Located in Blackhall Colliery, a former mining village on the North Sea coast of County Durham close to Peterlee and Horden, Yohden Care Complex is located on Hesleden Road between Castle Eden and Hartlepool.

Yohden Care Complex is a versatile care facility divided into three units offering specialist care. Nursing care is offered at Yohden Hall; Yohden Lodge provides dementia nursing and residential care and Yohden Court accommodates residents with learning difficulties. Respite stays and day care are also available.

The entrance for Yohden Lodge is located at the back of the building in a purpose-built extension. The Lodge has 27ensuite bedrooms including a palliative suite, sensory room, dining room, lounge and conservatory. The decor in the Lodge is dementia friendly with lots of stimulating walls and imagery.

Yohden Court is located in the main building and is a 10 bedded unit with ensuite facilities, an activities room, lounge and dining room.

Yohden Hall is also located in the main building with 36 bedrooms, reception area, extensive lounge for relaxation and activities, hair dressers, dining room and patio.

The care complex boasts a variety of features and facilities, including a hairdressing salon and an on-site bar. Residents can take advantage of extensive outdoor areas including secure gardens, a vegetable patch, and a large conservatory and patio area.

They believe food is an important aspect of the care at Yohden Care Complex and have a 5 star food hygiene rating. All cakes and baked goods are made in their onsite kitchens along with cooked breakfast, choice of lunch and dinner aswell as a hospitality trolley throughout the day.

There is ample car parking at the home for visitors and the closest bus stop from the home is located at the Hardwick Hotel on Middle Street which is a 0.5 mile stroll to the home which is visited by the 23, 24 Sapphire, 55 and 206 IndiGo bus.

My mother-in-law lived in Yohden Hall Care Complex for over 2 years. The care and compassion from the start was second to none, our family can't praise them enough. Very caring and always professional. They made us feel welcome anytime we went. I will recommend this home to anyone.

My grandmother was cared for to the best she could have been. She enjoyed her time there and the staff were like her family. Her room was always clean and tidy. She enjoyed the meals and occasionally went on trips out. Very pleased with the care she received.

The staff and care that mam gets is overall very good and mam seems as happy as she could be! The cleanliness of the home needs to be looked at as I feel mams room has sometimes not been done. Overall, the care she gets is spot on.

I have found the staff are always helpful and caring, any questions or queries are dealt with very quickly. I do feel that the bedroom is at times messy, and could be cleaned more often.

Rooms are adequate. Staff are helpful and supportive. Meals are adequate but not good. Cleanliness is satisfactory.

My mother has ben in Yohden for almost. She is settled and seems happy. The food is lovely with plenty of choices.
Mam was poorly and severely dehydrated. The staff make sure she gets plenty of fluids and milkshakes throughout the day. As she can longer ask for a drink independently. All the staff
including cleaner are friendly and caring nothing is a bother.

Overall the experience has been very good. My husband suffers from Alzheimers and is transported via a hoist and wheelchair. He is treated with dignity. I have never heard staff members raise their voices when he is challenging. I am confident that he is safe and well looked after. Regarding activities,
my husband never took part but other strategies were put in place to occupy him.

After my husband was sectioned and then released from hospital to Yohden Lodge, he started to come back to us, and seem not to be as violent because of the changes in his medication, (tramadol was taken off the list). My husband has periods of 'vagueness' where he is very sleepy and cannot speak. This
is part of his condition - lewy bodies dementia.
In between, he seems to enjoy being in his own room. I think the noise in the lounges agitates, so I feel happier when he is in his room. I feel that my husband is in the best place for his needs, I think it his choice not to take part in activities, but I wish he would at least be able to do dominoes or something like that, which I think he is capable of.

I have found that the experience I have found is great. I could not ask for a better home for my wife to be in. I have got nothing but accommodation for the staff. My wife cannot get out of bed, but she is looked after so good. Nothing much else to say except that it is a great home.

My goal as Home Manager is dedicated to supporting our residents in accessing purposeful and meaningful opportunities through person-centred care and support. I have worked in the health and social care industry since I was sixteen years old and after almost 25 years plus, I still wake up each morning with a passion to make a positive difference to both the team who I work with and the residents we all have the pleasure of sharing our days supporting and engaging with.
