Picton Court Care Home is set in attractive, spacious grounds with beautiful coastal and countryside views for over 55s in Porthcawl, near Bridgend, south Wales. They focus on giving a great quality of life to everyone, whatever their abilities and needs are.

The team of specially trained colleagues provide tailored care to all residents, including those with dementia.

They pride themselves on providing a happy, friendly and warm environment that lets everyone be as independent or involved as their needs and wants allow.

Picton Court is a stone's throw from Porthcawl town centre and situated 2.5 miles from the famous sea front of Porthcawl, popular not only for its fish and chips, but the annual visit from hundreds of Elvis Presley impersonators. It is also 1.5 miles away from the iconic Kenfig nature reserve and Prince of Wales public house, both of which have a vast history and are famous in the area.

Porthcawl town centre offers a full range of services, including a post office, dentist, pharmacy, hairdressers, doctors and several coffee shops, which residents are encouraged to visit.

Picton Court has regular organised activities according to the preferences and wishes of residents. Organised day trips are arranged to local beaches and restaurants, and social interaction is further encouraged through community and church services, communion, music for health, choirs and concerts.

All bedrooms at Picton Court are unique in shape and dimensions, enjoying panoramic views and offering en-suite bathrooms, televisions, telephone points and fitted wardrobes with matching units and chairs. Picton Court is tastefully decorated and people are encouraged to personalise their rooms with small furnishings, pictures and photographs.

Picton Court is a very nice place. Staff are great, they really love my sister and my sister loves being there. She's so happy. The staff will go out of their way to help her she as dementia and they really look after her.

Throughout Mum's 19-month stay, she was well cared for, happy and content. Staff are always happy and helpful and as a relative always kept informed of any issues and any upcoming injections etc. The care home security was excellent and both Mum and the home is always clean. All staff from reception
to cleaners, carers and nurses are friendly and treated Mum with respect and dignity. Especially at end of life. Treatment was amazing to both Mum and my family. Stayed 24/7 until her passing. Can't praise and thank the staff enough for their kindness and compassion at this awful time. Will never be able to thank the staff enough.

My mum has been a resident at Picton Court since August 2020. I highly recommend it as an excellent care home. My mum has received the very best of care and is treated with care and respect. The staff are amazing and I have come to know and trust them. If there have ever been any concerns with mum,
I have been informed immediately. It hasn't been easy with mum being away from us during the pandemic, but Picton Court and the staff have strived to keep mum safe and make sure we keep in touch as much as possible. Before my mum came to Picton, I looked into many care homes and none of them come close to providing the same high standards. Nothing is too much trouble for all of the staff, my mum has come on leaps and bounds since being there. So thank you again Picton Court for looking after my precious mum.

Very caring staff. Always helpful and informative. Premises clean. Food is good, plenty of interaction with staff members and residents with quizzes and games. Cannot find fault with the application of Covid rules and regulations. Always feel safe when visiting Mum.

My 97-year-old Mum has been a resident at Picton Court for 17 months and I can highly recommend it as an excellent care home. My mum has received the very best of care and is spoken to with care and respect. The staff are amazing and I have come to know them and trust them. If there have been any concerns
about mum, I have been informed immediately.


There is a feeling of a family-run care home and a good continuity of staff many of the staff have worked there for many years. It has been a difficult time due to the Covid pandemic and Picton Court has been passionate about keeping our loved ones safe.
Before my mum came to Picton, I visited a number of care homes and none of them come close to providing the same high standards. Nothing is too much trouble for all of the staff including the manager carers receptionists cleaners kitchen and laundry workers.

My dad has been here for just over two years and they have looked after him really well even when it's been hard to see him due to Covid. He is always clean and tidy and so is his room. I would highly recommend the home.

I was really pleased to get my mum into this care home as the first impressions were lovely. Mum was in there for 17 months and I was very pleased with all aspects of the home. Mum was well looked after. The choice of food was amazing as was the food itself. Every time I saw mum she was always spotlessly
clean. Over the last 12 months when the home had been closed to visitors I was always well informed as to what was happening with her. The staff from the cleaners to the management were first class. There is nothing that I can fault. The staff were so caring, my mother at times was not the easiest of people to deal with but they never complained. Mum was always treated with dignity. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The entertainment was first class although this had changed over the last 12 months, Covid fault, not the home. I would recommend this home to anyone.

I have always found every member of staff very obliging, kind and cheerful when carrying out their duties. Also, especially in the case of the seniors, very professional.
I feel all staff do everything they can to make my mother comfortable under sometimes difficult circumstances. Marked the room as
such only because a shower would have been great (falls perhaps and extra cleaning) and the food cooked on a large scale, sometimes appears a bit "tired". The manager always listens and helpful to requests.

From the first visit, we were impressed with the lovely rooms (kept clean and hygienic) and homely atmosphere. We have made friends with staff and clients alike. One of the family visit daily and are always made welcome. Food is excellent - choice given at every meal. Social activities are second to
none. Mum regularly plays bowls, darts, bingo etc. Regular church services are held in the lounge. The management, senior carers and carers are friendly, caring, conscientious and have the knowledge and skills needed to care for mum, ensuring privacy is maintained and wishes respected. I am encouraged to be involved with some decisions of mum's care.
Mum is safe, happy, well looked after and involved in activities. Grateful to Picton Court.

My mother moved in on the 20th May and so far the managed care and all the staff have been so helpful. The home is clean and friendly. I live 200 miles away but I'm confident that my mother will be well looked after.

All the staff in nursing care are wonderful, always making sure she is looked after.
I feel the kitchen staff always make sure they use her special milk and will also offer to make her items with her milk like pancakes.
The place is kept clean and tidy and they make sure to ask or show you worn or
damaged clothes so you can decide to fix them or recycle.
They always ask after me and always include my family on special occasions (ie Mother's Day, Easter).

Picton Court is a wonderful care home. The staff cared for my mother so well and myself and family were made to feel at home. During my mother's stay and illness, they were very supportive of myself and my family although they are very busy always had time to talk and comfort us.

Shajitha

Shajitha Augustine

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2013

Shajitha has worked for Hafod since 2008 and joined Picton Court as Home Manager from 2013.


Shajitha qualified as BSC Nursing in 1998 whilst living in India. Shajitha has always been very committed and compassionate about care and believes her career is the most awarding job.


I enjoy supporting and leading a team full of excellent and dedicated staff who do their very best to give a high level of care to all residents. Although as home manager this can be challenging, I love being apart of the Picton Court team.


Ruth

Ruth Lewis

Job Title: Nurse

Joined: 2006

Ruth qualified as a registered General Nurse in 1989, she went on to work for 10 years in a general surgery in London and Saudi Arabia. Ruth began a career in elderly care 24 years ago and has remained in this area of nursing ever since.


Ruth enjoys working within a strong team as she believes her colleagues are supportive, hardworking and caring.


Ruth finds her job very rewarding as she can see that the residents are so well cared for, safe , comfortable and supported within the environment at Picton Court.

Helen joined Picton court in 2016 where she began working for the domestic team and later went on to became Team Leader.


Helen has completed her NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care and works within the care team as well as being Domestic Team Leader.


Helen enjoys being a team leader as she loves working within a team environment, she is thankful for her hard working and dedicated domestic team. Helen has said to find her caring role rewarding and satisfying.
