Laurels Lodge care home provides nursing care to up to 45 older people with dementia including those with learning disabilities. The home is situated in Woodside, Aberdeen, close to local shops and pubs and a short journey from Aberdeen city centre and the sea.

The home is bright and tastefully decorated. Each bedroom has a television point and telephone point as well as en-suite facilities. The home also features a garden, lounge and dining areas and a hair salon.

There is plenty to do, with group activity sessions including art, music and visiting entertainers. All food is freshly prepared in the kitchen, is nutritionally balanced and caters to individual dietary requirements.

My father is a resident at Laurel's and is well looked after. Always clean and shaved. Great activities held. His room is always clean and tidy.
Only down fall is the lack of parking. The gardens are ok. All staff are welcoming and polite. Food is good. We held a small family party for his birthday
and they provided sandwiches etc at no cost.

My Dad has been at Laurels for nearly a year now and we couldn't ask for a better care home for him. The staff are caring and supportive and always puts the needs of the residents first. They have been very quick to pick up on any medical issues too. It's reassuring when we leave from a visit that we
know he's being well looked after.

We have recently moved our Mum to Laurels Lodge and we can't believe the difference in comparison.
Everyone who works at the home has been so kind, always smiling and happy to see you.
We were very nervous about making the move for our mum but they filled us with such confidence. While viewing the
home for my mum I was blown away by the respect and compassion they had for the residents, which made me feel very comfortable that my mum was in a safe place.
I love how much activities are planned for the residents and very much love seeing all the updates on their social platforms. You can see the joy from not only the people but the staff working!
My Mum is still settling, the move has obviously been very confusing however she always tells us that the staff are very friendly and the food is good!

My mum went into Laurels Lodge Care Home at the height of covid until she sadly recently passed away.
My first thoughts of Laurels Lodge was it had a very cosy, homely and happy atmosphere. Mum was always shown kindness and care and was treated with respect and dignity. She always had a big smile for
the staff which says a lot.
We were always well informed of any concerns they had no matter how small which we very much appreciated and it was such a comfort to us knowing mum was in a place with staff who really cared.
I would like to thank management and staff for taking such good care of our beautiful mum. You have one of hardest jobs and you do it with such care and compassion.
I would have no hesitation and would highly recommend Laurels Lodge for anyone looking for the best care for their loved ones.

When it came to Mum needing 24-hour care the only place we would consider was Laurel's Lodge. We had previous experience with Laurel's and would not want our mum going anywhere else. We were very lucky that Mum got a room.
The whole staff at Laurel's treat their residents as part of their family.
The time and patience they have for each resident is unbelievable. "Nothing too much for them".
As for the social activities well these are endless and there is something to suit everyone. It's so nice to see them all smiling and participating, we really struggled at home to keep Mum occupied and stimulated.
We will never be able to thank the staff at Laurel's for all their care/love/understanding/patience towards Mum and the family as a whole. Cannot recommend Laurel's enough.

Have dealt with Laurels Lodge Care Home in the past with my brother and dad. Now my mum is a resident, wouldn't want her to go anywhere else. The best in Aberdeen. Staff are brilliant, so kind even to family. Residents have the very best of care. Wouldn't want my mum anywhere else. The best home ever.

We couldn't rate Laurels Lodge high enough. The home was clean and didn't smell. The decor was okay. The staff were excellent with my Father and with the family - always happy to help, give advice, and take phone calls. They were always quick to pick up any medical issues.

It is always hard when a family member has to go into permanent care but the staff and management at Laurels Lodge Care Home have made this process as painless as possible for all family members and most importantly for my mother-in-law. They have shown kindness and care to her since she arrived even
when she has been quite difficult to manage. This has made it easier on all of us but in particular her husband.

I would describe Laurels Lodge as having a family atmosphere all staff are very friendly and approachable. The outside is very well kept and the inside is clean and modern. Meals are various so plenty of choices for everyone. Staff make sure all residents are clean and well turned out (men shaved and
ladies' hair done). The activities are exceptionally good and all levels are catered for. Regardless of what the worker's title is everyone works as a team from manager to domestic and everyone in between this leads to a great atmosphere in the home for both residents and visitors, I am so glad my mum has come to stay at Laurels as I know she will be well cared for and safe.

