Westmorland Court Nursing Home is set in the village of Arnside, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The home is set in its own grounds and has lovely garden areas where clients can sit and enjoy the peace and quiet whilst watching the wildlife.

It can accommodate up to 48 people, mainly single rooms with 2 double rooms, ideal for couples. Some rooms have ensuite facilities. There are two lounges available, one larger one where the majority of the activities taking place and a smaller lounge for those who prefer a quieter atmosphere.

The Activities Coordinator offers a variety of activities including arts & crafts, singing, board games, cookery, gardening, armchair exercises, reminiscing, manicures and one to one time for those clients who prefer not to be involved in group activities.

Those clients who are nursed in bed or prefer to stay in their rooms are also visited by the Activities Coordinator. All meals are freshly prepared on the premises and there is always a choice of meals available. The home caters for those with special dietary requirements.

The home offers respite and long term stays and specialises in End of Life care. The home is staffed by suitably qualified compassionate and caring individuals whose aim in life is to make a difference to the lives of those they are looking after. Staff Nurses are on duty 24/7 in the Home. Dignity and Respect are two of the most important aspects of the Home.

The team at Westmorland Court appreciate that moving a loved one into a Nursing Home can be an emotional and difficult decision. The aim of the team is to support not only the client but also their wider circle of family and friends.

Visitors to the home are welcome at any time however protected mealtimes are in place 12.15 - 1.15 and 4.30-5.30.

I cannot fault the care and support my grandmother has had since coming to the home. They have provided exceptional care and helped the healing process for a long term problem. They listen to her and show genuine empathy which helped her settle in really quickly.

My Mum has been here nearly 11 months now and I had to update my review from my previous one to say how amazing this place is and I say that as the Management (plus a new assistant manager who's doing an amazing job along with the most caring, very hard working!! Manager) and the wonderful nurses,carers,
cleaners, activity staff are the most caring people I have met. I know I can't name names but I include everyone that works there. They treat everyone with such dignity and truly show they care. I've looked at a lot of care/nursing homes over the years and I have to say not seen staff like this plus there is not a big turnover of staff, most have been there a long time so residents can get to know them and a familiar smiling face. They listen to any questions I may have and make sure if I have any concerns etc, it is acted on straight away. Nowhere is perfect but this comes as close as it can. Thank you for looking after my amazing Mum so well. It gives me great comfort.

My Dad was admitted to this marvellous care home last June and has had outstanding care since he arrived. The staff are always about to help and nothing is too much trouble. They are so understanding and patient with my Dad, I feel he is safe and well cared for.
The home has a friendly 'home from home'
feel to it and they're always happy to have visitors.

My father was taken into a care home recently, and the transition was very good. From the moment we arrived, the whole family were made to feel welcome. The manager and staff treated my father with care and compassion and made him feel at ease. Nothing is too much trouble and has a lovely, homely and
friendly atmosphere, not clinical, which has helped him to settle in well. Any problems are quickly dealt with. Entertainment is also very good, keeping residents stimulated.

My mother-in-law has recently had 2 weeks of respite care at this very friendly well-run care home.
Everyone is so professional and really friendly and made her feel relaxed and well cared for.
The home is so clean and well run and everyone and l mean everyone goes the extra step.

My wife has been here for four months. The staff are gentle and caring and there are always several carers present to look after the residents. My wife had problems with hygiene and infections when at home, these have all been corrected. The staff put a lot of effort into keeping the residents entertained
for example Halloween, Remembrance Day and birthdays. My wife seems happy and enjoys the company.

Mum moved to Westmorland Court in July. It was not possible for her to stay at home due to her rapidly deteriorating mental and physical health. The move to Westmorland Court happened quickly with the assistance of social services, as it was apparent that Mum was at risk and needed professional care
and support. The manager was fantastic and helped us navigate the process of which we previously knew nothing about.
A family member or friends visit almost every day and Mum’s health has improved more than any of us thought possible. She tells us that she likes all the staff, other residents, and the food. We are now able to take Mum out for cake and coffee, which we feared we would never do again. She loves going out with family but happy to get back to Westmorland Court where she is met by the lovely and caring staff.
As a family, we often discuss just how fortunate we are to have found a place where she is so happy, safe, and thriving.

My wife has recently become a resident of Westmorland Court Care Home. Already she has settled in well and is thriving in the new community. We have lived in the village of Arnside for many years and have brought up our three sons here. Our intention was to see our days out here in the village and thanks
to a vacancy at Westmorland Court it now looks as though our wishes can be realised.
Myself and the family visit daily and we are constantly impressed by the high quality of the staff team led by the highly able manager. Nothing is too much trouble and the team are only too happy to go the extra mile.
My wife's room is bright and airy and the communal areas are frequently a buzz of activity. Sitting outside in the peaceful grounds is a particular pleasure to us all.
We are so lucky to have found a place for my wife in Westmorland Court. We can wholeheartedly recommend it.

