Winner of the Scotland Care Home of the Year Accolade in the Caring UK Awards 2023, the team at Allanbank create so many opportunities to enrich their residents’ lives at the home, which has stunning views of the countryside and the River Nith.

The team create their own musicals, like The Sound of Music and Sister Act, with full make up and fantastic costumes, the residents love singing along. The team often perform in the home's car park for the local community to enjoy.

There are regular swimming sessions at the local hydrotherapy pool, as well as tai chi classes.

The entire team embrace activities. One of the carers is a talented artist so runs art sessions with the residents. She even organised an exhibition for their families, transforming the home’s bar into a gallery.

Residents who love cooking spend time with the home’s chef, who helps them to recreate their favourite recipes, which are added to Allanbank’s Recipe Book.

The local football club run a reminiscence group, where the residents meet fellow fans and former players.

The home has a fantastic relationship with the Theatre Royal – which donates front row tickets for residents to enjoy performances.

The team are passionate about keeping their residents connected to their local community, so organise regular pub lunches, visits to garden centres, church coffee mornings, animal farms and community high teas and dances.

The residents can also enjoy regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser in the home’s hair and nail salon.

Allanbank is made up of smaller individual communities, with cosy lounge and dining areas, which gives it a warm, family feel. There are enclosed courtyard gardens, with wheelchair-friendly pathways and raised planters, where the residents enjoy growing their own produce.

And the home-cooked food is a real highlight, with home baking every day for afternoon tea.

I found during this time it was very difficult to get someone to talk to on the phone regarding my husband.

My wife was admitted to Allanbank Care Home, Dumfries, on the 5th February 2020. Because of lockdown I haven't been allowed in since 15th March 2020, although I have seen her once on Skype. My gut feeling is that she is receiving a very good standard of care. I have left the box for activities because
I don't really know what activities she does and because she has dementia she doesn't always remember.

Since moving into the home, my father has settled well and was made very welcome. All of the staff keep us up to date of everything that is happening and my father's health and wellbeing.

I have always found the staff to be helpful. They do an excellent job at difficult times and although distance prevents me visiting my parents, the staff do keep me well informed.

My father was placed in Allanbank as a temporary placement. My family was not keen due to comments from other people. These comments are completely untrue - I would totally recommend this home. The staff are friendly, helpful and very caring. The unit is immaculate and so is the building. My only wish
is this home was closer to where we live as we would make this a permanent placement.

I find the standard of care to be excellent and the staff are very patient and caring with my mother. My mum can be very difficult to work with at times but the staff are still very good in working with her. The home is very well kept and very clean. The food menu is lovely and they cater for my mum's
special dietary needs.

Care and attention towards my mum were excellent from the moment she arrived from a long hospital stay. The genuine care and compassion given during her last weeks until she passed away in Allanbank were second to none and myself and family are very appreciative of the commitment shown by all the staff.

I have been helped a great deal with my husband.

In the time (just over a year) my mother has been at Allanbank myself and the rest of the family have always been made welcome at all times and have been kept fully informed with any changes and appointments etc. The food choices and activities offered are excellent and the cleanliness of Allanbank

Mum has lived in Allanbank for one week.
What an amazing place, with very friendly, approachable and helpful staff who constantly make an effort to create a lively, but safe environment in which my Mum has thrived.
Recently, at home, my Mum has really struggled to cope, becoming very isolated and
reclusive, often sitting staring vacantly into space.
Allanbank has caused a complete reversal in her life. She is already back to being a sociable person, fully embracing the proactive society within Allanbank. Engaging in, and thoroughly enjoying all the social opportunities on offer - eating socially, engaging in conversations, enjoying the numerous activity groups and trips in the minibus. It's as if a miracle has occurred.
I have already told all my friends and a neighbour, whose husband requires care, what a wonderful place Allanbank is.
The staff attend cheerfully to my Mum's needs and they make every effort to make Allanbank a great place to live. It's everything I would hope for Mum's future - a safe, happy and secure environment in which her needs are met, where she is involved happily with other people, with whom she can relate to, and feel safe, secure, confident and happy.

I have visited and found my brother to be very dirty and smelly since he came to be a resident at Allanbank Care Home.
I feel that I don't have an opinion. I have tried to raise issues in the past that weren't resolved so I had no other option and I contacted the care inspector she also found issues
with my brother's room needing a deep clean. Since then there was a meeting with the under manager to tell me that my brother was being evicted as they couldn't meet my standards.

My mother has been in Allanbank Care Home for quite some time. I have always found all of the staff to be kind, polite and caring. My mother is in safe hands it gives me and the rest of the family peace of mind. We are always welcomed and kept informed of her medication etc. Thank you.

My wife arrived at Allanbank Care home early December 2018 and after visiting daily for a few weeks, was invited to share the home's Christmas lunch which I found to be rather daunting. However, in February 2019, a Valentine's dinner proved to be most enjoyable which provides evidence that time is required
in which to settle in.

Firstly, you can't compare the level of service as I have not seen any alternatives. I generally am impressed but wish at times I could have a confirmed contact for when is best to discuss my mum's welfare. It is nice to be invited to some events. I would like to be updated if my mother attends a hospital
outpatient's as Mother can struggle to confirm the full outcome.

My uncle received amazing care during the year he spent at Allanbank. The staff were so dedicated and caring and always went above and beyond for those in their care.
I cannot praise Allanbank highly enough for the work they do and know that it was because of the care my uncle received that we had
this final year with him which I am so thankful for. We live a two-hour drive from Dumfries so could only visit once a week, though I phoned daily and spoke to my uncle, but never doubted he was in safe hands at all times. If there were any concerns about my uncle the staff phoned me immediately and felt they were like extended family to us.
