We were made to feel welcome from day one, after 6 months we now feel really settled into a lovely welcoming environment. The care given is excellent and we look forward to the entertainment events and the sing alongs. The food is of a healthy quality and cooked and served very well. The menu is varied
and we look forward to a different dish every day. The home is very clean and secure. My wife feels safe here.

Such friendly staff and clean home, staff very caring and efficient. For example, telling me about concerns and solutions regarding Dad's health in a very professional, warm and caring manner.
So lucky to have Dad here.
Love that the staff have a great sense of humour too when appropriate.

My mother has been a care home user for a couple of years now, and her needs have unfortunately changed from residential care to nursing care. The transition has been handled by the staff with cheerfulness, kindness, compassion and good humour. Medical needs and dietary requirements have altered, and
been dealt with professionally. On her good days, my mother has a sharp sense of humour and can enjoy a bit of joking and banter with the staff, and it's great to see her laughing and joking again. Overall, we are very happy with the standard of care she is receiving and are confident that any future requirements/changes necessary to her ongoing care will be handled in the right way.

My father has been a resident in The Hollies for 10 years. He receives good care. He is treated with kindness and respect by all. The nursing team are very attentive and don't hesitate to involve the GPs if they think it necessary. The team of carers are first class and ladies of experience.
The manager
of the home is a lady with many years of experience. Before becoming the manager, she was a member of the nursing team and she is held in the highest regard by staff, residents and families of the residents.
As a regular visitor to see my father, I have formed a rapport with all of the personnel and find the whole environment to be warm and friendly.

My mum has been at The Hollies for six months now and myself and other family members are delighted with the care she is receiving at The Hollies. She has a nice, functional room and the communal spaces including a TV lounge, coffee lounge and dining room are all first-class and always kept neat and
tidy. The thing that makes this place so special is the staff who are universally excellent. The management, carers, catering team, cleaners and maintenance do a fantastic job of creating a welcoming and homely environment. My mother was a reluctant resident initially but has settled in really well and is very happy there. This is thanks to the individual attention she has been given to make her content and healthy. There is a vibrant, positive, happy environment whenever I visit thanks to the varied and stimulating programme of activities on offer to the residents during the day which is a really positive aspect of daily life at The Hollies. We are genuinely grateful for this. Thanks!

My dad has been a resident since April and he has thrived. He has put on weight and made good friends with both staff and residents. I can honestly say I look forward to visiting him. He has a new lease of life. He's happy despite not being at home, and he's made the best of it. He's very well looked
after. We were really struggling with his care at home and he then needed urgent hospital treatment. He wasn't able to return home and he needed a care package. I will be eternally grateful for the care he receives, which not only helped him but helped my mother and myself. The Hollies have been a great experience for my father and our family and friends. It was also recommended before dad left hospital by the nursing staff and our friends.

My mother has thrived since being at the Hollies Nursing Home. All staff are really nice and genuinely care for the residents which is unusual in the current care sector. My mother is bed bound and was at home in a hospital bed prior to hospitalisation then admission to The Hollies. She is always comfortable
and well presented when we visit and is in a very safe environment. Thank you for looking after my mam.

I am very pleased with the care and attention my mum is receiving. The covid-19 pandemic has caused problems, but I believe the Hollies have been fair in their interpretation of the Welsh Assembly's rules. I know without the care she is getting, we would have lost Mum by now.

I feel that as a home for Mum, The Hollies is perfect. Recently Mum has been receiving palliative care; the management and staff have been kind and considerate, allowing me to visit each day, and made to feel very welcome. It was difficult for us all during the lockdown experience, but everything was
done to keep Mum and I in contact then too.

My mum has lived at The Hollies for one year. She had no experience of care homes but the staff and other residents welcomed her warmly and provided her with reassurance and some of the other residents were able to share their experiences all of which helped her to settle.
My mum has complex needs
and these have always been met in an understanding and professional way. Mum has not been affected by Covid, but sadly the crisis meant that family have not been able to enter the care home since March, but we were able to make short socially distanced visits to her from outside when the first lockdown eased and the activities team have been marvellous in facilitating video calls to my mother from quite a large family. Living 3 hours away it was very important to find a good care home and we did. From the moment of first contact, I have always had great confidence that my mother is safe and very well cared and the whole staff team indulge her, look out for her and engage with her humour.

Due to current COVID restrictions in place, I haven’t been able to see my mum since February, other than a couple of occasions during the summer when I was able to have a conversation, outside and at a distance. However, although a difficult time, we are so grateful that she remains safe and well, and
is still smiling through it all. This is a reflection of your professional approach from the very start of the pandemic of course. We have regular ‘video’ calls with the Activities Coordinator and this is so important to us, and I’m sure my mam also. We really appreciate the time given for these. Thank you.

3 years Mum has been resident at Hollies. In all that time Mum has maintained her positive attitude. This is in no small matter to the overall atmosphere created by all the team in every department. Through the lockdown, since March I have only had limited contact with most of the team members. However,
the WhatsApp calls from staff every week have been so appreciated (even seeing some of the other team during those calls). It's so nice to see Mum smiling, it makes our day. It’s obvious from those calls everyone at The Hollies is doing their bit to take care of Mum. Thank you all TAKE CARE AND STAY SAFE!

I think my dad has found it a difficult time due to COVID and we as a family have found it hard on not being able to see him but we totally understand and are very grateful for the well-being of the residents. He has found it hard at not seeing his great-grandchildren as he talks to his children and
grandchildren on the telephone.

The Hollies seems to be suitable for my mother, although she took many months to settle. I would say she is well cared for and treated with respect. Due to her behaviour, caused by vascular dementia, it was difficult to find a home which would accept her with her symptoms. Therefore, I really am grateful
that The Hollies welcomed here there and eventually managed her behaviour.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.099)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.099) out of 10 for The Hollies Nursing & Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.817 for The Hollies Nursing & Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (61 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.817

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.282 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Hollies Nursing & Residential Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.8 = 0.682

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