My mum went into Laurels while Covid was at its peak.
I wasn’t allowed to see her in her own unit due to this. But it was made possible for me to see her.
When I was allowed to see Mum, she looked happy, relaxed, clean, and most of all, as if she was having the best time.
Once I was allowed up
to her room, I was allowed to decorate it as much as I liked, and this was after it had been freshened up with new wallpaper and paint.
Mum always had a smile for all the carers, which I think says a lot.
Mum was happy, well-fed, clean and cared for. The carers went over and beyond with care.
They treated my mum as if she was one of theirs, with respect and dignity at all times.
Like family.
Sadly, my mum died in January of this year, and this is when the carers went beyond my expectations.
The care they gave both my mum and me was way beyond anything I expected.
I would highly recommend the Laurels to anybody considering putting their loved one into care.

My father moved into Laurels Lodge in November 2022. I could not ask for a better place for Dad. He is so well cared for and the staff are friendly, caring and compassionate. There are lots of activities and entertainment provided and families and friends are always welcomed with a smile and a cup of
tea. The staff also ensure that we are well informed of any issues regarding Dad.

Staff are amazing with residents, my dad lives there and he is difficult at times, but the staff deal with him professionally.
The staff really get the residents involved in all the entertainment, my dad loves dancing and singing staff are always there to have a dance with him.

My mother moved into Laurels Lodge at the beginning of August, having recently been diagnosed with vascular dementia. She has settled in very well and I am very happy that she is in an environment that she feels at home in. The staff put the residents at the forefront of what they do. It is a very caring
environment. The home is very active on social media and it's great we get to see a snapshot of the day to day activities that they are involved in.

As soon as I had been shown round Laurels Lodge Care Home I knew it was the right care home for my mum. The building is clean, bright and cosy and the staff are so caring, helpful, kind and cheerful. Mum has been a resident for eight weeks and I'm happy to say she's settling in well. The staff have
been very supportive with Mum's transition into residential care. The residents are well cared for and have a varied menu at mealtimes with a choice of good nutritious food. There's stimulating activities every day where residents, staff and relatives can get involved. It's really lovely seeing Mum smiling, singing and dancing again. Thank you to all the staff of Laurels Lodge Care Home, you are all angels.

My mum has been at the Laurels for a year now, and we couldn't have asked for a better place for mum to be. She is so well looked after by all the staff, who are so caring and compassionate. Most have them have been there for a long time, so they know all the residents (and their families, who are always
made welcome) really well. Mum's appetite has improved so much since she arrived, which was a worry before, and there are always lots of activities and entertainment. Special occasions like Valentine's Day and Easter are celebrated, along with birthdays, which is lovely for the residents. Staff are always willing to join in the fun or even provide last-minute entertainment when bad weather gets in the way. The staff always let you if they are concerned about your relative, which is reassuring. It is a weight off my mind knowing mum is being well looked after by people who really care.

My mother is in Laurels Lodge Care Home and has been there for about three years now. All the staff and support workers take really good care of our mother and keep us well-informed on any issues. They did very well during the lockdowns etc. due to Covid and took great care to protect all residents.
The main thing is that they retain all their staff, which is good for the residents that they see the same faces on a daily basis.

Since my grandma moved into Laurels Lodge, I've noticed a big improvement in her generally. She's eating well and more importantly, she's actually enjoying the food. She's also much happier now she's in the company of other people. The staff are brilliant with her. They promote her independence where
she is able and assist her when she needs it. She looks well looked after. The staff are kind and caring and enjoy having a laugh with my grandma, which is just what she needs! At home she was so lonely, it's great to see the difference in her in just a few months!

The staff are exceptional with very many long-serving staff. This is highly unusual in the care sector. They all know my dad so well and they are so open and friendly with relatives. This creates a happy, loving atmosphere. I know my dada is loved and cared for and this is a comfort for his family.

