Purpose-built in 1973 and refurbished in 2000, Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court stands in extensive, well-kept grounds situated one mile from Porthcawl town centre and the Promenade.

Within the grounds there are beautiful inner courtyard gardens made up of a fishpond, scented garden and herb garden for residents to sit in, relax and enjoy the outdoor space. There is also a bowling green and Club House in the grounds where matches are played throughout the season.

The Home is divided into ‘family-style’ house group units, each with their own team of care staff. Each house group has its own comfortable dining room and communal lounge.

The level of care each person receives will depend on their individual needs. This is continuously monitored and reviewed to ensure each person receives the right level of care. Please contact the Home for further information.

Having visited many care homes over the years whether run by local authorities or private concerns, none of them could ever compare to the Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court for its total commitment to the care and welfare of its residents. The staff and carers are a dedicated team who make you feel
like a special individual and always seem to go the extra mile to meet your individual needs. The end result is a happy and contented environment for everyone. I am so fortunate and privileged to be a resident at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court.

As soon as I arrived here I was made to feel welcome and 'at home'.The staff are helpful and efficient but never too busy to have a friendly chat. Despite the covid restrictions I have settled in well and am happy to be in such a caring environment and lovely surroundings.

My mother has been a resident for the past couple of months and I have nothing but praise for the home and staff. Allowing some of Mum’s furniture into her room has made it homely and familiar and she has settled well and is smiling and happy. The room is bright and sunny and looks out onto a lovely
seaside-themed garden. But it is the staff that make the place. From the carers, nurses right through to the management team, everyone has done their utmost to make Mum and us as a family feel comfortable with the home. Kindness and happy smiley people must be their keywords of operation, along with competence and total care.

For the four years that my mother has been a resident, she has received outstanding care. All aspects of her care! General health, Covid, comfort, cleanliness have all been addressed to a high standard. The staff who care for her approach the job with humour, which she loves. Facilities at the home
are modern and well planned. My mother often comments how lucky she is to be at Albert Edward. Top marks from me!

The whole set up of the home, from admin staff, service staff to nursing staff have been exceptional. The ethos of the environment is tangible, you can feel the kindness, support and trustworthiness, it is so comforting. Nothing is any trouble for the staff, they are always helpful and their communication
skills go far and beyond. I have never experienced an environment like it and am so thankful to have my relative in a place of love and care. I would class this place as a home and am amazed how quickly my relative settled into the environment and it is reflected in their happiness. It is a big decision to make and to find a place that ticks all the boxes is so reassuring. I have no negative comments to make, the whole experience has been smooth and I now have peace, knowing my relative is in the best home possible.

Arranged visit - time and date specifically for birthday. Greeted by cheerful, helpful staff. Visiting rooms are spotless, and very homely/comfortable. Resident very hard of hearing but microphone works very well. Resident very happy and comfortable. Staff checked to see if he could hear. Discussed
his health and recent update. Everyone helpful, cheerful and mindful of resident's needs. Very successful and joyful visit for resident and visitors. Thanks to all.

I have been very pleased with all aspects of my mum's care. She was given a nicely furnished room with views of the gardens. The staff were friendly and caring and I felt that standards of hygiene and shielding were very good. We could not visit her because of COVID-19 but were able to make phone contact
with the help of staff. Unfortunately, she was very frail and died from a short non-COVID illness. The staff were more than helpful and sympathetic and the palliative care she needed was carried out very professionally. As a family we couldn't have wished for a nicer place for my mum to end her days. Sadly she was too frail to take part in activities and socialisation, but she enjoyed chatting to the staff once she got to know them.

My father moved to Albert Edward from another home where he felt unhappy and unsafe. He was extremely satisfied with the care he received at Alberys Edward. The staff without exception are professional kind and caring. My father was dying from prostate cancer and his nursing needs were expertly looked
after. While the carers took the time to make sure that they catered not only for his bodily needs abut also cheered him with their personal attention.

I have worked in many care homes in my professional carer and can honestly say I have never come across a home like this. The staff go above and beyond. They are the most caring, sensitive, professional people I have ever come across.
My mum is so well cared for both mentally and physically. It's like
a 5-star hotel.

