Welcome to Willowdene.

Located between Sedgefield and Fishburn in County Durham on Lizard Lane, just off Salter’s Lane, Willowdene Care Home is nestled in charming rural countryside.

The home is a two-storey, purpose-built building which specialises in general nursing, residential and EMI residential care. The Maples houses EMI residential residents and has a secure garden at the front of the home for residents to enjoy. Sycamore houses residential clients who have access to garden’s in the back of the home and the Elms is the nursing unit located on the second floor.

The home has a dining room and lounge in each unit along with a cosy coffee shop supplying complimentary refreshments for residents and guests and a conservatory. All bedrooms are provided fully furnished with communal shower rooms and bath amenities.

They have a full-time activities coordinator who provides a stimulating programme of creative and fun activities, entertainment, events and outings for residents to choose from, which also includes one-to-one sessions, weekly choir and chair exercises to name but a few.

They have a 4-star award in Food Hygiene awarded in February 2020 and believe food is a huge aspect of care and residents enjoy a cooked breakfast, choice of lunch and dinner meals, supper and hospitality trolley with drinks and cakes throughout the day.

The home has a small car park located at the front of the building for visitors and the nearest bus station is in Sedgefield Town.

The home's manager was awarded a prestigious 'dementia champion award' in 2017 for her work in promoting best practice and developing innovative services for people living with dementia at the home. This included introducing regular 'dementia friends' talks, increasing staff training on dementia awareness, and adding and adapting features to make the home environment more dementia-friendly.

During dad's stay at this home, I have utmost respect and confidence that the care he has received since being in here has been of the highest standards. The staff are fantastic and are so helpful in trying to keep dad comfortable. Nothing seems to be an issue with any of your staff. I feel so confident
in the ability of the care he gets. The levels of cleanliness, food and hygiene and care are 100% better than the last care home he was at within this county. The nurses seem to care so much for the patients' well-being at all times. Keep up the quality work.

My mother passed away peacefully in February 2018. She had been a resident of Willowdene Care Home for the past 18 months and received first class care with her personal care and everything she needed from carers, cleaning staff, kitchen staff. Everyone is so friendly. It's like another family and I
cannot praise them enough.

My mother will be 103 of age in 7 days time. In December - January she was really poorly with bacterial tonsillitis. As you can imagine at that age of 102 we were worried. The staff quickly got a doctor and got her on straight on antibiotics. I came in daily for a few days at lunchtime to feed her as
her appetite was non-existent and because of the flu virus, the staff were having to come in when they were still not well. The staff were good and supported us at this time.

Mam has been a resident at Willowdene the past 18 months. The environment is exceptionally clean, warm and has a happy environment with an excellent program of activities to motivate and stimulate the residents.
The staff are always respectful, courteous and happy. They treat mam with respect, care
and maintain her dignity. Mam is always clean and tidy her clothes are kept spotlessly clean. The food is freshly cooked and mam is well fed. I rate the home highly and have recommended to family and friends.

Staff handle residents very well and with care and are always attending to their specific needs. Staff know individual residents needs/behaviour and address accordingly.


Residents are kept clean and dietary needs catered for.


My mother (95-year-old) is well looked after, even when she can be difficult

to deal with. Since taking up residency, she has settled in very well, a reflection of the care she receives.

First impressions were home was clean and smelt fresh. The room was nice and light. I can't really comment on the food as dad stopped eating however, staff tried hard to accommodate his dietary needs. Dad was kept clean and comfortable the short time he was there, regular checks. Most important all
the staff were excellent and always seemed to go that extra mile. The continuity of care as superb. Again the staff really seemed to have compassion and caring.

My gran has now lived at Willowdene Care Home for 2 1/2yrs and I could not fault it. My gran has put on weight with the delicious food served three times a day. The staff are lovely and always have time to stop and say hello. They do puzzles with my gran and the other residents and often organise special
events i.e singers, summer fairs and raffles. The home itself is clean, warm and welcoming and all I can say is since becoming a resident at Willowdene Care Home she has certainly thrived.

I qualified as a nurse in 1995 (RNLD) and worked for 17 years in the Mental Health and Learning Disabilities sector. I have 20 years of experience in management, 12 of those in Older Peoples Services. I take an open and transparent approach towards the care home,
