Picton Court Care Home is set in attractive, spacious grounds with beautiful coastal and countryside views for over 55s in Porthcawl, near Bridgend, south Wales. They focus on giving a great quality of life to everyone, whatever their abilities and needs are.

The team of specially trained colleagues provide tailored care to all residents, including those with dementia.

They pride themselves on providing a happy, friendly and warm environment that lets everyone be as independent or involved as their needs and wants allow.

Picton Court is a stone's throw from Porthcawl town centre and situated 2.5 miles from the famous sea front of Porthcawl, popular not only for its fish and chips, but the annual visit from hundreds of Elvis Presley impersonators. It is also 1.5 miles away from the iconic Kenfig nature reserve and Prince of Wales public house, both of which have a vast history and are famous in the area.

Porthcawl town centre offers a full range of services, including a post office, dentist, pharmacy, hairdressers, doctors and several coffee shops, which residents are encouraged to visit.

Picton Court has regular organised activities according to the preferences and wishes of residents. Organised day trips are arranged to local beaches and restaurants, and social interaction is further encouraged through community and church services, communion, music for health, choirs and concerts.

All bedrooms at Picton Court are unique in shape and dimensions, enjoying panoramic views and offering en-suite bathrooms, televisions, telephone points and fitted wardrobes with matching units and chairs. Picton Court is tastefully decorated and people are encouraged to personalise their rooms with small furnishings, pictures and photographs.

Residents are treated as individuals with a clear care plan to follow. The unit is peaceful, indicating everyone is comfortable. All staff including laundry and cleaning staff are friendly, polite and considerate to residents. The unit is warm, well-lit and airy. Food is well prepared and well presented,
drinks are plentiful throughout the day. Activities are frequent for those who want to and are able to take part. Clothes are laundered well and hung in the wardrobe, well done everyone!

My husband has settled into the home and is doing very well. He sometimes thinks he's in a hotel, which is not a bad thought. He eats well and is looked after with great care, which is a blessing for me.

I find it difficult to give an honest/personal view of the care home since I have no experience of any family members being in care or the price of it, it is satisfactory. My wife has been in Picton Court for 4 weeks and I have completed my answers with her help. I have at times thought there was not
enough staff available to assist my wife in toileting and mobility.

My mother has been in Picton Court coming up a year. On entry, we did not think she had long to live. Luckily she is still with us and I believe it is down to the constant good quality care and support of Picton Court nursing and care team. The long-term employees here are a testament to how good this
place is. Familiar faces, clean environment, good food and entertainment all help my mum's quality of life and wellbeing.

My dad has been a resident for six months. We have seen an improvement in his physical looks. The care team are lovely. He seems settled but doesn't know where he is due to his dementia.

Although activities are on offer my parents have chosen not to take part even though the staff have encouraged them to do so. Staff are very caring and attentive and all their needs are met. We are very impressed with the way our father's dietary needs are accommodated and our mother enjoys the varied
menus on offer.

My mother was a resident in the Dementia Unit at Picton Court for almost two years. I and my family would like to thank all the staff for the kind and professional care that they gave my mother. The staff who looked after her care needs and also those behind the scenes were fantastic. We were always
made to feel welcome when we came to visit, and the staff were genuinely kind and caring. Often, we had a good laugh with residents and staff during our visits. Sorry, it has taken a while to write this, but a big thank you to everyone at Picton Court.

My sister has been here for over five years and is well looked after. I'm very impressed by the staff training and telling me when she is not well or a bit sad. Very impressed as I cannot be there 24/7. I always know my sister will let the staff know if she needs or wants anything.

Picton Court has provided my mum with a home, not just a care facility. The staff are professional and extremely caring. They treat the residents with respect and there are lots of smiles and laughter. There are plenty of activities to engage and entertain the residents. The menus are varied and have

18 months ago I chose Picton Court as a residential home from my mum and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. She is very happy, safe and contented and so am I and the wider family. She feels at home and has made many friends both with the residents and staff. All the staff are brilliant
and the home is lovely. I have come to know all the staff and they are all fantastic and they look after Mum so well. I regard all as friends of mine now. The activities the home puts on are amazing and I love seeing the social media pictures that are posted and in that way, all the family across the UK can see she is happy. I love the way the care home replicates and decorates the seasonal events and not just Christmas. The food is wonderful and she loves it all. Mum loves having her hair done and she always looks clean and immaculate in her clothes which are washed every day. Her room is lovely and is just right for her and I love to visit. I fully recommend Picton Court to anyone.

Shajitha

Shajitha Augustine

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2013

Shajitha has worked for Hafod since 2008 and joined Picton Court as Home Manager from 2013.


Shajitha qualified as BSC Nursing in 1998 whilst living in India. Shajitha has always been very committed and compassionate about care and believes her career is the most awarding job.


I enjoy supporting and leading a team full of excellent and dedicated staff who do their very best to give a high level of care to all residents. Although as home manager this can be challenging, I love being apart of the Picton Court team.


Ruth

Ruth Lewis

Job Title: Nurse

Joined: 2006

Ruth qualified as a registered General Nurse in 1989, she went on to work for 10 years in a general surgery in London and Saudi Arabia. Ruth began a career in elderly care 24 years ago and has remained in this area of nursing ever since.


Ruth enjoys working within a strong team as she believes her colleagues are supportive, hardworking and caring.


Ruth finds her job very rewarding as she can see that the residents are so well cared for, safe , comfortable and supported within the environment at Picton Court.
