Swn-y-Mor is a 91-bed home offering high-quality residential, nursing and dementia care in the heart of Port Talbot. The home also offers care for younger residents with physical disabilities.

There are 88 team members offering specialist care for each of its service users. The home uses state-of-the-art technology to help deliver an exceptional level of care. These include digital care plans, medication management and 24/7 management for the home.

The home, which won the 2009 Care Home of the Year award, also offers virtual dementia training for staff, family, friends and professional stakeholders, so that everyone involved has a clear understanding of how to deliver exceptional dementia care.

Adjacent to the beach and with unparalleled ocean views, the home offers a peaceful environment for residents to live; the home has purchased specialist beach wheelchairs to enable residents to visit the beach and even go in the sea.

The enclosed garden at Swn-y-Mor allows residents to participate in exciting activities safely and freely, including mini-golf and wheelchair football. The home has its own gardening club for residents to join, which can help to enhance both their mental and physical health. Swn-y-Mor also has its own minibus, allowing for regular excursions and day trips.

Inside, the spacious home boasts five dining rooms and five lounges, its own Blush Boutique salon, and even a pub - The Creeky Joint - where residents can enjoy a retained sense of independence. Swn-y-Mor also has free Wi-Fi access for all, ensuring residents can stay connected.

Overall, Swn-y-Mor is a very good care home. Would recommend that staff wear name tags useful for residents and family and friends are able to know who one is speaking to, and agency staff can be easily identified apart from a change in uniform. Also, carers could, perhaps, aid residents to do tasks
and join in activities other than 'do you want to ...?' suggesting 'it's time you ...' or 'I have come to ...'. Negative replies stop the progress and well-being of residents. The majority of staff are very good.

Despite having POA over my mother's Health and Well Being, I am not contacted when my mother is upset and anxious. There have been times when the home has needed help with my mother's mental state and they have not contacted me, instead calling another family member. Even after speaking to the manager,
I was dismissed. This is hard as I was my mother's main carer these last few years. She is missing me as I have been stopped as a visitor through the care home having Covid. This is the second time in a month! My mother only became a resident there since Feb 2022; locked down within a week of her being there. The home allowed visitors on Monday the 14th March but locked down again on Wednesday the 16th. My mother has dementia and can't cope with not seeing me or my family.
It can only be the staff bringing Covid into the home. This was obvious when I witnessed a community nurse enter without an LFT or any other checks yesterday.

The staff at this care home are very caring and loving towards their residents. My mother was looked after with a lot of respect and bags of care and love. Every staff member became like a family to us. The activities ladies work extremely hard to make sure the residents have things to occupy them every
opportunity. The cleaning staff, the laundry staff and the kitchen staff take care of all the resident's needs. The management staff are wonderful, and if there are any problems, they will do everything they can to sort things out.

This provision cares for the elderly with dignity, respect and empathy. This provision always has time to speak to family, and they are well informed and are very professional. We are extremely happy, and more importantly, my grandfather has no complaints and has settled in better than expected.

In my view, the residents are cared for by Support Workers who are literally run off their feet and there needs to be more staff. There is very little personal interaction taking place in the ‘nursing section’ by staff as they have so many people to care for. So, basically, the people who are bedridden
are just left on their own for too long.
I firmly think that nurses should ‘listen’ to relative's views as they know their relatives better than them!

My late mother was in the hands of the most fantastic care team at Swn-y-Mor.
During her stay, she was provided with the utmost platinum care that we could only have wished for! Nothing was too much trouble for any members of the team. It’s a friendly, happy place, where we felt at ease to leave our
dear mother; she loved it there. All the team provide us with all that we needed to see our mother through the last difficult few weeks, showing nothing but complete empathy to us as a family; thank you for that time!

Carers are caring, professional and friendly. My mother entered the care home three months ago and has nothing but wonderful praise for the staff, food and the environment. Whenever she has mentioned anything she has been listed to and appropriate action is taken promptly. She has always felt safe and
loves the staff already. During these difficult times, the care home has kept in touch and explained all rules/regulations, so I have felt reassured too.

This is a very well run home. The staff are caring and always ready to answer any problems my daughter has.
The activities are well planned if they want to see a film they are also available.
They have the opportunity to have a visit from the Church if they wish to have their communion.
All in all
an excellent home.

My Gran who is 101 years old is definitely cared for in the highest quality care standards possible. She is dressed accountably every time we visit and I cannot praise the staff more. She has a smile on her face when she sees us and it reminds her of home because she remembers Aberavon Beach with her
advanced level of Alzheimer's. Keep doing what you are doing! The manager and the team must be commended for!

I would definitely recommend this care centre. The care received by my Dad is outstanding. Everyone from the cleaners and kitchen right through to the nurses and matron are so incredibly caring, friendly and efficient. Can't speak highly enough of the standards here. Plus the food is of such high
quality and quantity. Simply the best.

My wife was admitted for nursing care due to a multiple of medical concerns on the 23rd November 2018 and was a resident until her death on 20th April 2019. During that time she received devoted love, care and attention of the highest order.My daughter and I were also treated as part of their 'family',
which helped us cope with a very difficult situation.

My cousin has been at the home for the past four years and has a lovely room overlooking the beach. The staff treat her with dignity and respect, and there is nothing too much for them to do. She thinks of them as her girls and part of the family. She doesn't come out of her room, her choice but they
make sure she is included in activities. Everywhere else is spotlessly clean and she enjoys the choice of meals and home cooking. She couldn't receive better care.

My mother has been at Swn-y-Mor since October 2018 and she is very happy and contented with everything and all of the staff that care for her. The home is clean, warm and well maintained. My mum has a room with a lovely view and the staff are always to hand if she needs them. I must say that the staff
are constantly busy and it must be very stressful for them. Possibly more staff needed as they are all so busy.
Luckily mum is not demanding and can't be happier, she is so pleased to be here. A big weight off my mind that she is so contented.

We, the family, were promised a new carpet in Mam's room when she came here in October 2015. The carpet near the bed sometimes feels a bit sticky.


The activities are very good although Mam is bedridden and over the years doesn't get out of bed now!

My mother was only in the care home for a very short time, but the care, dignity, respect and kindness shown to her and her family was second to none.
I work in the NHS myself so I know the level of care expected and this was certainly exceeded. I just wish that she could have been there longer.
The
management and staff couldn't do enough for us. I wish all homes could meet the standards that Swn y Mor Care Home provides.

Swn-y-Mor care home is a very pleasant, caring home. It is always clean and the staff are always willing and helpful in caring for my mother. The entertainment provided is wonderful and there is always something going on to suit all tastes. The staff seem to go out of their way to make the residents
stay as comfortable and happy as possible. I would not hesitate in recommending this care home to anyone. In my opinion, it is the best one in Port Talbot.

Job Title: Registered home manager

Joined: 2010

Ceri has over 15 years of experience in the care industry, and has worked in Swn-y-Mor since 2010.


She took over as manager in 2020, and is responsible for the smooth running of the home, as well as the wellbeing and happiness of both residents and staff.


She takes great pride in her work, operating an efficient, effective and streamlined system to ensure a positive working environment for staff, and a comfortable, happy homelife for our residents.
