luckily a place did come up very soon and she was very happy to move to Summerhill.

I take part in the activities so my friend will join in. I also enjoy them and have learnt a lot as well. The ladies Circle, which has just started is a good idea, it gets the ladies to chat together and make friends. The music exercise goes down very well and it gets everyone singing as well.

Since I arrived nearly 8 years ago the activities 'group' have been dire. Yesterday I asked one of the staff on the activities team how much money had been made for a charity 'do', the reply was "It will be about £40". I queried this, she couldn't give the full amount.
The same person wrote the minutes
for a residents meeting. She finally got them corrected on the second time. However, she did not record that a patient wanted it to be recorded that the laundry was efficient etc, this was not recorded the second time.
To my mind this is arrogant behaviour and unacceptable?!
Excellent "shopping" arrangements. Security has been a problem that has been sorted.

My father has only been at Summerhill Care Home for a week so far for respite nursing care. It is a lovely place, very clean and welcoming, all the staff are excellent and provide a top class service, well presented ad caring.

My father spent the last 20 months of his life at Summerhill. I have nothing but praise for the care he received. The staff at Buttermere Suite were wonderful. They were his friends, they were skilled and competent carers and nurses, and they cared deeply about him. He was always treated kindly and
with a lot of affection. He loved chatting to them and having a laugh. He died in his room at Summerhill, which was wonderful, and I was with him. I felt tremendously well supported - even when I was told quite clearly that I needed a rest and must go home for a few hours! I was treated always as if I was part of their team, and between us we made him comfortable and happy in his last days. Summerhill may be outclassed by newer, grander homes with larger and more lavish rooms, but what really matters is the quality of the care, and in my experience it's second to none.
