The Beeches Care Home, tucked away in a quiet residential area on the edge of Dunfermline, supports older people to lead their best lives with personalised nursing and nursing dementia care.

The lovely home offers many facilities for residents to enjoy such as on-site hair salon, lovely garden area and café. The enhanced wellbeing programme allows residents to pursue hobbies and interests whilst learning new skills.

The catering team at The Beeches understands the nutritional needs of older people and creates delicious meals to ensure a lovely dining experience for all residents and visitors. They offer a wide range of popular dining areas that provide a welcoming space to enjoy meals with fellow residents, or family and friends.

The dedicated and professional care team at The Beeches likes to learn about each resident’s hobbies and interests to design a comprehensive activity programme, supporting those living in the home to enjoy the things they love most. From building relationships with neighbours in local community groups and schools, to arranging sightseeing trips in the local area, at The Beeches, residents are supported to take an active role in the Dunfermline community.

From care assistants and nurses, to wellbeing coordinators and chefs, each and every member of the team is there to assist you or your loved one in settling into the home. Mother well cared for. Carers are patient with residents. Carers and staff try their best to ensure residents are happy and well looked after.

My aunt has been there for a few months now and the staff have been really supportive in helping her settle in, which for the first 6 weeks was extremely challenging for them.
My only gripe is there doesn't appear to be a lot of activities/entertainment on offer for stimulation.
Perhaps some knitting
needles/crochet hooks etc, packs of cards or dominoes or puzzle books etc. left in view or placed on tables when they come back to the lounge.
Overall the level of care is good and my aunt has now settled in.

First impressions mean a lot to me and from my first visit until now, the staff have always been friendly, welcoming and open with answers to any questions I have had. Home is not too big either and is easy to navigate. Everyone has been very supportive and understands that this environment is new
to the resident, and the family, so offer tips to help you get through things. Nothing is too much trouble, and any issues are addressed relatively quickly depending on what it is.


General maintenance for things like light bulbs could be dealt with more quickly though, as I had to ask three times for a bulb to be replaced in Mum's room. There is only one maintenance man who unfortunately has been off for a number of weeks so would be helpful if a 'relief' was available for these situations. There is a refurbishment plan in place with new carpets due for the upstairs lounge, along with redecoration of some main areas according to the recent newsletter. The home is well kept but is a little tired in some places which the refurb should address. This does not have an effect on the cleanliness of the home.


Rooms are good sized, with sturdy furniture and nicely decorated. Residents can personalise their room however they want. Each room is deep cleaned before a new resident moves in too. The ensuite is spacious but does not have a shower, however the bathrooms are very spacious with either a bath or wet room shower with all the appliances that are likely to be needed.


Home has their own minibus which was one of my reasons for choosing it, however it is unfortunate that there is only one volunteer driver who at time of writing this review, had been unable to take the residents on outings for quite a number of weeks. The Manager is very keen to get outings back on the agenda but getting another driver is quite a challenge. This is such a shame as the bus is sitting idle when many residents would love a wee trip to local garden centres, parks or theatres. I really hope this is addressed soon.


The daily menu is displayed in reception and sounds really appetising. Main meal is at lunch time with a lighter tea in the evening. Kitchen will accommodate special requests as far as possible, but it's worth keeping in mind that the menus are controlled from Head Office and not on site. There seems to be a lot of soup and sandwiches on offer for tea regularly, so would be good to hear that more choices are considered for this.


Overall I'm happy with The Beeches after Mum being here for two months.

As a company HC-One strive to provide adequate cover for all departments within the home including during periods of absence so that a quality service can be maintained. As part of this we also strive to ensure that appropriate activities are arranged for our Residents including regular outings. Unfortunately it has been difficult to recruit volunteer drivers therefore at present outings are limited but we are continuing to recruit to increase the number of outings.
