My mum has advanced dementia and is currently a resident for a week's respite care. We visited yesterday.
Given my mum is often unsettled at the best of times, I was quite anxious about how she had been. But I could not have been more delighted with the home and the staff. She was settled, enjoyed
meeting people, enjoyed the food and everything.
The staff have that rarest quality: they actually take a personal interest in genuinely caring about the residents.
I highly recommend Blanefield House Care Home and cannot praise it highly enough.

Reply from Bobby Dougan, Manager at Blanefield House Care Home

Thank you for your kind words, I will pass these on to the team. I am so delighted you were happy with what has been provided for your mum. We do our best to make sure that every person who comes to live with us for however long that is; is treated with kindness, dignity and respect, these are the key principles on which all care should be provided. Here at Blanefield, we try to go beyond that and make everyone feel like family. Your mum has settled in like she has been here for a long time and is doing really well and as you said, is taking an interest in what is going on and she is getting involved like I am sure she did when she was the one giving the care not receiving it. Thank you, Bobby.

My mum spent a week in Blanefield House for a respite break. On arrival, the staff made her feel so welcome and also gave me the reassurance that Mum would be well cared for and safe. There was such a lovely feel when you walked through the door. My mum had a lovely stay and praised the staff for their
caring attentiveness to her needs. All my family and friends who visited my mum said she always looked content and well cared for. This was of great comfort to me to know. Mum is due another visit in May and is looking forward to it. Thanks to all the staff and management team.

My mum was a resident in Blanefield House for 6-days for end of life care. I was so pleased Mum was transferred to Blanefield House even if it was for end of life care. The manager is excellent and all the staff are very caring. I, myself, am a retired district nurse, sister and midwife, and I would
be so happy to recommend Blanefield House for excellent care.

Blanefield House Care Home takes on a holistic approach to care. The staff not only care greatly for the residents but appear aware of the needs of family members who are visiting the home. The staff are always helpful and cheery and there is an ethos of positivity and calm. The staff are knowledgeable,
well informed and show sensitivity in all situations.
My mum was a resident there from June to October. The care she received was of a high standard and the staff were able to form positive bonds with my mum and the family. We are extremely thankful to Blanefield House Care Home for making the last days of my mum’s life so peaceful for her and the family.

My father had an emergency admission to this care home as he had been falling at home and his Alzheimers had deteriorated. The home manager was excellent in assisting at a difficult time and the staff have been outstanding with my dad. He has improved tremendously and although he is moving to another
care home, this is only as he is moving to be nearer to me.

Reply from Stuart Waterfall, Manager at Blanefield House Care Home

Thank you for your kind words. Our staff work very hard to provide high standards of care and excellent customer service throughout all areas of our care home. It was a pleasure to know and care for your father. We would like to offer both of you our best wishes.

A wonderful welcome awaits everyone. All staff are very kind, interested and helpful. They try their best to get to know and fully understand all residents, even if a resident is difficult. My husband is currently here for respite funded by the local authority.

My husband has been in Blanefield House Care Home for over one year. As regards staff, all of them down to the domestics and kitchen staff, I cannot praise them enough for their loving, understanding care. Such a homely, friendly atmosphere. A home from home. Rooms kept so clean (always going round
inspecting rooms). One suggesting for residents with dementia is nice background music that they can associate with. That is not to say they don't have music but perhaps a bit more thought out. Some residents are beyond watching films, doing games etc.

Reply from Jacquie, Home Administrator at Blanefield House Care Home

Many thanks for this positive feedback Joyce. The support you show not only to the staff but to the home is overwhelming and we promise to continue to deliver a home from home environment for your loved one. All feedback will be processed during our monthly quality assurance checks and we hope that you will see improvements.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.331)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.331) out of 10 for Blanefield House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.950 for Blanefield House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (19 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 20 Ratings = 4.95

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.381 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Blanefield House Care Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.8 = 0.256

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
