My dad was initially reluctant to move into a home. The care team in Pen-Y-Bryn did their very best to welcome him and make him feel at home in his new surroundings. Dad quickly settled and thought highly of the whole team and was happy to stay and live knowing that he was receiving great treatment
and care. The team were wonderful with my dad and our family are happy that his final days were spent with family and a great support team around him.

My mum moved into Pen-Y-Bryn in Autumn. She loved the other guests, found companionship and stimulating daily interaction.
More importantly, the nursing staff there were simply incredible. They treated her as a family member, with empathy and compassion, good humour and genuine care.
When she suddenly
became ill after Christmas the care to Mum, and also to our family, in terms of pastoral care was genuinely amazing. When we needed them most they were there for us, nothing was too much bother.
The people who work there go above and beyond. They look after their guests and I am so glad my mum spent her last days there.

My mother was a resident of Pen-Y-Bryn for nearly ten years.
I would like to send my heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful staff who cared for her during her life there.
At all times she was treated with love and respect.

I cannot praise the staff of Pen-y-Bryn highly enough. The last seven months of my mother's life were spent in a warm, clean and loving environment. Nothing was too much trouble and all the staff were very professional, as is the management of the home. The care and support helped to ensure that she
achieved her ambition of being the first member of our family to live to the remarkable age of 100. Thank you to everyone.

My 91-year-old mum has been a resident at Pen-y-Bryn for nearly 9 years. My family is very pleased with the care my mum receives. All the staff are very warm, friendly and professional and the home is managed very well. We are welcome visitors at any time, the home always appears and smells clean, food
is great and our mum's gluten-free needs are looked after and they have regular activities for enjoyment and stimulation. We have no hesitation in recommending Pen-y-Bryn to other families looking for a caring home for a relative.

I cannot praise Pen-y-Bryn enough, the care and love they showed my mum was incredible. Apart from being spotlessly clean, the residents clearly clean and well cared for the atmosphere is always happy, the staff always smiling no matter what time you visit. It is clear they truly care for the elderly
and show them love and respect. It is run with incredible efficiency but still manages to be a happy loving place. In my mums last days, the love and compassion shown to my mum, myself and my family was amazing. I cannot praise Pen-y-Bryn enough and can only thank them for everything they did above and beyond their duties.

My lovely Aunty has been at Penybryn for a few months. We are overwhelmed with the care she receives there. The staff members whom we have encountered have been absolutely wonderful. The home is spotless and no stale urine aroma ever. The residents are all happy and clean. There is a really warm atmosphere
there. If I ended up there in my 90s I would be quite content!

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.132)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.132) out of 10 for Pen-y-Bryn is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Pen-y-Bryn is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.132 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Pen-y-Bryn is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.132

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
