Before Mum was admitted to Parklands she was very poorly. At one time she was prescribed end-of-life medication. Fast forward 5 months and Mum has improved greatly. As a family we cannot thank Parklands enough for giving Mum a new lease of life.
What a lovely team the manager has, nothing is too much
trouble for them.
Once again we will be forever grateful for this excellent care Mum is receiving at Parklands.

My aunt, for whom I am responsible, has been in Parklands for about 2 1/2 years. I visit regularly and she always speaks well of her care and of the staff and the food. Last week Parklands held a 90th birthday party for her. They invited an entertainer and laid on food. All the residents came and my
aunt's friends were invited. She really enjoyed the day, as did everyone else. I think the Parklands team do a great job.

I can't thank all the staff at Parklands Care Home enough. Since my mum came here, she has had a new lease of life and is looking fantastic, every member of staff is like on big family and that's what I love about this care home, you can tell they truly care. I just wish her room was bigger so I could
sleep over.

We were met by a carer to have a lateral flow testing and waited outside for 30 minutes. We were escorted to my mother's room and found a very friendly atmosphere. The room is small so I took home all the unnecessary items to make some room. The 30 minutes visit soon ended and we were informed by friendly
staff to leave. Totally happy so far with mams care and covid protection.

Prior to having a mini-stoke earlier this year, Dad had been a resident at a care home, which he regards as his home. Whilst in the hospital in recovery, I was faced with a dilemma when a nursing assessment indicated he could return to his old care home.
Parkland met Dad's requirement, and it represented
and gave assurance of continuation of care under the group. I'm pleased with the choice made. Dad isn't as he once was after strokes and hospital stays, but above all else, under the circumstance, he remains very happy and content in his new home. Thank you so much for helping him; it is very much appreciated.

I have felt that the last two years, there has been a turnover of management, there is not enough staff to care for all the residents. Myself, as a daughter, haven't been happy. The way my mother has been treated with her needs, as for my mother's feet. I've asked the last year and a half, but my mother's
nails haven't been seen to. There doesn't seem to be any communication with members of staff.

My general view of the home is excellent. The food and facilities are very good. Staff treat residents with care and dignity. Sometimes not enough staff on duty and residents have them kept waiting for attention.

Prior to March 2020 when the national lockdown occurred due to Coronavirus, I visited my sister on a weekly basis. I found her to be happy with the staff and her surroundings. I was also happy and built up a good relationship with all concerned, joining in with the activities provided. However, I have
only seen my sister once since lockdown commenced and that was a garden visit, so therefore I cannot really comment on how things are going on at Parklands Care Home. However, I do phone regularly and am always told that my sister is fine and in good spirits.

Could not be more grateful for the wonderful care that my mum receives from the staff at Parklands. The staff have become mum's family in there during these difficult times something they have embraced and willingly do with great care and genuine dignity. It is a real comfort for our family to know

Care very good as Dad's settled in from day one. The room needs attention and could be a little cleaner. He gets his days but is 90 after all. Laundry needs a better system. The room needs carpet. Overall very good as his care takes priority.

During recent months, the levels of cleanliness in our home and infection control practices have been a big priority, and as such, we have maintained high levels of cleanliness throughout. Anti-slip vinyl flooring increases the effectiveness of sanitation and cleanliness in bedrooms and is our preferred choice for our residents own rooms. Part of our enhanced infection control practices this has included our laundry and linen management. We aim to return laundry to resident bedrooms within 24 hours, and the effectiveness of this process is greatly improved by individualised, durable labelling to resident items to ensure they can be returned to the correct resident in a timely manner.

Introducing Alison Durbidge
Home Manager at Parklands Care Home, Caerphilly


What does kindness mean to you?


“Kindness comes from the heart and it’s about being open and honest with Residents, relatives and members of the team.”


Alison has gained more than 25 years of experience in providing care and support for older people to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest possible standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Having worked at HC-One for a number of years before moving over to Parklands, Alison shares that HC-One’s vision is aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She uses her experience to motivate her team to deliver care and support in a way that Residents gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


She also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby organisations and is always quick to welcome the local community into Parklands.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Alison said: “Spending time with Residents and listening to their views and any feedback they would like to share.”


Outside of work, Alison enjoys holidays abroad, speaking French and spending time with her family and friends.
