I visit Wallside Grange every Wednesday morning bringing Holy Communion to Roman Catholic residents. In between I often have conversations with others. I have regular talks with staff and management, our rapport is excellent. Save me a room!

Thanks, John, that's lovely comments, and you know you do not just offer support to our residents and all of us at Wallside as well.

My father has been a resident since September 2017. I have been really happy with his care and he has settled in very well. He wasn't eating much when he arrived but the Chef and Carers coaxed him and went out of their way to get him to eat. He has now put on weight and enjoying his meals.

I visit my uncle several times a week at Wallside Grange Care Centre, Falkirk. The support my uncle receives from the staff is excellent. Staff and management are very helpful with any of my worries about my uncle and also support me if I am struggling. I know my uncle is safe and contented living here.
Thank you.

My father has been a resident since September 2017. It was a difficult decision to make but neither my mum or I could take care of him. He wasn't eating when he arrived but the Chef and all the wonderful carers coaxed him and supported him and now he is happy and has put on weight. It's a lovely comfortable
place and I'm confident I made the right decision when I chose Wallside Grange.

My wife was admitted to Wallside Grange after I had a fall and was unable to look after her.
It looks like she may be unable to return home.
If this is the case I would have no hesitation in admitting her to Wallside Grange as the level of care is very good.
Staff food etc can't be faulted.

Unbelievably helpful, compassionate focused staff, easy to communicate with, funny. A delight, lovely grounds. Always plenty of good food. Regular checks on well-being. A wonderful experience - much, much better than when I arrived.

The staff at the home are improving the care given.
There is a noticeable difference in care since a new manager took over this year.
The quality and knowledge of the staff are markedly different.

In the short time my mother-in-law been in Wallside, nothing seems a problem for them. They have made her feel very welcome settling her in and she is very happy with meals and room. They take her clothes, wash them and bring them back the same day. They have a hairdresser in once a week and my mother-in-law
is pleased as she likes getting her hair done, as well as her nails painted. It gives me and her family peace of mind she is in a care home and is being well looked after.

Dad was admitted for respite and assessment becoming permanent after 2 weeks. Staff have made the transition time bearable and given support whenever needed. I found it hard to let Dad go as I have been the person he has looked to for guidance, staff noticed my struggle and encourage me to continue
helping and not to feel reluctant and after nearly 2 years I feel contented Dad is in the right and safest place. Thank you.

I visit my husband daily. The care centre is always welcoming. My husband does not like being in a care home however, he is making the best of it. He would much rather be at home but that is not possible. Both he and I find the care home are doing a good job, with the exception of one or two carers
whom my husband does not like very much.

Both my parents are resident in Wallside Grange. My mother has lived here for three years and my father one year. I cannot praise the management and staff enough for the care my parents receive. The general atmosphere in the home is very happy. We are always made to feel welcome and any issues we have
are dealt with promptly. The food in the home is varied and excellent and Dad looks forward to every meal. The housekeeping staff work tirelessly to maintain an excellent level of cleanliness throughout the building and my parent's clothing is always freshly laundered. My Father who is of sound mind but physically challenged would like to be taken out more in the home minibus but I do realise that staffing issues may be a problem.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.247)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.247) out of 10 for Wallside Grange Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.914 for Wallside Grange Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (53 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 58 Ratings = 4.914

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.333 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wallside Grange Care Centre is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 6 = 0.833

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

Hi I am Mel (short for Melanie) the home manager of Wallside Grange Care Centre which is based in Falkirk. I am a highly motivated and experienced manager within the private sector who strives to ensure a high quality of care for the clients who use our service. I have worked in the Healthcare Industry for over 20 years and have developed a passion for it since starting as a care assistant in 1997. In 2003 I attended Forth Valley College and completed my access to nursing course before attending Stirling University in 2004, graduating in 2007 with a degree in mental health nursing.
I chose this area of nursing as I have always had a keen interest in cognitive impairment, otherwise known as dementia and believe that we can and should do the best for those individuals and their families who are on this journey, promoting a positive experience regardless of the individual’s ability.
My first nursing role was with the NHS, in acute admissions for mental health before moving into the private sector, working my way from nurse to deputy to home manager, joining Wallside Grange as home manager in 2016. This is a role which I really enjoy as Wallside Grange is a small, 30 bedded home, which I believe promotes a very personal and intimate setting for all who live and visit here.
When I am not at work, I enjoy catching up with my family and friends. I have two grown up children, who live in London and Edinburgh. My partner Mark and I enjoy cooking, walking, fly fishing, bike rallies, such as Thunder of the Glen and going on holiday, Greece is one of our favourite countries.
