My mother received the absolute best care here. The staff were lovely to her and I knew she was safe. The rooms were spacious, modern, and scrupulously clean. The food was excellent and the activities were interesting and varied. The communication between us and them could not be faulted.

My mother has lived at Charlotte Straker House for four years. Staff ensured her move was straightforward and she settled quickly. Mum is very well cared for, enjoying her nice, sunny, en suite room, with views of the garden, Corbridge and beyond. She is looked after by a core group of very capable
and compassionate staff - carers, activity coordinator, housekeeping and catering - and the volunteers who support them. There is always a warm welcome from everyone, including the excellent admin team who are the first point of contact when I visit. I genuinely feel included as Mum's Essential Carer and appreciate regular conversations about her needs and the monthly calls to check how things are going. I am confident about the way concerns or occasional health emergencies are dealt with. I would like to acknowledge the exceptional way trustees, managers and staff worked together through COVID, and the contribution and support of the Corbridge community of which Charlotte Straker House is part, then and now.

The team at Charlotte Straker have and continue to provide an outstanding level of care for my father. Everyone we have engaged with is professional and extremely capable, but they are also incredibly warm, respectful and thoughtful in their approach.
I am extremely grateful for everyone making him
feel so at home, whilst caring for his physical and mental well being. Dad always enjoys the social activities, particularly visiting speakers, and he absolutely loves your famous home-cooked meals and cakes!
Charlotte Straker is a wonderful resource for Corbridge and I'm grateful to the team of trustees and staff who work so hard to ensure it offers an outstanding service.

As a family, we were increasingly concerned about Mam's safety when she was at home so we were delighted when she was able to utilise the marvellous respite service at Charlotte Straker House. She loved it and it completely opened her mind up to the possibility of residential care. Mam was able to move
into Charlotte Straker House as a permanent resident several months later and it gave us all great peace of mind knowing how safe and happy she was going to be. The staff were exceptional, taking all her many needs and problems in their stride and making her feel part of the family. She was able to continue her hobbies with the support of the activities coordinator which made her happy. We felt communication with staff and trustees was exceptional. Nothing was ever too much trouble and we were kept informed not only by phone but by regular emails too. We were particularly pleased with the honesty, openness and transparency surrounding the Covid outbreak. It instilled trust in us all!

Our mother spent five years at Charlotte Straker House in such a lovely environment both inside the house and the gardens. There are plenty of activities each week for residents to enjoy together with trips out to other places that Mum loved to do when able. My sister and I found the care given to Mum
by the nurses and carers was first-class with nothing being too much trouble. The staff often went the 'extra mile' in helping out with requests. We always felt so fortunate that when it came to the difficult realisation that Mum needed residential care that she was able to go to Charlotte Straker. We had absolute confidence in the exemplary level of care and we’re so grateful for everything that was done for Mum in her time there.

Charlotte Straker get top marks as they provide a homely caring service and yet with the overlay of nursing knowledge and expertise that ensures the resident is not only in safe hands but caring hands.

I think homes could have all the policies and procedures you like but CS stands out because they

provide more than that.
They made my mum at home in her final years and they supported us as a family too. The support they gave us at the end of her life will never be forgotten as it was superb, appropriate and sensitive. I felt she died at home.
The food is great, the standards of housekeeping excellent.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.719)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.719) out of 10 for Charlotte Straker House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Charlotte Straker House is calculated as follows: ( (35 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 35 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.719 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Charlotte Straker House is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.4 = 0.469

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
