My mam moved into Acomb Court last month and has settled in very well. The staff are very friendly and genuinely seem to care about the residents.
The management team are very approachable but remains professional.
The home always appears clean and tidy.

The initial impact, after three weeks, is that Acomb Court is an excellent, welcoming environment. The staff are very helpful, especially after mixed impressions of the other care homes. However, my wife, the resident is still not totally in her situation, regardless of the homes efforts. I suppose
this reflects her mould attitude. Hence, my reduction of excellent to good in many ratings below.

Lovely care home, everyone from the manager to housekeeping is very caring and helpful. My mother has been here for three months and is very happy and settled. She enjoys the food and the company.

The minute you walk in the door it feels warm and welcoming. The staff are lovely and treat Mum with care and dignity. Mum loves the food which is always a good thing as she can be fussy, we can rest knowing Mum is well cared for and happy.

I feel that my sister is very well cared for and that the staff are all caring. The home is always very clean and tidy. A member of staff talked to a resident to point out that fudge in her room was out of date, the resident said she would keep them to feed the birds and the member of staff very politely
suggested she would put them out for the birds. (Very well handled).

Food and drink - cannot comment on this as I don't see the food, and drink selection is good value for money, not private funded.
The staff are helpful and responsive to enquiries. The staff know my sister well and aim to meet her needs as best they can. Support from the designated GP is very good.
The admin team are helpful and approachable.

Staff good with welcoming and considerate staff who work hard but sometimes don't have time to chat to residents who would appreciate it. Some areas eg the top floor lounge is rather shabby and would benefit from refurbishment. Good news about the new well-being because more activities are needed.

More meaningful one-to-one sessions have been planned with our well-being coordinator now in place. HC-One is currently undertaking a phased refurbishment programme and in due course, Acomb Court will be allocated a date for refurbishment. All of the staff are friendly and helpful. Questions are answered courteously. Written information (eg newsletters) is sometimes misleading and contradictory.

Having visited my father for the last year in Acomb Court, the facilities and staff have all been of the highest standard and despite part of the last period being under the strain of covid, all assistance to help and assist both my father and myself as a visitor has always been afforded.

Staff have always done all they can to make the stay of their clients as comfortable as possible. Residents' meetings ensure that opinions are heard and acted upon so far as is possible when catering for all. It seems however that the overseeing of staff by their administration may not be all that it
should be or why should they arrange to leave and work elsewhere?

Since the Home Manager moved on from the home in February, the home has been overseen by a local HC-One Home Manager and also assistance from the Area Director. Recruitment is currently underway for a new Home Manager and from 4 April we will be putting in place a Relief Home Manager until Recruitment of the permanent Home Manager is finalised.

When we were looking for somewhere for my mother to go to recover from a broken hip some 3 years ago, both my brother and daughter visited several homes including Acomb Court. We all thought that Acomb Court didn't feel right and smelt of urine, Mother ended up in another home. However when I was sent
to Acomb Court from hospital it felt totally different, likewise did my daughter. I have to say I couldn't fault the place or any of the staff - they all did anything and everything I asked for. I was most comfortable and almost like a 5-star hotel. When my time comes to reside there permanently I would have no problem. I have spoken to several friends about Acomb Court and recently learned a friend's sister is coming there tomorrow. I hope she will be as happy at Acomb Court as I was. Thank you.

I have found the care staff ready to do their level best on any occasion. My brother enjoyed being resident in Acomb Court for a few years but had to move recently to another care home because of Dementia. Sometimes there could be more staff on the level he lived, but at all times he was treated with
respect and courtesy. The nurses worked so hard to meet everyone's expectations, and with a smile on their face!

My mother was admitted in 2015 when the home was under another care provider. Since HC-One took over I feel there has been a decrease in the standard of the home. The staff on the first floor have all been excellent over the 6 years but it is very apparent that they are always grossly understaffed.
The general maintenance of rooms, buildings, and gardens is now poor and places look quite shabby and rundown.

Thank you for your feedback which is very important to us so we can celebrate the things we do well and learn from areas which may require attention. In terms of staffing please be advised and reassured that Acomb Court follows an approved protocol in terms of staffing levels set out by HC–one and I can provide assurances that all Communities in Acomb Court comply with these staffing indicators. In terms of the general maintenance of rooms, buildings and gardens, please be advised that Acomb Court now has 2 fully upgraded and redesigned show rooms, one catering to the decorating taste of our female residents whilst the other caters to the decorating tastes of our male residents which is to be the standard expected within all our bedrooms going forwards. We have fully manicured gardens both front and rear with outdoor loungers and seating areas for relaxing in the sun and we have introduced to our garden bunny rabbits as permanent pets for our pet corner. Inside the building, our maintenance and decorating teams have been working for the past several weeks freshening up our bedrooms and communal corridors and we have also started work on a residents bar for the first floor lounge and of course we have our new café corner in the ground floor lounge to be enjoyed by all. I am particularly happy to hear that you rated our staff as ‘Excellent’ as they all work very hard and try their best to deliver great care.

Kinga Kowaliczek

Job Title: General Site Manager

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“Kind care, for me, is person-centred care. It is all about the individual and their needs.”


Kinga has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people during her 9 years in care work. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards of care and quality of life for Residents.


Having started as Home Manager at Greenways Court in October 2020, Kinga was the perfect candidate as she closely shares HC-One’s vision aiming to provide the kindest care for every Resident and has been a deputy Manager at HC-One for 3 years.


Kinga also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby schools and clubs and is always keen to include the local community in life at Acomb Court.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Kinga remarked:


“Spending time with Residents and listening to their life stories. Talking about photographs and memories Residents have in their rooms.”


“I enjoy supporting and developing my staff in any areas they wish to expand their knowledge, seeing the positive outcome of it makes me happy.”


Outside of work, Kinga enjoys many activities and hobbies, especially spending time with her family and travelling.
