Bowburn Care Home, formally Morgan House in the former Northumbrian mining village of Bowburn, is a new purpose-built care home for older people.

There are easy road links to nearby Durham city centre.

The care home, which specialises in residential and dementia care, has four units named after the coal seams well known in the village – Hutton, Brockwell, Low Main and Henderson.

Each 17-bedded unit has its own lounges, dining rooms and fully-equipped bathrooms with the latest facilities to ensure the health and safety of residents with limited mobility. Each bedroom has en-suite washing facilities.

Regular activities encourage residents to pursue new hobbies and maintain familiar past-times such as art and crafts, flower arranging and games. There are also visits from entertainers.

My father has just returned home from a 12 day stay at Bowburn Care Centre. Pleasant and friendly staff who treated my father like one of their own. Spotlessly clean and lovely food according to my father. Looked fit and healthy on his return and wouldn’t hesitate for him to return for respite care.

We are very pleased with the care given to my mother. She is well looked after, both physically and emotionally. The staff are friendly and approachable with the manager having an open-door policy and being available to chat to or voice concerns to. Everyone tries to make life as comfortable as possible
for my mother.
One slight concern is the smell in her corridor but the staff are aware and try their best to combat this.

Can’t believe how well Dad has settled and is a different person. The staff are so nice and caring towards everybody they go out of their way to speak. Could not be happier with the home. The management team are approachable and very supportive will help with anything as well as all staff in the home.
Would recommend this home to anybody.

The staff, carers are excellent, very kind and friendly and couldn't ask for better. They really care about the residents and their families and it is a very clean environment. I know my mother is okay at Bowburn Care Centre and I am happy with this.

My mother has been in your care since January 2023. I can honestly ask for no better care. From walking through the door to be met by a smiling receptionist, to the manager who has shown nothing but kindness, to the wonderful carers who have shown my mother nothing but compassion. The home is spotlessly
clean and the food smells delicious! I would highly recommend Bowburn Care Home.

My wife has been a resident at this care home for just over two months. I believe she is content to be here. I know from my observations on a near daily visit to see her that the staff are kind, supportive and sympathetic to her needs. There is a happy atmosphere on her unit and my wife continually
praises the standard of meals and other food prepared for her. Although I miss her being at home with me, I am confident that she is loved and cared for by a competent team of carers. Management is open and accessible.

The management and staff have all been very welcoming and supportive during the time of our service user’s residency. Nothing was ever any trouble and we were kept well informed of the service user's needs.
The daily activities introduced brought life back into the residents and made a significant

I can not fault the care my mum received while at Bowburn Care Centre. Though only for a short while they were very understanding of my mum's needs. Thank you.
The manager and staff went above and beyond. Mum had suffered a lot from anxiety and OCD which was treated with compassion and care. Again,
many thanks for making her last few weeks as comfortable as possible.

I cannot praise highly enough the care my mam received from the staff at Bowburn Care Centre. They were caring and loving, more like a family than carers. It made Mam's passing easier for us to bear knowing she was looked after so well. They are a credit to their profession.

All the staff were kind and thoughtful and my husband was treated well. His needs were met very well. He was, however, very poorly and in the first week seemed to be getting a little better, however, he deteriorated and was unable to recover.

I felt I needed to say that we are very happy with the quality of care that my mother in law in receiving. She has been in Bowburn Care home for four years following a couple of stays in other homes. We can honestly say that she is well cared for. Today is Christmas Day and we have seen the genuine
caring relationships between staff and residents. My mother in law is happy to be there, she is always clean, tidy and definitely well fed! Thank you for all that you do for our loved one.

After some awful experiences with Dad's care a few years ago, we searched pretty carefully, when Mam needed 24-hour care. We chose Bowburn and have not been disappointed. Mam is comfortable and settled, after her initial reluctance. She has mixed dementia and had become isolated and immobile at home.
She is much better at Bowburn and recently said she didn't want to go home.
The home is clean, comfortable and attractive. The staff are friendly and capable. This home went under new management after a problematic couple of years and the new manager has managed to achieve a Good CQC rating in their September inspection. Mam pays her own fees and we find Bowburn offers very good value, compared with other local care providers. Better funding from government and more staff, could make this and outstanding facility.

My father has been a resident of Bowburn Care Centre for respite care. From the initial home visit from the manager to my dad entering the home, everyone has been warm, welcoming and friendly and we were made to feel like part of a big family. The care home is spotlessly clean and has a lovely friendly
atmosphere. All the staff treated my dad with dignity and the utmost respect and he thought they were all wonderful. I cannot praise Bowburn Care Centre highly enough.

My father was going through end of life care and on Sunday 21st March I was sitting with him overnight, throughout the night the senior care assistant and her other carer came into the room to check on dad and when the end came they were first class in their care for him and for my mother who came down
from her room to be with dad and the courtesy and kindness shown to all of the family was superb.

The care home is always clean and kept well. The residents are always clean, clothes are kept clean and they try to ensure that residents remain in their own clothes. The care home has a lovely atmosphere and staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome when you’re visiting your relatives. The
care given to my relative in the care home, is of a high standard. My relative is very happy in this care home. The manager is approachable and if any problems occur, it is sorted immediately. Over the last two years, activities have been limited due to the coronavirus pandemic, however, when possible they have been able to bring in singers, which the residents have loved. They have tried to maintain bingo with the residents and exercise classes. The care home has now introduced resident meetings, to resolve any problems straight away and how best to facilitate individual needs.

My mother went into Bowburn in 2017 December. She has full-blown Alzheimers. She didn't know any of us. My dad went every day to visit her and stay for his dinner. He was made most welcome. The staff were brilliant. We found mam very well looked after, and dad for that matter. Mam died in hospital in
October. We cannot thank the staff of Bowburn enough for taking such good care of her especially through lockdown when we could not visit.
