Located in Blackhall Colliery, a former mining village on the North Sea coast of County Durham close to Peterlee and Horden, Yohden Care Complex is located on Hesleden Road between Castle Eden and Hartlepool.

Yohden Care Complex is a versatile care facility divided into three units offering specialist care. Nursing care is offered at Yohden Hall; Yohden Lodge provides dementia nursing and residential care and Yohden Court accommodates residents with learning difficulties. Respite stays and day care are also available.

The entrance for Yohden Lodge is located at the back of the building in a purpose-built extension. The Lodge has 27ensuite bedrooms including a palliative suite, sensory room, dining room, lounge and conservatory. The decor in the Lodge is dementia friendly with lots of stimulating walls and imagery.

Yohden Court is located in the main building and is a 10 bedded unit with ensuite facilities, an activities room, lounge and dining room.

Yohden Hall is also located in the main building with 36 bedrooms, reception area, extensive lounge for relaxation and activities, hair dressers, dining room and patio.

The care complex boasts a variety of features and facilities, including a hairdressing salon and an on-site bar. Residents can take advantage of extensive outdoor areas including secure gardens, a vegetable patch, and a large conservatory and patio area.

They believe food is an important aspect of the care at Yohden Care Complex and have a 5 star food hygiene rating. All cakes and baked goods are made in their onsite kitchens along with cooked breakfast, choice of lunch and dinner aswell as a hospitality trolley throughout the day.

There is ample car parking at the home for visitors and the closest bus stop from the home is located at the Hardwick Hotel on Middle Street which is a 0.5 mile stroll to the home which is visited by the 23, 24 Sapphire, 55 and 206 IndiGo bus.

A wonderful, new manager is now in place (as of July 2019) which, if she is properly supported, will allow the home to again flourish. In the previous 12 months low morale, no teamwork and mistrust appeared to be the norm. Serious questions of the senior management (remote to the home) must be asked
as they were aware of issues and appeared to try to quash concerns rather than addressing them. The excellent staff deserve a professional and responsive management input in my view. One person (however good or bad) should not have such a significant effect on a care home and senior management really need to look at themselves and the effectiveness and impartiality of their staff appraisal procedures if they are serious about making the improvements that their staff deserve

The home is well run with the staff that is provided. More staff on the floor would be an improvement. The morale of the staff has increased so much in the last couple of weeks, making the whole place happy!

My mum went into Yohden beginning of December from hospital really poorly, as a family we didn't think she would last long. Now 6 weeks later she is like a different woman. She's well again she's eating and drinking putting on weight also. Mum has Alzheimer's so a different environment is very unsettling
for her. However, she has settled in very well. The care she receives is outstanding cannot fault the whole home and staff. This is the third care home mum has been in and I only wished we had found Yohden sooner. Thank you everyone who looks after mum we all appreciate it, the staff are so caring and are worth their weight in gold.

My brother has lived in this complex for 6 years. In all of this time, he has been well cared for and treated with respect. The staff are very professional and approachable keeping me fully informed of all his activities and needs.
Staff are very quick to inform me of any difficulties or medical problems
to ensure a quick resolution. Following a recent management change, the new manager was quick to meet and introduce themselves.

Disappointed in new management, staff have moved from the main entrance, make the home unwelcome and hard to find anyone. Aware of safety on main doors but very confusing for my Granda who now does not leave his room. We often had to come in and make the bed up as it had not been done. The bathroom
has had a hole in it since he came into the home and still has never been fixed or replaced. Would like to meet new manager, as I have not seen her, or know her name, very unprofessional.

Generally speaking, the care is good. The area that my son is residing in, has quite a lot of residents who need two carers to deal with their needs including my son. Sometimes there are not enough staff on the floor to deal with these residents. If more staff were employed this would help with the
problem.

My parent has resided in Yohden Hall for 12 years or more. She reached the grand age of 100 this year. She is happy, safe and part of 'her' extended family as she calls the staff. Still fiercely independent, she is given freedom of choice in so many ways, knowing that someone is on hand when things
go a bit far for her abilities. Our new manager has brought a breath of fresh air and new ideas, without undermining the last manager, who was also excellent. Well done to all in Yohden Hall.

I have nothing but praise for this nursing home. My mam was very happy with the care she received and as her daughter, I can not thank them enough for the care, dignity and love they give to my mother. Mam always had a smile whenever the staff entered her room. They also always had time for Mams family.
The home is always clean and the decor always pristine. Mam passed away in October after 6 years at the home aged 97 years old and I know she was very happy at the time she lived there.

My mother had experience of several nursing homes in the region and, due to their reorganisations and closures, she arrived at Yohden Hall. I sincerely wish that we had discovered this nursing care facility much, much sooner. My mother spent the last year of her life here and it was a year of peace,
comfort, love and dignity. From my personal observation, the staff treat those in their care as if they were members of their own family. Care is of consistently high quality and in my opinion, this is due to the strong leadership of the nursing home manager who successfully manages, trains and motivates the staff to deliver her high standards.

My son suffered a stroke a few years ago and we got him a place at Yohden Hall. I cannot speak too highly of the care offered to my son. He is about 47 years of age and his speech and mobility are poor. The staff are warm and friendly and caring. the home is always clean and tidy and the place smells
right! My neighbour recently needed to go into a care home and I had no hesitation in recommending Yohden Hall. He was given a room and his family is really pleased with the standard of care provided.

I come into the home on a regular basis to visit my friend's grandfather. I have known him for a number of years and visited him at other homes where he was unhappy. The change in him has been fantastic since he has resided in Yohden Hall and he has been made to feel at ease during the transition by
staff, who are very friendly and listen well to his needs. My friend enjoys the dancing activities provided. I would recommend this care home to friends and family.

Hello, my name is Graham and I am the Home Manager at Yohden Hall.


My goal as Home Manager is dedicated to supporting our residents in accessing purposeful and meaningful opportunities through person-centred care and support. I have worked in the health and social care industry since I was sixteen years old and after almost 25 years plus, I still wake up each morning with a passion to make a positive difference to both the team who I work with and the residents we all have the pleasure of sharing our days supporting and engaging with.
