Canterbury House offers a depth of expertise for dementia care requirements, as well as being experienced in nursing and residential needs and available for day care.

The property is a Georgian building that has been purposely converted into a modern care facility, benefitting from a spacious interior, whilst being large enough to incorporate a number of specialist units and a hairdressing salon.

Residents have personalised care packages, in which an appropriate level of care has been outlined in order for professionals to be well-informed of any particular requirements.

Very caring staff, both carers and nursing. Food is good and varied. Facilities clean and tidy. Decoration leads to the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Most importantly, my sister is happy and I can be sure that she is safe. when she is ill, I am phoned immediately and kept informed of the situation.

My mother has been a resident here since January 2013. She is totally bedridden and cannot move or speak. She has complicated nursing requirements and the team of nurses and carers do a very good job. The new management team gave improved standards throughout the home. The staff are dedicated and create
a friendly atmosphere. Communication has greatly improved and any concerns raised are dealt with quickly and resolved without issues.

I haven't rated 'excellent' on any of the options because the nursing home is not perfect. More staff would help the team achieve this mark - as they work extremely hard under difficult and challenging circumstances.

I visit my friend about twice a month, he is always full of praise for all the ladies who look after him, he seems happy and settled at Canterbury House, his room is always clean and tidy, he says the food is really nice. When I visit we have a cuppa and chat, I would recommend this home to my friends.

I was most anxious about my Mum entering into a care facility as her disease had presented some very challenging behaviour with bouts of aggressive actions which had led to some very fraught situations - she was very distressed and frightened by her illness and confused about her circumstances.
However,
an admission support plan was implemented to assist Mum to cope with the transition. I was so relieved when I first visited Mum a few days after her admission to see her relaxed and comfortable in her new room and already developing good relationships with the staff. She seems to have settled in very well and this is due in a very large measure to all the staff, Nursing and Support Staff, who have worked really hard to support her needs and to make sure that she feels comfortable and safe in a secure, loving environment. Yes, loving - as all the staff seem to be every fond of their residents and demonstrate a great deal of emotional care and support to them too.

My mother just moved in the nursing home, but the warm welcome my mam received was just out of this world. The staff were so helpful, and just lovely to her and went out of their way to make her so comfortable, and they were so caring on her special needs. The food they serve is just so nice for her,
everyday something different; drinks of tea, coffee, juice were offered quite often to her. The home is so well taken care of, cleaned so well, and whatever you ask for, they do their very best to help you. I go back from visiting her, and knowing she is safe, well fed, and warm at night, but most of all loved already by the wonderful staff that work there.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.704)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.704) out of 10 for Canterbury House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.120 for Canterbury House is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (10 Poors x 2) + (13 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 117 Ratings = 4.12

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.584 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Canterbury House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.784

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
