My mother passed away on 1st July after 7 1/2 weeks of illness. This was during lockdown.
My mother received the best of care and we were kept informed by FaceTime. She received excellent care at all times.

On visiting my grandad, the staff were very welcoming and professional regarding the current situation (COVID-19).
All questions that were asked were answered efficiently and I am very grateful that my grandad is in this nursing home.

Obviously, with the current situation, we have not been inside the care home, but my grandfather seems to be well cared for.
Frequent videos call have been a blessing.
All staff go above and beyond to look after the residents.

When Dad went into Pen-y-Bont Care Home, there were so many mixed feelings, and it seemed to me to be a bit wobbly, to be honest. He fell in the night and broke his leg which did nothing to help my feeling or his, but after hospitalisation, he returned to the home. Then we entered "lockdown", but I
can say hand on heart, I am so happy now about everything. We have had video calls every week, and I can see that he is happy, settled, healthy and well looked after. I can see that he's well thought of. He's been brought out of his shell.

Despite the Coronavirus, I was unable to see Dad but was allowed facetime contact which was brilliant, and we were pleased with the care and attention that he was obviously receiving. The staff are very helpful and pleasant. Many thanks to all the staff.

Since the time Mam first came to the home, I had my reservations because, at the time, they didn't have a good reputation (the home not the staff) but, mam loved it and was adamant she wanted to stay. As I got to know the staff, I came to see that this was the best place for mam to be.
Mam is always
treated with dignity and respect by all the staff and one or two that have gone out of their way to make things perfect for mam, and for that, I am eternally grateful.
The activities are absolutely amazing and so creative with the things that the lady does for the residents, especially during the COVID-19 outbreak I have been amazed by the inventiveness.
Thanks to the entertainment coordinator, it has been possible to video call and speak to mam all the way through, and again, I am eternally grateful to her for her commitment to the residents.
There are now new owners, and I am sure that improvements that need doing will be done, and I look forward to getting to meet them in the future.

As far as I'm concerned, the staff are doing a very good job of looking after their residents. They work hard at trying to keep residents in contact with their families. I've found them to be very helpful.

My grandmother became a resident to this establishment a few months ago. She had a short term residency in another care home and her transfer to Pen-y-Bont was the best decision my family made.
The staff are so welcoming and are very attentive. The care and dignity shown to her is outstanding. I cannot
praise the events coordinator enough and the dedication that goes into the activities to ensure all the residents are catered for and entertained. The interaction and stimulation is vital for residents to remain happy in their place of residency. I hope in the near future to get acquainted with the rest of the staff at Pen-y-Bont and build up a trustworthy relationship. Thank you for all you continued hard work and dedication of love and care given to my grandmother and her fellow residents. Keep up the good work team Pen-y-Bont.

My Grandad is having brilliant care, he is happy there. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. The staff do lots of activities which my Grandad enjoys. The home is very clean and tidy. Good food. We always have plenty of welcomes when we visit Grandad. Staff are very helpful when we bring my son
down to visit Grandad, my son has autism and global development delay. We are very pleased with Grandad's care.

My auntie has dementia and we had to make the difficult decision to admit her to a care home almost two years ago. My auntie settled into Pen-y-Bont with no problem at all. The amazing care staff made her feel at home and the fantastic activities offered meant that for the first time in a long time
my auntie was able to join in activities on a daily basis which she had only been able to enjoy weekly at a community centre. The monthly luncheon club, trips to the local theatre or visits by artists are some of the events which are organised by the very hard-working staff in "normal" times. During Covid-19 staff have provided contact with video calls, photographs and regular updates. Activities have been adapted in ingenious ways! Management reacted quickly by closing the home and keeping residents safe. I have nothing but praise for the entire team who run the home in my auntie's local community. Thank you for going over and above to look after my auntie.

I would like the readers of this review to know this is the first review I have ever taken time out to complete, but I feel I must say a big and well-deserved thank you to all the members of staff and management at Pen-y-Bont Care Home Abertillery, they have without doubt done a fantastic job over the
past few years of taking care of my mam, nothing at all is too much trouble for anyone you speak to at the home.
Even in this demanding time, the activity coordinator finds time to go to my mother's room and helps my mam communicate with me through Facebook which is such a joy and so rewarding to me and our mam, thanks.
The home itself is like one family and the happiness shines through the residents' faces.
My mam calls the care home her hotel, on days out she would often say when I get back to the hotel we'll have a nice cup of tea and a biscuit.
My mam is 84 this year. Please keep up the good work thanks all.

In this crazy time of lockdown, all staff have gone above and beyond in their care for all residents, keeping them safe well and entertained. Also keeping families updated via video calls, Skype etc. Without these special people and their care, would have been very difficult for all. Thank you.

My mum (who is 93 years young) has been a resident at Pen-y-Bont since earlier this year (2020). After having a long stay in hospital from November 2019, we, as a family, obviously had our concerns about moving her into a care setting. I can honestly say this was the best move for her. Once recovered
from her ailments which needed the hospital admission, she has settled beautifully into Pen-y-Bont with the help and dedication of the management and the staff they employ. She has a nice room with everything she needs, but spends much of her time in the communal area with other residents, and takes part in the many activities which take place daily. It’s much appreciated that the home keeps us informed at all times and always make themselves available to answer any questions. I would like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to Pen-y-Bont for keeping my mum safe, particularly during this difficult time (COVID 19) and to keep doing what you are doing because it is greatly appreciated.