As a Freemason for over sixty years, and was present at the opening in 1973, I was able to visit over the years until I became a resident in 2017. Since that time I have enjoyed the companionship and the facilities and the attention I have always been given by the staff.

A very happy time amongst staff and residents down through many years. I have always praised the wonderful, caring and personal attention given by the carers.
The spaciousness of the home is remarkable and so welcome for exercise. The gardens are delightful.

Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court was our top choice for a 2-week respite stay for my father because of its facilities, the caring administrative staff, and the prompt provision of a respite place on the dementia ward. And while I cannot fault the care/support of the day staff, his night care fell
far short of expectations which were set by specific reassurances at assessment.


*Information about staff/resident ratio and high dependant residents was inaccurate or not provided.
*There was poor communication between departments and the ward was unprepared for my father's admittance.
*There were issues with a lack of 'intervention/encouragement' to ensure my father, who has Parkinson's Disease and PD Dementia, was appropriately dressed at night.


Management fully addressed complaints on two occasions and admitted we should have been in possession of more advanced information, apologised for the admission experience, and took steps to improve levels of night time care.

As a family, we highly recommend this home from our very first visit after talking to the lady that showed us around, also by talking to other members of staff. We are impressed by the knowledge, caring manner, professionalism and respectful approach shown to residents. My Dad's move to the home was
very much supported by the administrators who were very helpful, patient and understanding of family concerns. Staff members guided us through the process answering questions and gave time to advise us. My Dad has now been a resident for a while and he has settled very well. The staff supported this and the whole team works with the same ethos providing the best care possible for the residents. Each member of staff is skilled with kind personalities which brings positivity to the home, this impacts on my Dad's wellbeing hugely and makes him feel happy and at ease. We feel reassured that my Dad is treated with dignity and respect thus providing him with care of the highest standard.

I have worked at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court for many years, firstly as a carer between 1992 and 1996. I then completed my nurse training and returned to the Home in 2008 in the role of RGN in our nursing area, and then progressed to my current role.


Before coming back to Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court, I worked as an Advanced Practitioner and independent Prescriber at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, out of hours. I also managed the hospital at night in the absence of the coordinator.


I decided to retire from the NHS and join the team at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court, and have enjoyed my time here. I am very proud to be part of this team.


In my spare time, I enjoy travelling in my motor home and knitting, especially for our residents' stalls at events. I am part of a quiz team in our local pub and enjoy being part of the Home's events.

I am part of a small team responsible for providing a range of activities for our residents. Our aim is to make activities fun, stimulating and beneficial, and to really make a difference in our residents' lives.


A warm smile, a kind gesture and a listening ear are essential for this role, and we try to embrace this every day. Being a little crazy is also beneficial, my role model for this job would have to be the iconic Sir Charlie Chaplin. We might not manage to change the world like he did, but we will certainly try to fill our Home with smiles!

Having worked at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court for 5 years, I have worked my way up to my current role as Training Manager. I have many qualifications, including a degree in Health and Social Care practice, and I am working towards further qualifications in my current role.


I work closely with residents and staff, so remain fully aware of the needs of residents. I use this experience during training sessions to make it relatable and real, and to keep our staff and residents safe.

Job Title: Facilities Manager

I’ve been working at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court for the past 8 years as the Facilities Manager. I'm responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all buildings, grounds, furniture, fixings and equipment.


From school, I started an apprenticeship with the Ministry of Defence as an Aeronautical Engineer and then moved up through the ranks, managing aircraft servicing and their surroundings. I eventually ended up on the business development side, planning and scheduling when I left after 16 years, qualified to HND level.

From there I moved into fleet car sales, working for Sinclair Volkswagen in Bridgend for 6 years. Then I moved into self-employment (painting, decorating and property maintenance).

Having lived in the local area for the past 40 years, I was lucky enough to fall on my feet and land the Facilities Manager's job at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court. It is a wonderful place to work and only a stone’s throw away from my home and family.
