Located in the attractive town of Barnard Castle in County Durham, Beaconsfield Court is a purpose built care home offering residential and residential dementia care.

The extensively trained team will deliver all the specialist care and support services that loved ones require.

Personalised care plans consider not only medical, personal and dietary needs, but also the individual’s likes and dislikes, religious preferences, and any suggestions from family members that might make the resident's stay with the home that little bit more enjoyable.

Assisted by suggestions from the residents, the home’s wellbeing coordinators organise a varied year-round programme of things to do.

As a family, we are extremely grateful for the love and care shown to a much-loved husband, dad and grandad and support for us. The manager and staff are fantastic (it's the little things that count). We must also thank the activity manager for everything that is continuing to be done. You make such
a difference. Although there are communication difficulties, we know that our relative is very happy.

Since my Dad has been staying in the Beaconsfield I have only praise for every aspect of his care. He was incredibly reluctant to go into a care home but unfortunately as his health failed it was inevitable. All the staff made this transition bearable for him. They are always cheerful, caring and very
attentive to his every need.

Found staff to be very caring and made the place seem very homely.
Lunches could be a little more seasonal, e.g. warm sweets in the winter time.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Beaconsfield Court Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to complete this review and for your valuable feedback. At HC-One we change our menus twice a year in line with the seasons and following feedback we receive from our Residents. We will continue to review the menus we offer on a regular basis to respond to our Residents' choices which will include warm desserts in winter.

When visiting my nana I am very pleased with how certain staff are with her, more now than when she first came into the home. Certain new staff involve my nana and keep her occupied with stuff she enjoys. It is lovely and settling for me to see :).

I was part of a small group who went to Beaconsfield Court to play/sing some Christmas songs for the residents (some of whom I knew).
I have played in a number of similar establishments and was very impressed with the atmosphere and the level of care and well-being that I saw during my visit.
I am
not an expert in care homes but it was good enough to make me reflect that this appears to be an outstanding example.
Congratulations to all concerned.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.425)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.425) out of 10 for Beaconsfield Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.887 for Beaconsfield Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (63 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.887

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.538 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Beaconsfield Court Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.4 = 0.938

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
