The Fields Care Home is an independently-run care home which strives to provide a rich quality of life, based on individual service user’s needs and wishes.

The Fields Care Home can be found on the west side of Newport in the area known as Ridgeway. It is within walking distance of Newport centre, the railway station and the M4 and has good bus links to the centre and local residential areas.

The Fields cares for service users across the area from Newport, Cardiff, Caerphilly, Torfaen and Monmouth. Specific contracts are agreed with different commissioners, depending on the individual needs and wishes of the service user.

The home has two homely comfortable communal lounges and a conservatory, where residents are encouraged to spend their days as they wish.

The home is predominantly a single-bedroomed home but does have a handful of double bedrooms, to suit those residents that enjoy closer companionship and couples wishing to remain together.

The home has showers, wet rooms and bathrooms on each corridor within easy access of bedrooms. Dignity and privacy is respected at all times by the staff. The care home will provide a bedroom furniture suite in each bedroom and service users are encouraged to bring in their own possessions to personalise their bedroom and make the room feel like a personal retreat for peace and quiet.

The care home accepts all genders, of 55-years-old and over, without discrimination. Staff respect all cultures, backgrounds and the lifestyles of all residents. It provides long and short term, palliative and respite care for residents living in the community. Whilst the home is privately owned you may be entitled to have your care paid for by your local authority or NHS Trust.

Feel free to drop in or call. One of the care staff can show you around the home. The Fields is registered by CIW to provide nursing and residential care.

My mother was transferred to the home at the end of August 2022. It was a tough decision but within a couple of days, we knew as a family, we had made the right decision.
All staff treated my mother with professionalism, and dignity at all times providing the utmost care. All staff were indeed angels
and in our opinion unsung heroes. All staff deserve the highest award and recognition. Thank you!

The carers and the nurses are very professional and respectful, treating Mum and the other residents with dignity and care. The team also supports the families of the residents at a very difficult time. The team are truly angels on earth. Thank you.

When we were told my mother needed care in a home we decided to try the one my mother-in-law went into 17 years ago. My mother was admitted on 07/02/2023 and has settled in really well. She has just celebrated her 100th birthday and the home put on a buffet and decorated for the occasion.

I'm very grateful for the care my dad received at The Fields. He's had a prior experience at another home which was negative. The Fields was very different. It has a nice atmosphere with a caring team. Dad's wellbeing was paramount throughout his time and effort always made to enhance his experience.
As his condition worsened, I felt the communication was very good and care provided sensitive to his needs at all times.

My husband was a resident at the home for 12 months. He had dementia. Treatment was of the highest we could have wished for. Communication between home and the family was brilliant. Cannot fault at all.

After six long hard months in hospital my wife was taken in by The Fields Care Home for palliative care and what proved to be the last two weeks of her life.
The staff were superb and very caring and she was very well looked after in this lovely environment, and Fields helped make a traumatic experience
so much easier to bare.
I am so glad that we saw out this nightmare in Fields and wish we could have come here sooner. I will forever be grateful for their kindness and support.

My husband has been at the home for six months. I am so grateful that I found a home which is like a home, warm and friendly with a lovely atmosphere. All the staff are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble for them, they are always there if you need them. I nursed my husband at home until he went
into the home, which I dreaded, but I need not have worried. The care is excellent and so is the food, always greeted with a smile and offered a cup of tea/coffee.

My mother first became a resident at The Fields Care Home in January 2023 with vascular dementia. The room was lovely and very clean and smart. Her mobility was poor and needed to use a wheelchair but everyone at the home was very helpful and went above and beyond to make her time there very comfortable.
Everyone at the home was very helpful and caring at all times.
I would highly recommend the home to anyone. 10/10.

Mum has been at The Fields care Home for over 5 years. She has advanced Alzheimer's. Before Covid-19 we visited often and go to know the staff and residents. They have very caring staff who look after the residents well, with dignity and care. We are kept well informed of mums health, welfare and needs.
Over the time mum has been there, there have been various activity co-ordinators occupying those who are able to participate. Singers also have brought enjoyment to the residents. A highlight is the Christmas Party when residents and families join together to enjoy singers and entertainment with food and raffle which we could not attend this year.

No complaints very happy wit my husband's appearance and care. I don't think he would have survived if he hadn't come to the home. He is well-fed and loves his room. The staff and manager are lovely. I can't fault The Fields Care Home.

My friend was a resident from December 2018 to May 2019 during which time she was treated at all times with love and sincerity.
I have been impressed with the standard of emotional as well as physical care she received, after being lonely and feeling uncared for she knew she was loved by the staff
and was contented in that.
I live in North Wales so it was a comfort to me to know she was well cared for. Also, I found on the occasions I visited, the care was extended to friends as well as to residents. I was always made to feel welcome and immediately offered refreshments on arrival.
All in all, I would recommend The Fields Care Home to anyone who was worried about leaving their loved one in another's care.

As my sister-in-law's physical and mental health deteriorated and my brother was no longer able to look after her, it was an absolute Godsend for him and all our family that she was able to live and be cared for at Fields Care Home. Her general look has improved, she looks well and eats well. I was
particularly touched that the staff had organised to write a valentines day cared for my brother from her. Thank you so much for that thoughtfulness.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.715)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.715) out of 10 for The Fields Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.815 for The Fields Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (91 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.815

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Fields Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