Sheila Gesma

Job Title: Home Manager

Sheila has been with Laurels Lodge Care Home for over 20 years and started working as a Care Assistant while she was completing her Nursing Adaptation Course in the UK.


Sheila is a Registered General Nurse who had years of experience working in various clinical areas in a hospital setting in the Philippines before coming to the UK. After 4 months of arriving in the UK, Sheila received her NMC nursing registration and worked as a Staff Nurse at Laurels Lodge then worked her way up the ladder and became the Home Manager in 2012. Sheila has also completed the SVQ Level 4 in Leadership and Management in 2010.


Outside of work, Sheila likes listening to music and cross-stitching, but she has also participated in exciting events such as white water rafting and Go Ape.


Sheila values her team and always makes it a point to thank them even in the simplest of things and she believes in the saying, "Why leave it for tomorrow when you can do it today".

Jay first arrived in the UK in 2004. Completed his Nursing Adaptation Course in 5 months and became a Full Registered General Nurse in the UK in the same year. Jay has clinical nursing experiences in the Philippines and other countries and spent the first 9 years of his nursing career at Laurels Lodge Care Home. Jay became the Charge Nurse of the home from 2006 to 2012 then Deputy Manager until 2013. Jay worked in other different Care Homes for many years as a Staff Nurse and Deputy Manager and came back to Laurels Lodge in 2021.


Jay loves music and dancing. He enjoys hiking and exploring Scotland's most beautiful places with his family.

Amanda

Amanda Yeats

Job Title: Senior Nursing Care Assistant

Joined: 1999

Amanda is the longest-serving member of staff at Laurels Lodge Care Home, she has been an employee at Laurels for 23 years now, she started as a Care Assistant and worked her way up to become a Senior Nursing Care Assistant.
Amanda plays various roles in the home, she is currently the home’s Moving & Handling Coordinator, Dementia Ambassador, Oral Health Champion, Enquiry Champion, Fire Warden and Infection Prevention & Control Champion.


Joanna

Joanna has worked as a Care Assistant at Laurels Lodge Care Home for 12 years now and continues to enjoy her job. Joanna also works as a part-time Cook and is also good at it.


She has been chosen as the Laurels Gem of the Month for March 2023 for her dedication and compassion, she is ready to go that extra mile for the residents and the home.


Joanna is a jolly person and is well known in the home to be always "on the go". Joanna is also one of the Oral Care and IPC Champions in the home.

Nomeda has made a difference in our catering department since she joined Laurels Lodge Care Home.


She has managed the kitchen and her team effectively and is a proactive leader.


Nomeda is a cat lover and together with her pet Bengal, they have joined various competitions which they have won many times. Nomeda also likes travelling and spending time outdoors.

Morag has been with Laurels Lodge Care Home for over 13 years now, she believes that working in the home has changed her life significantly for the better. Morag enjoys spending time with the residents and sharing a laugh with them and with her colleagues. Many times Morag went above and beyond for the residents and the home.


Morag loves being a grandmother and she spends most of her days off looking after her niece and grandson.

Kevin Mair

Job Title: Domestic Assistant

Kevin works at Laurels Lodge as a Domestic Assistant, he enjoys helping his colleagues and he loves spending talking to the residents. Kevin is very good at keeping the interiors of the home clean, tidy and presentable.


Outside work, he loves dressing up as Boy George on special occasions.


Kevin believes in facing the problem right away rather than leaving it until it builds up.

Vibelaine likes to be called Vibz. She is a Staff Nurse at Laurels Lodge Care Home and has been working since 2019. Vibz is an international nurse hired from the Philippines, she completed her OSCE within 3 months and became a Registered General Nurse in the UK. Vibz enjoys working at Laurels Lodge and gets on well with her colleagues.

Originally from Nottingham, John moved to Scotland after 17 years in the military, he decided to work in the healthcare sector as he is looking for a job that is rewarding. Since John joined the team at Laurel's, he has developed a good rapport with the residents and his colleagues.


The things John likes to do are wild camping and touring on his motorcycle, and the things to know about John amongst many things is that he is a qualified diving instructor!
