Welcome to Willowdene.

Located between Sedgefield and Fishburn in County Durham on Lizard Lane, just off Salter’s Lane, Willowdene Care Home is nestled in charming rural countryside.

The home is a two-storey, purpose-built building which specialises in general nursing, residential and EMI residential care. The Maples houses EMI residential residents and has a secure garden at the front of the home for residents to enjoy. Sycamore houses residential clients who have access to garden’s in the back of the home and the Elms is the nursing unit located on the second floor.

The home has a dining room and lounge in each unit along with a cosy coffee shop supplying complimentary refreshments for residents and guests and a conservatory. All bedrooms are provided fully furnished with communal shower rooms and bath amenities.

They have a full-time activities coordinator who provides a stimulating programme of creative and fun activities, entertainment, events and outings for residents to choose from, which also includes one-to-one sessions, weekly choir and chair exercises to name but a few.

They have a 4-star award in Food Hygiene awarded in February 2020 and believe food is a huge aspect of care and residents enjoy a cooked breakfast, choice of lunch and dinner meals, supper and hospitality trolley with drinks and cakes throughout the day.

The home has a small car park located at the front of the building for visitors and the nearest bus station is in Sedgefield Town.

The home's manager was awarded a prestigious 'dementia champion award' in 2017 for her work in promoting best practice and developing innovative services for people living with dementia at the home. This included introducing regular 'dementia friends' talks, increasing staff training on dementia awareness, and adding and adapting features to make the home environment more dementia-friendly.

I am very pleased with the way the staff and management have dealt with my father and others during this strange COVID time. I have always been able to call and find out how Dad's doing the staff have been very helpful throughout. My dad is hard to please and set in his ways, but they still manage him
and his mood swings. I think they all have done extremely well at this time.

Beautiful grounds and a homely feel.
I could not have found a better place for my dad to live out the rest of his life or better people to care for him. The team here are truly amazing; passionate about what they do and so empathetic and kind.
We owe Willowdene a great debt for all their help, hard
work and compassion.
I'd give them more than just 5 stars if I could.

I can fault nothing in this care/nursing home.
I have been in 3 now and this outshines the other 2 by far. The staff are professional, welcoming and caring.
The food, no word of a lie, is better than even a top hotel in London. The rooms are well laid out and thoroughly cleaned at all times.
Nothing
is too much trouble for all the staff ie management, nurses, carers, laundry, maintenance and cleaners etc.

Have visited this care home on a number of occasions over the years and would just like to say what a lovely, friendly, warm welcome I always get every time.
The staff, especially the activities coordinator have the highest level of professionalism.
They can't do enough for the residents, looking
after them as a communal group and attending to their individual needs.

I believe my mother received the best care possible during her 8-year stay in Willowdene. The staff were very efficient and attentive to her even though she wasn't always the easiest person to please. We always found it to a very high standard regarding cleanliness etc.

I asked Willowdene to accept my friend for end of life care because I remembered the care given to another friend in 2017.
The staff at Willowdene Care Home were amazing. They cared for my friend with kindness. They gave her dignity and made her last days as comfortable as they could. They also gave
me support and friendship. I will always remember them and thank them so much for all they did for my friend.

My mother really enjoyed staying in for respite, everyone was so polite when I visited and could not do enough for us.
The home was so clean and always busy but nothing was a problem.

Hi, my name is Ruth and I am the Care Home Manager at Willowdene Care Home. I am pleased to manage this beautiful home. I qualified as a nurse in 1995 (RNLD) and worked for 17 years in the Mental Health and Learning Disabilities sector. I have 20 years of experience in management, 12 of those in Older Peoples Services. I take an open and transparent approach towards the care home,