My dad has been in residence since April and has settled in well. The manager is excellent and always smiling. All of the team, who I believe do 12-hour shifts, are polite, caring and attentive to the residents.
Many residents have dementia which I know is time-consuming and frankly can be draining.
I speak from experience as my mother had it for many years. They still are treated with the respect they deserve. I visit two or three times a week at various times and always see the same level of care.
Many of the staff are originally from India, Asia Pakistan and the Philippines and I truly believe their culture instils how to respect and look after the elderly.
Visitors are looked after with a friendly smile and a brew, sometimes a biscuit!
My dad loves chatting to everyone that passes his room and they always pop in to say hello even though they're busy. They keep me updated with matters day or night if Dad is unwell.
I recommend Westmorland Court Nursing Home, pop in for a visit.

I am currently staying at this home. I am a physically disabled lady age 60 and a full-time wheelchair user. I find the place clean, well-run and well-equipped. Although primarily a care facility for dementia sufferers there are plenty of places for me to sit and enjoy the facilities away from others
if I want to or sit in the gardens. I am also able to go out during the day and enjoy Arnside. I find the staff helpful kind and caring people. I can also administer my own medication as that is what I do at home. I am glad the staff are able to care for me in a way that enables rather than enforces disability and so respects the people they care for. So I recommend this facility. They even have a jacuzzi bubble bath which I have enjoyed.

My Husband who has Alzheimer's Dementia and other complications entered Westmorland Court Nursing and Care Home in March 2023.
He has had excellent Care. The lovely Staff are Kind, Considerate and very Patient and very understanding about this horrible Disease that robs you of the person you Love.
The
food is Very Good and plenty of Drinks. The Lounge has a big TV and the residents are entertained with quizzes, and a lady comes in to get them Singing and Dancing if they want to.
The home is Clean and well kept and my Husband is getting the Care he deserves.
The Management is always on hand to speak to and discuss things with.
I cannot fault Westmorland Court and I am positive I did the right thing for my Husband.

Having visited my good friend, who is a resident in Westmorland Court Nursing Home most weekends over the last six months or so, I am starting to build up a comprehensive overview of the services provided by the care home. To give an example of the person-centred approach to caring which has been adopted;
I was contacted by the home and asked if I would like to attend a Christmas dinner with some of the residents in the weeks running up to the Christmas holidays. I accepted and duly turned up at the appointed time. I was greeted by several staff who were very welcoming and all dressed in festive attire and was escorted to the first-floor dining room. The room was full of residents and their guests in Christmas outfits and sporting party hats. The tables were all beautifully decorated and there was a happy ambience. I was shown to a separate table with my friend who was delighted by the event and to see me. We had our party crackers and a full 3-course Christmas lunch which was enjoyed by all. It was noticeable that the Care Home Manager joined us for lunch and clearly knew all the residents individually as she moved from table to table after the meal. The meal was followed by festive bingo where the care team fully engaged and encouraged the residents to take part helping individuals who were less able. The whole event reminded me of Christmas dinner at home with my grandparents rather than a care home setting. Well done to everyone.

It's not easy watching someone you know so well develop issues that leave them unable to cope for themselves. At such a time you want them to be given the best care possible and for them to be comfortable receiving it.
Within a few months, the sight of a happier and healthier person gives us faith
that we are witnessing the transformation we all hoped for. There is still work to be done, but Westmorland Court Nursing Home are consistently providing the specific care required to give us the confidence that this could be achieved.
I have spoken to members of staff at all levels within the home. They demonstrate a professional level of competence and integrity that gives us much needed reassurance and peace of mind.

My father has been in this home for a number of months now and has settled in very well. Whilst he may not understand much of what is going on, he is happy and believes this is his home. My mum moved into Westmorland Court in November 2021 and is in a comfortable room and well look after by all the care and nursing staff.
It has been a big step for my mum to go into a supported full-time care environment, but every time I see her, she seems happy and content and a reflection of the
care she receives.
As I live locally I am able to visit regularly and have the bonus of being able to bring her out of the home for trips out and a change of scenery.
The staff provide excellent communication whenever I contact them and extremely accomodating for visits and days out.

My mum has been a resident for nine years (in April). She is very well cared for and is happy and content there. She has dementia and does not recognise me or my brother. Unfortunately, I have not seen Mum since August 2021 so have not visited the home for six months. I have now moved 185 miles away
so have to book visits well in advance. Unfortunately, the snow stopped the November visit and Covid my last two planned visits. I am hoping to visit in April when mum is 90.
The staff are always friendly and very caring. They know Mum well and how to handle her. My brother lives closer so visits when he can. He has no complaints. Occasionally I have been sent a WhatsApp video by the staff and these are much appreciated. My only criticism is the lack of communication. I would love a monthly report or video but understand that the last two years have been very difficult and challenging. I think the home has dealt with the Covid outbreak incredibly well. I admire the staff.
