Mum was admitted in 2021 and, thanks to staff, went from being bedridden to fully mobile. However, this year has seen a change. Her appearance is dishevelled and her fingernails are overgrown and filthy. Clothes often crumpled from laundry not being put away properly. Sometimes she wears things that
aren't even hers.
It was requested that Mum be seen by a dentist and get replacement dentures (hers were lost in initial admission). She was apparently seen, but no dentures! She has lost a noticeable amount of weight and this is due to a combination of lack of dentures and her coeliac diet not being adhered to. The family do take in gluten-free goodies and drinks, but these are always found unopened in the room.
Initially, staff encouraged her, but that doesn't appear to be the case now! Mum is self-funding and, as a family, there is disappointment to see such a decline in both dignity and care!

My mother has been resident for just over three months. During my visiting periods I have noticed all staff are very helpful and very pleasant in their duties. All are very informative of any events concerning my mother's care. Kept up to date with any falls etc. Very happy with her care.

Generally, the care at Chasedale Care Home is good. Residents appear to be well looked after and appear to be treated with dignity and respect by the staff. I always get to be made welcome in the home and most staff are pleasant. Most of the problems I have experienced recently are 'nurses' forgetting
to give medication, which is not ideal.

Overall quite satisfied with the care home. The staff are friendly and seem to treat residents well, not sure about food as I am not there at meal times. The main concern is decor and furnishings in rooms as they are looking tired and shabby, also, lack of communication of what is going on. Although
I do get phone calls if there is any sort of incident.

Experience of staff interaction with myself and my relative is generally polite, helpful and appropriate. My relative has Alzheimer's and dementia and needs constant supervision and assistance. The all-male environment of his unit regarding residents is a place he is comfortable and affirmed. On occasion,
when understaffed, I have raised issues of poor care when his room was untidy and he was unkempt. I found management proactive to address the matter, I received an adequate apology and since then standards have improved. I value an environment where good attempts are made to address problems. While the bedrooms are requiring updating, I do value the hard-working, underpaid care staff and value the safe place Chasedale Care Home is for my relative.

Apart from the wrong appointment time, mix-up, the review went well. It was nice to do a face-to-face review.
I was able to ask questions and offer more background information on my brother.

During the time my dad has lived at Chasedale Care Home, I found all the care staff, management and support staff, nurses etc. to be very supportive of his needs. They go the extra mile with him which my dad needs.
He is still missing my mum and often has periods of melancholy which they recognise
and offer appropriate distraction techniques i.e. one-to-one or simply sit and talk to him. They have been very understanding and supportive of family dynamics, especially from abroad - Canada!

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The home and rooms are clean and well appointed. Cannot really comment on the food but my husband seems to like it. Only two issues really:-
1) Not sure if any activities are undertaken. Important for dementia patients.
2) Clothes go missing or get mixed up.
Not good when I buy new clothes for him.

My parents recently moved to Chasedale Care Home as their needs increased. The care has been fantastic and my parents have settled in well to the two different floors they live on - Bamburgh and Alnwick. Both appear very happy and well cared for. Staff are always approachable and helpful. We, the family,
feel happy with Chasedale and feel we chose well.

If I had a choice my father would not be in this care home, but with his dementia and mobility being so limited he does need 24-hour care and as I visit every week I do have a number of concerns.
My father has lost two gold rings, one was found and I received a phone call regarding this three months
ago. I ask each week but still have not received it back. I have been greeted the past two Sundays by a member of staff saying that you will have a bad day today as she has had words with him and put him in a bad mood about 1 x sugar in his tea and the next his coat, but I think it's her manner and the way she treats the residents, not good.
No activity or stimulation, only TV.
Dad said vegetables are so hard and undercooked.
No help with using the toilet and is unsteady on his feet.
I had to report the toilet twice for not working correctly.
I had to ask them to put in a new light bulb as not working.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we are aware that you are in direct contact with the home manager to resolve these concerns but we wanted to take the time to respond to some of your points. In terms of help with personal care, such as using the toilet, we conduct assessments with all residents to understand what support is required and to make sure we can arrange this. The home manager will speak with you directly to make sure any support needed is in place for your father. We are disappointed to learn that you are dissatisfied with the activities. Our home manager will make sure to speak with both you and your father directly to make sure he is aware of what is on offer and how to get involved. Your dad's rings are stored safely after they were found under the wardrobe. Our teams work hard to ensure that our residents are safe and happy and we always take care to listen to feedback.

I have found Chasedale Care Home very good. My husband's room is always clean and tidy. He is happy there but, due to his condition, he gets in moods at times. He loves the staff and they are very good with him and they are very polite and friendly with myself also and can't do enough to help.

We had not seen our relative for some time, generally due to Covid restrictions, and have to say we were very pleased to see her looking much better than we could have anticipated.
It is clear that she is receiving great care and being very well looked after. During the limited contact we had with
staff it was immediately apparent that they are highly committed and very caring people who are doing a great job, during difficult times. Whilst we were there nothing was too much trouble for them. We cannot thank them enough for the care, kindness and dedication they have obviously shown.

My husband was a resident in the home for two years having moved from a different care company. I was very happy with the care he got here and can not praise the staff highly enough. I was always kept well informed and never worried about his well-being. Thank you to everyone concerned.

My friend moved into Chasedale Care Home just over a year ago.
I would like to say a massive thank you to all within the home for their care and support but most of all the love and devotion they give not just to my friend but to all who have the privilege to call Chasedale their home.
It was a great
pleasure to come and visit and see my friend.
Having my temperature taken and wearing PPE for my short visit, which I thoroughly loved, was nothing that staff are having to endure every day to keep our family members safe along with themselves.
Thank you all once again. Stay safe. Love and light.

It is very difficult to provide an assessment on behalf of my father when I have not been into the care home since March 2020. What I can say is he is safe, secure, happy, healthy, well-fed and cared for and when I say cared for, he is treated with warmth and genuine affection. The staff do a very difficult
job with diligence, dedication and humour and I can only say thank you. I know he is in good hands.

Current Review Score: 6.7 (6.686)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.7 (6.686) out of 10 for Blythgate Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.4 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.394 for Blythgate Manor is calculated as follows: ( (6 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (25 Satisfactorys x 3) + (9 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 3.394

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.292 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Blythgate Manor is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.167

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
