Ty Gwynno Care Home offers residential, nursing, dementia and palliative care to up to 46 older people in Pontypridd.

The home is just outside the town centre, with a bus route into the high street where residents can enjoy shops and amenities. It is also half an hour’s drive from Cardiff. The home is in a quiet residential area with stunning views over the surrounding countryside.

Ty Gwynno Care Home is cheerfully decorated throughout its lounge and dining areas and its conservatory. Each bedroom is single and has a television point and WiFi, with a lift to bedrooms on the first floor. There is a large, landscaped garden with a seated patio area.

An activities coordinator organises a weekly timetable of activities, such as exercise classes, music and entertainment, gardening and quizzes.

I have nothing but praise and admiration for all the staff who have been tremendous in these very difficult times. They keep us informed of how my mother-in-law is, readily listen to my numerous questions since we were unable to visit prior to admission because of lockdown and a transfer straight from
hospital. Sorry about the questions. They treat the residents like family, I cannot praise them too highly. There are numerous activities which is so nice to see. The activities lady is just the best. I had previous experience of care homes and was not looking forward to this journey but must say the experience at Ty Gwynno has completely changed my mind. A big thank you to all and we look forward to meeting one day in the not too distant future. Nothing is too much trouble. Thank you.

The staff at this nursing home are absolutely fantastic, could not praise them enough. During this very difficult time of not being able to see my mum they have been very patient and understanding of my many phone calls and queries. The activities the home provides for residents is astounding, the nurses
are so very helpful and patient. My mum suffers from dementia and the staff deal with her very well and are always open to suggestions and listen to suggestions on how to deal with her care.

Ty Gwynno was recommended to our family by a previous residents’ family, and we will recommend now too.
I was struck by how well the staff knew the residents, the transparency for families, and how each person was made to feel like the home was their own.
I cannot think of anything else that my
grandparent could’ve wanted, especially during the final days. The staff displayed enormous empathy, care, sensitivity and respect.
Nobody wants their relative to go into a home, and they understood our predicament and offered plenty of support. Thank you.

My elderly cousin has been at Ty Gwynno many years. She is well cared for. Staff are supportive and caring, answering my concerns when I have them. My cousin is very happy here, giving us, her remaining family, comfort that she is being looked after. I would recommend a loved one residing here without
concern for their welfare. Well done all.

My mother is very well looked after for all her needs and nursing care. Plenty of things going on for the residents and they can take part in if they wish. Although my mother doesn't eat a great deal she enjoys what she likes.

Every time I visit here the staff are busy looking after, feeding and entertaining the people living here. They are always patient, full of smiles and quick to explain how your relative is getting on. The food is second to none as meals are cooked especially for the person concerned (my Uncle cannot
swallow and his meals are always softened, fantastic, it means he is able to get his nourishment). This is a marvellous nursing home with lovely staff.

I find carers very friendly and know all patients however senior staff keep well out of way even if visiting never acknowledge me. To me, it is simple things need more thought. I visit my "aunt" (actually late mother's cousin) and she will say I wonder what we got to eat, and I say it says brunch as
always! She says they serve up lots of cheese/beans, spaghetti on toast. Little more thought needs to go into catering, she's got no teeth but they give her boiled egg and toast, why not bread and butter?

Careless with some of my sister's clothes. I have given back to staff some clothes which do not belong to her but they still end up in her room.

Ty Gwynno is a nice care home with friendly and very approachable staff. I've visited many care homes to understand, but the grandest don't always have the best care. The care that I see at Ty Gwynno is very good. Residents, including my mother, can be difficult and challenging. However, staff aren't
phased by this. The home is warm and welcoming, and residents have good relationships with the staff. I'd have no hesitation in recommending.

The best thing about Ty Gwynno is the staff, giving care and support to the residents. They are warm, friendly, caring and do the very best job they can in a very pressured environment. If there were more of these lovely people on each shift, I feel the residents would benefit hugely on a social level,
as time pressure seems to preclude quality 1:1 time.

Since my nan has moved into Ty Gwynno, she has been for more settled and relaxed in herself. The staff are all friendly and will do anything to help. All of the residents always seem well looked after and cared for.

We found the care home to be extremely friendly and caring to my mother. They looked after her very well and she was very happy there until she passed away. The staff were always available to give us an update on her care and any problems regarding her health as and when they needed to.

The staff are very helpful and will do their best to answer any queries in an accurate and prompt manner. The staff engage in a positive manner with all residents. Residents are encouraged to participate in any activities taking place in the Home. Residents wants and needs are a priority and if there
is an activity that a resident would rather watch than participate in, that is fine.
Interaction with staff and residents is constant and there is a very positive feel about the place.
Activities take place on a daily basis and there always seems to be something going on.
Residents are given a choice of what to eat at mealtimes.
Staff are very open and honest in their conversations with families of the resident.

Since my mother-in-law has been in the home I have found all the staff very friendly, helpful and very caring to her. The home is always very well kept and all staff are busy at all times when we visit. We are also notified of any changes to her health and medication. We are really happy that she is

What I really want to say; is my husband is looked after so well. The staff are wonderful and if ever I need any care myself, I would only ever come to Ty Gwynno. All my family feel the same. The manager is a very nice person, and there is nothing she wouldn’t do to help. I was very pleased when she
did the sponsored swim to raise money for the home. I also like to join in with the home's activities, there is always lots of fun going on.

Very capable staff, thorough and caring. My mother is well looked after and monitored well. I am also pleased with the way the home deal with financial management of her money. The only criticism is her room is dark and not well lit.
