Ty Gwynno Care Home offers residential, nursing, dementia and palliative care to up to 46 older people in Pontypridd.

The home is just outside the town centre, with a bus route into the high street where residents can enjoy shops and amenities. It is also half an hour’s drive from Cardiff. The home is in a quiet residential area with stunning views over the surrounding countryside.

Ty Gwynno Care Home is cheerfully decorated throughout its lounge and dining areas and its conservatory. Each bedroom is single and has a television point and WiFi, with a lift to bedrooms on the first floor. There is a large, landscaped garden with a seated patio area.

An activities coordinator organises a weekly timetable of activities, such as exercise classes, music and entertainment, gardening and quizzes.

Residents are involved in planning the menu, with all food being nutritionally balanced and dietary requirements accommodated.

Mum has been a resident for 3 years now. She has received the best of care since being there. Treated with care, respect and dignity. I would not want her anywhere else. Staff go above and beyond for their residents and the atmosphere is always cheerful. Cleanliness is 2nd to none and the fresh food
they provide and prepare on the premises is good quality. Outstanding staff, who make a real difference to the resident's well-being.

It is obvious as soon as you walk through the door that the staff care about the resident's well-being. The daily activities they organise stimulate the residents. It's very heartening to witness the interaction between the carers and the residents.

All the staff at Ty Gwynno are amazing, they are professional, and friendly and go above and beyond for not just the residents but the family too. The home is a warm and welcoming environment with great facilities. My father is very well looked after as well as being treated with kindness, respect and
dignity. His confidence has definitely increased since being here and I feel that everyone is now his extended family because of how comfortable he feels.
I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a care home.

My husband has been a resident in Ty Gwynno for 5 months and the staff are exceptional. They not only care for him, they look after me too and provide every possible means to stimulate and entertain their residents. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and inclusive. They treat everyone with dignity and
kindness and constantly look for ways to support families and friends when visiting. I know he could not be in a better place.

Staff are always busy seeing to the residents and very attentive. Dad is very settled at the home and likes to be in the company of the other residents. Always lots of activities going on at the home, with regular updates on social media.

Ty Gwynno is a lovely friendly home, with a real family feel to it. They have gone out of their way on several occasions to make us as a family welcome and included, and my Dad feels part of the family still. There are regular events, theme days/evenings and you can tell the residents enjoy it. We have
been included as a family in these events, again making it feel very family oriented. The manager and staff are really friendly and helpful, and you can see they care.
I couldn't think a home could be any better in my opinion, and it's nice to see they are also constantly making improvements to the home to make it better for residents and more homely. 10/10.

He transferred from another home to Ty Gwynno Care Home on Wednesday 19th of April. My wife (his sister) and I on yesterday's visit to Ty Gwynno were immediately impressed by the professional attitude and overall friendliness of the entire staff. Our daughter, her husband and their son, who is graduating
to be a doctor next month, said they are 100% professional. So well done everyone.

Wow, wow, wow. My mum was a resident at this home for just under 18 months. The team were so brilliantly professional and friendly answering and accommodating all her needs. Then, unfortunately, my mum had to have end of life care after a small time in hospital and the Ty Gwynno team were even more
awesome supporting her for her final weeks in March 2023.
Words cannot describe how grateful we are as a family and under the unfortunate circumstances we have experienced some of the best carers, nurses and managers with such strong communication skills, empathy and professionalism. The team here just go that extra mile. They say they are just doing their job, NO you are angels in disguise you went above and beyond in our view. Thank you so, so much Ty Gwynno Care Home you all will be in our memories forever.

My and my wife’s nan’s experience with Ty Gwynno Care Home has been nothing but positive. My wife’s nan has been a resident for the past eight months and has received exceptional care from the staff. They are warm, friendly and compassionate towards her needs. The staff always make time to listen to
her and ensure she has everything she needs to feel comfortable and at home.
The care home provides a wide range of activities that keep her engaged and entertained, from quizzes and crafts to movie nights, my wife’s nan always has something to do. The staff also take the residents out for day trips, which my wife’s nan always looks forward to.
The food is delicious and home-cooked. My nan particularly enjoys the Sunday roast dinners.
Overall, I am extremely happy with the care home and the care my wife’s nan receives. The staff go above and beyond to ensure the well-being of the residents and I cannot recommend Ty Gwynno enough.

