Purpose-built in 1973 and refurbished in 2000, Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court stands in extensive, well-kept grounds situated one mile from Porthcawl town centre and the Promenade.

Within the grounds there are beautiful inner courtyard gardens made up of a fishpond, scented garden and herb garden for residents to sit in, relax and enjoy the outdoor space. There is also a bowling green and Club House in the grounds where matches are played throughout the season.

The Home is divided into ‘family-style’ house group units, each with their own team of care staff. Each house group has its own comfortable dining room and communal lounge.

The level of care each person receives will depend on their individual needs. This is continuously monitored and reviewed to ensure each person receives the right level of care. Please contact the Home for further information.

Extremely caring, helpful, professional staff. However. it’s a pity that some musical entertainers have been dropped, as it's this that always seems to be the highlight of a lot of the older residents who thoroughly enjoy the old-time music hall scenario, which they interact with excitedly.

My mother would, of course, prefer to live in her own home. However, she realises that she is not fit enough to stay at home. She regards Albert Edward Court as the next best thing.
The staff are always helpful, caring and friendly. They attend to her needs very well indeed.

My Mother has been a resident since May 2016. Throughout that time she (has been) and is receiving the highest level of care. I have received/witnessed at the masonic home in Porthcawl. Staff are extremely caring and professional in all aspects of her care on a day to day basis without exception. Facilities
and social aspects are of a very high standard. She is very happy and settled there which gives me a great deal of comfort.

The home appears to be well maintained and the staff are all helpful. My mother in law seems quite happy there. It is always helpful to discuss her situation with the staff and get the up to date position. If I have any queries regarding her treatment I feel I can talk to the staff and they will do
their best to resolve any problems.
The home is well situated, the grounds well maintained, each day there are several activities the residents can take part in or watch if they have the ability to do so.
It is a good home.

My mother has been a resident here for just over 11 years. During that time she became less capable and is now blind, deaf and bedridden. Throughout tat time the care she has received from all the staff has been exemplary. She has been very happy here and would not wish to be anywhere else. The staff
who care for her now are fantastic. They always treat her with respect and gentleness and do their very best to maximise her (now very limited) quality of life. I consider myself very fortunate that I have no worries at all about her care. I live 100 miles away and cannot visit all that frequently.

This is a fantastic care home which provides a very high standard of care in every respect to my father who requires residential nursing care. The care team and administrative staff are courteous and genuinely concerned for residents whom they deal with in a dignified and compassionate way. The facilities
were also excellent with residents being encouraged to take part in many daily activities.

My brother has been a resident in the dementia support unit for the last fifteen months, having lived in a different home previously. He is well cared for and all staff are truly supportive. He has changed from being un-kept and unshaven with poor personal hygiene to a clean and tidy gentleman who

We are delighted with the care my mother is receiving at the Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court care home. It is beautifully looked after, clean and fresh. Mum always looks well dressed, clean and happy. She is very well and has been so much better since she moved into the Albert Edward. The well planned
and stimulating activities are having an extremely positive impact on her. There is so much going on and plenty of company that she is definitely improving in all aspects of her health. There is a warm and friendly atmosphere there and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. They are supportive and treat all residents with dignity.

My sister is very comfortable and content at this home. She is unable to walk, but I would be pleased if she could be taken in a wheelchair to enjoy some of the numerous entertainment. She does not leave her room at all.

Since my friend has been at the Masonic he has had the best care in every way. My husband and I visit him twice a week and see the wonderful care he gets. We have noticed since he has been in this lovely home, how his health has improved, he is much more alert, having regular medication and good food.
Happily he often says how good everyone is to him, and how happy he is.

Overall home exemplifies what every such care home should be. I have been a resident in this care home for three years. It is a spacious complex with main sitting room, library, bar and reception area, large enough to accommodate up to 40 residents for such activities as sitting bows. In the same
way each of the residents bed/sitting rooms with wet rooms in suite are roomy and very comfortable. The home is positioned in gardens including a bowling green used busily by surrounding clubs. The atmosphere in there is a happy one with carers each talking and displaying quiet enjoyment of their jobs, a priority of appointment being one of empathy with people. The local GP visits weekly. Activities are arranged morning and afternoon 6 of the 7 days and sermons local choirs or orchestras visit on a Sunday. Food is plentiful, 3 choices served at lunch and supper and tea and coffee in between or whenever asked.

I have worked at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court for many years, firstly as a carer between 1992 and 1996. I then completed my nurse training and returned to the Home in 2008 in the role of RGN in our nursing area, and then progressed to my current role.


Before coming back to Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court, I worked as an Advanced Practitioner and independent Prescriber at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, out of hours. I also managed the hospital at night in the absence of the coordinator.


I decided to retire from the NHS and join the team at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court, and have enjoyed my time here. I am very proud to be part of this team.


In my spare time, I enjoy travelling in my motor home and knitting, especially for our residents' stalls at events. I am part of a quiz team in our local pub and enjoy being part of the Home's events.

Being a little crazy is also beneficial, my role model for this job would have to be the iconic Sir Charlie Chaplin. We might not manage to change the world like he did, but we will certainly try to fill our Home with smiles!

Having worked at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court for 5 years, I have worked my way up to my current role as Training Manager. I have many qualifications, including a degree in Health and Social Care practice, and I am working towards further qualifications in my current role.


I work closely with residents and staff, so remain fully aware of the needs of residents. I use this experience during training sessions to make it relatable and real, and to keep our staff and residents safe.

Job Title: Facilities Manager

Joined: 2015

I’ve been working at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court for the past 8 years as the Facilities Manager. I'm responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all buildings, grounds, furniture, fixings and equipment.


From school, I started an apprenticeship with the Ministry of Defence as an Aeronautical Engineer and then moved up through the ranks, managing aircraft servicing and their surroundings. I eventually ended up on the business development side, planning and scheduling when I left after 16 years, qualified to HND level.

From there I moved into fleet car sales, working for Sinclair Volkswagen in Bridgend for 6 years. Then I moved into self-employment (painting, decorating and property maintenance).

Having lived in the local area for the past 40 years, I was lucky enough to fall on my feet and land the Facilities Manager's job at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court. It is a wonderful place to work and only a stone’s throw away from my home and family.
