Big thanks to the lovely home for taking care of and continued care of my 93-year-old mother. The manager and staff are more than helpful at any time and open to any questions we may have. A big thanks for the care and assistance given to our mother in her later days of life. We know that as she gets
older and more confused and sometimes a little difficult in her confusion, the care given is thoughtful and kind. Thanks again.

I was in a crisis bed at st Mary's Nursing Home, having just left the hospital after a long admission. I must admit, initially, I cried all the way in the ambulance from my home to St Mary's, not knowing what to expect. I was taken to my room by the paramedics, who were soon followed by the matron,
who was still making adjustments to the room. The matron introduced herself and told me about the home and its staff, and the home and how to call staff etc. She left, promising me a few things, like a TV, which arrived soon.
What I would say about the home is that they were never two days alike. I loved my room, door open, because although they were a lot of language barriers, a nod and a smile when passing go a long way. Whilst there, I was poorly, and I spent 36 hours in the hospital. A week or so later, I was very poorly with a high temp, and having all staff ragged, I wouldn't go in the ambulance. The night nurse was amazing, I know I refused hosp treatment. I'm sorry night nurse and staff. I felt safer with you.

We would really have liked to personally name the staff in which part of this review was directed to. They showed true commitment and compassion to both our elderly grandmother with dementia who is not able to communicate very well (and the family whilst visiting) who has been in the care home for over
eight years and relies on these staff 24/7. She was diagnosed end of life last week and as sad as these occasions, all of the nursing staff on shift including the nurse regularly checked on Nanna, ensuring she was comfortable, holding her hand, trying to talk to her, attending to her needs and also offering refreshments and support to the family. When after hours of sitting not wanting to leave her side, the staff suggested we get rest and as they would not leave her on her own, so someone was with her which was a huge comfort to us. We couldn't thank them enough.

Thank you so much for your kind words which we will pass onto the staff. The care team do try to ensure that everyone, especially those at end of life, are cared for with dignity and compassion. This is also extended to family and friends of each resident. Thank you once again for your review.

My grandmother was recently here for end of life care and the dignity and respect she was shown was fantastic. All the staff members go above and beyond and they made one of the most difficult situations more manageable with their high level of care and consideration, not just for my grandma but for
other family members that were there throughout the night. I am so glad that we chose this care home at this difficult time and would highly recommend it.

I can’t recommend this nursing home enough, recently had grandmother admitted for intermediate care and she was treated so well, with dignity and respect. Her husband who was a resident at another home with dementia was in a hospital at the same time but became more in need of nursing care and as such
couldn’t return to the home he was living at. The manager of St. Mary’s even offered to call the hospital to see if she could help in any way. We were so happy when St. Mary’s said they could accommodate his needs and the difference in my grandad is fantastic since being there. He’s happy and smiling and chatty again and it’s all down to the staff and atmosphere at St. Mary's. He’s constantly checked on and changed consistently. Our minds are at rest as we know he is receiving, in my opinion, the highest standard of care. Thank you for everything you have done for us all. There is nothing we can fault with this nursing home.

My Mother had been a resident at St Mary's Nursing Home for over 2 and a half years.
Over this length of time, she has been taken care of in the best manner anyone could wish for, for their relative.
The staff here are excellent and take a pride in their roles. Each member of the team worked together
to provide the utmost care and support to my Mother and to us as a family. I cannot thank them enough as this was a difficult time for both my Mother and our family. I always felt that the care that they gave her and the affection that they gave my Mother in the last years of her life could not be questioned.

I have struggled to find any positives to write about, I know care is a tiring and low paid 'calling', I also accept that with a high number of residents, things can get overlooked, but this should never include the residents and their safety.
My father had a faulty fire door, which was to be rectified,
this never happened, this is surely a serious breach, alongside reducing my father's privacy as the door was constantly wedged back.
After a week enough was enough, my dissatisfaction was further compounded by alleging my father had been showered more than he actually had, or that he refused.
I cannot convey the magnitude of my absolute dismay at this service here.

Reply from Diane, Home Manager at St Mary's Nursing Home

Thank you for your feedback and please be assured that we will address each of the issues raised by you.
We are sorry that you felt that your father did not have a positive experience, however, we feel that he enjoyed his time with us and believe this was evident by him making his own choices, interacting with our other residents and joining in our activity programme.

We do take feedback very seriously and you can be assured that those issues raised by you, will be discussed with all of our teams.

This is a lovely friendly place. Always welcoming when you enter the home. Residents rooms are made as much like home as is possible. Staff always take the time to stop and talk to you. Staff are brilliant with the residents, always popping their heads into residents rooms to make sure they are alright
and to make sure they are not in need of anything. Very happy and friendly place to be!

Current Review Score: 7.7 (7.729)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.7 (7.729) out of 10 for St Mary's Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.636 for St Mary's Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (7 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 11 Ratings = 4.636

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.093 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Mary's Nursing Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.8 = 0.093

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
