Both my parents are in St Andrew's. Overall the care is good and the staff are kind to my parents. I think perhaps at times they are understaffed - takes a while for a bell to be answered. My main criticism would be the food. Whilst I understand the mass catering difficulties it's hard to hear my
dad say his food is cold when it reaches him. It's also strange that a curry is on the menu for residents which is to me a strange meal to offer elderly people! I'd like my parents to have more fruit which helps their nutrition. I'm grateful for the kind members of staff who look after my parents but with a few changes it could make the whole experience better. Thank you

Reply from Georgea Buckle, Operations Executive at St Andrew's Nursing Home

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad to hear your parents are receiving kind and caring support - that means a lot to us. We appreciate your honesty about the food and staffing concerns, and we'll make sure this is passed on to the team to look into improvements. Your thoughts on nutrition and meal choices are really helpful, and we're always aiming to make the experience better for our residents. Thank you again for sharing!

Find the staff very helpful and friendly always a smile on their face.
Meals look lovely from what I have seen. Love that they make cakes for their birthdays.
The place is always nicely decorated for the different celebrations throughout the year e.g. Halloween.
Really love the lavender room,
it gives you more privacy to chat without having to go into the bedroom.
Overall a nice atmosphere when you go in.
The only negative I have is that the building inside and out looks tired and could do with a bit of tender loving care. But this doesn't affect by any means the excellent care that is given.

Reply from Phil Benson, Executive Director of Operations at St Andrew's Nursing Home

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear that you find our staff helpful, friendly, and always with a smile. It's also great to know that you enjoy the meals, birthday cakes, and decorations we put up for various celebrations throughout the year, like Halloween. We're especially pleased that you appreciate the lavender room as a private space to chat - it's always our goal to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for everyone. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the need for some TLC on the building's interior and exterior. Please know that we are aware of this and are working on plans to make improvements, as we're committed to providing the best environment for our residents. We're glad that this doesn't impact your overall experience, and we're grateful for your recognition of the excellent care provided. Thank you again for your kind words and constructive feedback!

Current Review Score: 7.3 (7.288)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.3 (7.288) out of 10 for St Andrew's Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.913 for St Andrew's Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (6 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 23 Ratings = 3.913

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.375 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Andrew's Nursing Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.25

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
