Very happy with the service that is being provided at this home for my grandmother. She is happy and well looked after, and I have no worries about her whilst she is here. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone looking to find a care home for their loved ones.

My grandfather has been at Canterbury House for a number of years. The staff have been fantastic in the care they give him. Always found the staff to be friendly and caring.
During COVID we have been able to keep in contact via Skype.

I would like to say what a wonderful day we had for St. Valentine's day. From the invitation (which made me very emotional) to the marvellous food and the decorations and presents the whole day really was exceptional. We had a choice of food for the three course meal and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Thank you so much.

My husband has been very well looked after since entering Canterbury House in September 2017. Nothing is too much trouble for the kind and caring staff who treat residents with respect and compassion. Also, my family and me are welcomed each day with warmth and friendliness by everyone - management,
nurses, carers, cleaners and kitchen staff. On Valentine's Day, a number of staff had arranged an event for some residents and their partners. The kitchen staff prepared a lovely three-course lunch and other employees had set the tables with a 'Valentine' theme and put lovely little gifts and cards for the ladies. It was really so nice. Well done to everyone concerned.

A caring home where my Dad has been living for the last four years.
The staff are hard working, patient, kind and very friendly, often in difficult circumstances that dementia brings.

My mum has only moved into the home a few weeks, I would like to say how caring all of the staff have been and how Mum looks and seems better in herself as she can be.

I would like to thank all of the staff for looking after her.

We brought our mum up from London she had a six and a half hour trip. When she arrived she had a hot drink and a meal. She has settled in very well and had her hair done as she had let it grow far too long for her, they found a photo in her room and gave it to the hairdresser. It has made her look like
the mum we know. The staff have so much time for her and the management have been so supportive.

My husband has always bee treated kindly and with respect. He is encouraged to carry out tasks as independently as possible. He has good relationships with carers and the manager. The fact that the new manager speaks Welsh is an added bonus as my husband is a Welsh speaker. My husband enjoys his food.
His medical needs are promptly dealt with. There is a hairdresser and podiatrist who visit regularly, a dentist and optician visit and residents can see a GP is required. The cares work hard and have a good rapport with residents.

My friend moved into this home 3 years ago. It was a bright welcoming home but at the time had no permanent manager, was generally understaffed and staff morel was low. Since the now permanent manager was engaged it has improved enormously. The whole home has been refurbished to a high standard, they
are now fully staffed and morel is high. The staff are friendly and helpful and it is a pleasure to visit. My friend is very happy there.

I always find staff very attentive to my father's needs and they are always happy to discuss how he's been. They always make a drink for myself and other visitors even though staff are busy with the residents.

The premises and my father's room are always spotless and the whole building is very clean

and has nice displays of what the residents have been doing. Very happy with my father's care.

I find the care home staff very friendly and very approachable. My father is very happy being here and is very well looked after.

The care home is always clean and in good order with pictures and furnishings. I also like the garden area and I know my dad always loved his garden and is a point of

interest all year round.

Canterbury House has provided a safe, clean and above all caring environment for my aunt for several months. The home is maintained to a high standard with large airy rooms. However, the key element for us is the feeling that the staff genuinely care about the residents and look after them to the very
best of their ability, creating a homely, peaceful and cheerful environment around them.
Examples of staff going the extra mile include:-
My aunt likes me to do her hair and recently I forgot to bring some curling tongs, staff opened the salon and brought us the equipment so my aunt was not disappointed or upset.
Family are always made welcome, the staff know we travel up to two hours to visit and we are always offered a very welcome cup of tea during our visits.
I would be happy to recommend Canterbury House Care Home and thank you to ALL the staff.

On the whole, the staff at Canterbury House provide excellent care for all the residents. Since becoming a resident at this establishment my mother has thrived, through the implementation of a structured care plan. I would recommend this home to anyone considering a care provider in the area.

Canterbury House is, in my opinion, one of the best homes in the Conwy and Denbighshire area and I went around quite a few. It is very bright, clean, all rooms are a good size and homely. Under good management and all staff are caring and friendly. Having spent Xmas day there with my husband, who has
been a resident for the last 12 months. I was made to feel like one of the family. Also, the food was very good. Everybody had a really special day.

The first impression of the home is that the overall appearance is clean, bright and welcoming. The staff are friendly and listen to your concerns. I'm confident that my dad is cared for extremely well. He is always very smartly dressed and his personal care is carried out with dignity and respect.
The
management team offer great leadership as the staff morale is really very good. This is important as the standard of care from the nursing and care staff is excellent.

Canterbury House has improved within management over the last few months. Staff morale seems to have benefitted from this also which in turn provides a happy environment for the residents. Would like to see more interaction days i.e. musicians/singers to come in to entertain. It is very good to see
residents dressed well, treated with respect and it feels like a home not an establishment. The staff work hard, deserve a lot of praise and since management has improved, communication is better and always open door policy...keep this up- can only improve. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.704)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.704) out of 10 for Canterbury House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.120 for Canterbury House is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (10 Poors x 2) + (13 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 117 Ratings = 4.12

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.584 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Canterbury House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.784

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
