Picton Court Care Home is set in attractive, spacious grounds with beautiful coastal and countryside views for over 55s in Porthcawl, near Bridgend, south Wales. They focus on giving a great quality of life to everyone, whatever their abilities and needs are.

The team of specially trained colleagues provide tailored care to all residents, including those with dementia.

They pride themselves on providing a happy, friendly and warm environment that lets everyone be as independent or involved as their needs and wants allow.

Picton Court is a stone's throw from Porthcawl town centre and situated 2.5 miles from the famous sea front of Porthcawl, popular not only for its fish and chips, but the annual visit from hundreds of Elvis Presley impersonators. It is also 1.5 miles away from the iconic Kenfig nature reserve and Prince of Wales public house, both of which have a vast history and are famous in the area.

Porthcawl town centre offers a full range of services, including a post office, dentist, pharmacy, hairdressers, doctors and several coffee shops, which residents are encouraged to visit.

Picton Court has regular organised activities according to the preferences and wishes of residents. Organised day trips are arranged to local beaches and restaurants, and social interaction is further encouraged through community and church services, communion, music for health, choirs and concerts.

All bedrooms at Picton Court are unique in shape and dimensions, enjoying panoramic views and offering en-suite bathrooms, televisions, telephone points and fitted wardrobes with matching units and chairs. Picton Court is tastefully decorated and people are encouraged to personalise their rooms with small furnishings, pictures and photographs.

Your staff was most helpful from the time my grandfather arrived until the moment he passed.
Picton Court one of the best homes in Bridgend and staff was most helpful. Very kind and quality care in putting him first.

All the staff at Picton Court ensured that the respite care for the service user was enjoyable. From the initial telephone call to when the stay commenced was just three days. The staff enabled the service user to re-gain his strength and independence and encouraged him to socialise during his stay.
Highly recommended.

This review is based on twice-weekly visits to my 92-year-old female cousin, who is physically frail but mentally alert and at times, strong willed! It covers a period of 3 years plus. Throughout this time and without exception, I have found Picton Courts care staff to be patient, considerate and above
all, kind and cheerful, whatever the circumstances. The duty nurses have ensured that any medical intervention, whenever needed day or night, has been prompt and effective, and that I am immediately informed.
Meals are wholesome and varied and there is a good range of social activities for residents. Private rooms and communal spaces are clean and airy.
At any meetings with Picton Courts managers, I have found them to be helpful and sensible in offering practical solutions to any problem encountered, with an impressive focus on the best interests of their residents.
Overall, it has been a pleasure, not a duty, to visit.

My husband was in respite care at Picton Court Care Home for one week. The care he received was superb. The staff were so caring, it was incredible. I went in at lunchtimes to give him his meal and we were taken to the conservatory for privacy, which was excellent. I sincerely hope he can stay there
again.

I cannot thank the staff at Picton Court enough for looking after Mum for the time she was there. Everyone was always so friendly, positive, reassuring and helpful in every way and their commitment to mum’s welfare and their loving care was evident. After looking at several care homes prior to my mother moving into nursing care, I decided that Picton Court felt the best home to provide her care. She has been at the home since January 2018 and I have no complaints. The care staff are very friendly and helpful and are providing good care to my mother.
Nothing is too much trouble for the care staff.

My Husband is a resident at Picton court. It is extremely well run by the management and nothing escapes their attention which is what a good care home should be like.
The staff are extremely efficient at their duties and residents are looked after with dignity comfort and compassion and are treated
as members of a big homely family.


A full time activities coordinator is there to bring in a social aspect with lots of fun - Bingo, Floor games, Quizzes, Musical activities, Armchair exercises, Reminiscence, Parties, Gardening Club, Fetes, Raffles, you name it he does it including taking the residents out for lunch which they look forward to.
In the good weather many residents and their families enjoy spending time in the conservatories or outside in the gardens which has stupendous views over fields, to the sea and over the Golf Club.
In my opinion Picton Court is the Jewel in the crown of Care Homes. I cannot Praise it enough and am delighted my husband is there.

Shajitha Augustine

Shajitha has worked for Hafod since 2008 and joined Picton Court as Home Manager from 2013.


Shajitha qualified as BSC Nursing in 1998 whilst living in India. Shajitha has always been very committed and compassionate about care and believes her career is the most awarding job.


I enjoy supporting and leading a team full of excellent and dedicated staff who do their very best to give a high level of care to all residents. Although as home manager this can be challenging, I love being apart of the Picton Court team.

Ruth Lewis

Ruth qualified as a registered General Nurse in 1989, she went on to work for 10 years in a general surgery in London and Saudi Arabia. Ruth began a career in elderly care 24 years ago and has remained in this area of nursing ever since.


Ruth enjoys working within a strong team as she believes her colleagues are supportive, hardworking and caring.


Ruth finds her job very rewarding as she can see that the residents are so well cared for, safe , comfortable and supported within the environment at Picton Court.

Helen joined Picton court in 2016 where she began working for the domestic team and later went on to became Team Leader.


Helen has completed her NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care and works within the care team as well as being Domestic Team Leader.


Helen enjoys being a team leader as she loves working within a team environment, she is thankful for her hard working and dedicated domestic team. Helen has said to find her caring role rewarding and satisfying.