My dad has been a resident of Ty Gwynno since March 2021. He is very settled in the care home and is well cared for by the staff. The carers go above and beyond to ensure that Dad's needs are met. They inform me of any concerns they may have about Dad's health - communication is very good. This is important
as I don't live close to Ty Gwynno. I'm very happy with the level of support and care that Dad receives.

My dad has recently become a resident of Ty Gwynno due to his dementia. My mother was also a resident at the home for fifteen months before she passed away in November 2018.
As a result, I had no concerns about my dad becoming a resident, in fact, it felt like coming home.
All the
staff have welcomed him, and our family, with open arms and he is settling in well.

My comments on the opinions say it all, but my experience of Ty Gwynno is as always excellent. My wife and I are both treated as members of the family every time I visit my wife there is always a friendly greeting, the staff are so caring and loyal. The nursing is always attentive and efficient. Both

I visit my mum in the care home at least four times a week and on every visit, the staff are welcoming and friendly. They are able to answer any questions I might have, regarding my mum. They ring if they have any concerns about anything and do all they can to help. Mum is happy and content being there
and well looked after. I have recommended the home to people who have asked me about it and will continue to do so.

My Aunt came to the care home in January 2022 after being in hospital since September. The staff are amazing with the residents always happy and polite and having laughs with them. They have also been amazing health-wise with my Aunt and they have called the doctor out immediately when they have any

My mother age 97 has been living in Ty Gwynno since January 2021. The care and support she receives from the care and nursing staff are second to none. The staff will communicate with me if an issue arises and they always make sure they have consulted with my mother first. My mother will tell all who
visit her that she is well looked after and all her needs are catered for. She especially likes using the buzzer for summoning support when she is in her bed at night. When I visit the staff are always friendly nothing is too much trouble, they enjoy telling me about the funny things my mother will say. My mother enjoys all the activities, especially the quiz and making things my mother and others recently enjoyed a day trip to Porthcawl where she had fish chips and ice cream: It was the day the hairdresser visited and the staff made sure those ladies who went on the trip all had their hair done to look and feel their best. I cannot thank the staff enough for everything they do for my mother.

We have just returned from another wonderful visit to Ty Gwynno, this time to celebrate my mother’s 90th birthday. Living a 3 hour drive away, I rely on the wonderful staff to help me with elements of preparation for the occasion. As usual, they went above and beyond, baking her the most magnificent
chocolate and fresh fruit-covered cake. We were given use of the staff training room so that we had more room to celebrate than in her bedroom. A pot of tea and a pot of coffee with lovely china cups and saucers. They really can’t do enough to help. I had made a few requests for help in advance and the manager and staff had been totally on the ball, all knowing about the advance preparations which is impressive considering the number of staff there. Some of the staff have seen my children grow up and extend such a wonderful welcome. There is a lovely genuine warmth about the place and filled with so much laughter and fun. I highly recommend this home to anyone looking for care for a relative.

All staff are friendly and the residents are well cared for, plenty of entertainment for the residents and for visitors to join in on the fun. Always clean and tidy everytime we visit. My dad seems happy and that's all that matters.

Nan is well looked after by everyone. She’s enjoying being at Ty Gwynno Care Home and has a better social life than me! She’s eating and drinking well. Nan is treated more like a family member than a resident.

I have worked at Ty Gwynno Care Home for the past 18 months. I was initially employed as a care assistant, however the past 9 months I have worked as an Admin Assistant.


I enjoy socialising with the families and being at the front of the home with a smile on my face. I enjoy my job and being part of the team.

I am from Pontypridd. I have worked at Ty Gwynno Care Home since 2013.


I really enjoy my job – planning and providing activities for our Residents and working alongside a fantastic team that supports me in my role.


Every day is a different day and we always have so much fun. Laughter is our medicine!
