The staff are very friendly and hard-working. My gran feels very at home here. She enjoys sitting out in the garden with the other men and women planting and growing plants. The home is very clean and tidy. I am glad my gran is in this home, especially during Covid-19, she has been well taken care of.

My mum is a new resident and so far my mum has settled in well, thanks to the staff for making a hard situation easy on all of us. The staff are wonderful and nothing is too much bother, any minor issues I have had have been dealt with promptly. Mum's room is lovely and the activities staff are brilliant.
Huge thanks to all for the hard work and dedication they show to both my mum and my family and friends who come to visit.

It would be hard to find fault with anything to do with the care of my mum since she has been a resident. At a baseline level, the standards set inside the facility are absolute what a relative would expect. Beyond that, it's the things you have to really pay attention to. to notice that matter most.
Sometimes that is about things that aren't captured in surveys. Things like love. It's not just that my mum is looked after and care for, that she's comfortable, well-fed or that she has things to do. It's that she's loved and show love by the staff. That means the most.

Reply from Paul Lawson, Customer Service Manager at Newcarron Court Care Home

Thank you so much for your lovely comments and we are delighted that you are so pleased with the care that your mum is receiving at Newcarron. On behalf of all the team, we really appreciate your words and it's nice to know that our love for our residents is recognised. Your mum and all of our residents mean the world to us and the bonds we make are precious. If we can be of further assistance in any way please do not hesitate to get in touch. Thanks again and best wishes.

Covid has obviously changed this and made everything much more difficult for everyone. I think the staff working in the unit where my mum is, did their very best under difficult circumstances. It was difficult to read about how high up the table of Covid deaths Newcarron Court Care Home was, as I was
relatively unaware of this issue throughout the pandemic. My mum seems to have made it through, so far, and hopefully, with Covid on the run and with effective personal restrictions in place, things will pick up - re, visits, activities, number of residents attending meals etc. Not quite back to "normal" yet, however.

Reply from Paul Lawson, Customer Service Manager at Newcarron Court Care Home

Thank you very much for your review and we are pleased that your mum is doing well. It's been a very challenging time for Care Homes and also really difficult for families and we thank you very much for your patience and understanding during this period. We are getting back to some kind of normality and hope that restriction will continue to ease and life can get back to where it was pre-Covid soon. All of our residents and staff have been double vaccinated for some time now and along with routine staff testing and effective infection control procedures, this should give us all confidence that the recovery is progressing really well. Thank you for your kind comment about our staff which we will pass on to the team and we hope to see you more over the coming weeks. Best wishes.

My gran loves it here, she is thriving and enjoys the company of the other residents. She seems settled and content in which is all we ask for her to be happy. The staff are always pleasant and answer any questions which we have about my gran's care. Overall very pleased with the care and attention
my grans getting.

I have not been in the home since 19th March due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Since March 2018 I have visited my wide daily, I feel that the very difficult job is done fairly well most of the staff are caring and do a good job. My wife as a whole is kept clean well-fed and safe and appears to be happy.
The staff tried to keep one in touch with my wife via video links which has been great and I appreciate the effort that went into this.

Lockdown has been difficult for everyone. It has caused real social isolation for people especially those in care homes. My mum, (91) has been a resident at Newcarron since November 2019. She struggles to use a phone so is very reliant on family and friends visiting. During lockdown the only contact
with her has been through video link, I was able to chat even when she was quite ill with Covid-19. Because staff recognised the importance of these calls I was able to see how the recovery progressed and now she is almost back to normal. Without the time and effort from staff, especially the activities coordinator, these calls could not have been made on a regular weekly basis. My mum insists that she is being very well cared for and is very happy as she has so many opportunities to chat with the staff. This is more significant than might seem as she is bedridden and does not mix with the other residents in her unit. So, I know I speak for the rest of the family when I say we are very grateful for the level of care and family support that we have received during what must have been a very difficult and stressful time for staff.

My mum was in for three weeks and I would like to thank the staff, also the lovely friends she met, my mum put on weight and has spoken non-stop of the care and staff. My mum has never been a mixer but it has made such a change to her outlook on respite so thank you to all the lovely staff for giving
my mum a lovely stay she now talks non stop about all the people she met, thank you so much.

My husband has been in the home for about 4 months and I am very impressed with the care that he has received. I wanted to make move him to a home nearer to where I live but he's so settled now and the staff are excellent so I don't want to move him now. The staff really do seem as if they care about
the residents and this shows in the way they interact with them.

Since my brother was made a resident in this ward, he has been treated with kindness and understanding by the hard working staff. They are well fed and the staff are great at arranging day trips and concerts which they all seem to enjoy. The home is very clean and the attention to residents when they
are ill or a bit down is second to none. Thank you all for the care and well being he receives.

The social work department held a review in Newcarron Court with carers. My husband is settling in very well with everyone and also seems pretty content. He has gained weight which we are pleased about. He is clearly coming on well and the social worker was extremely satisfied with how things were with
him and informed us that we do not need another review for 1 year.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.993)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.993) out of 10 for Newcarron Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.705 for Newcarron Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.705

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.288 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Newcarron Court Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 116 registered maximum number of service users is 23.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 23.2 = 0.388

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
