My father has been in Burnside care home throughout lockdown. The staff have worked so hard to keep all residents Covid-19 free but allow families to communicate through window visits and Skype. He was the first person I knew to have his 2 vaccinations given. My father is profoundly deaf yet we have
managed to work with staff to see how he is and keep in touch with the outside world. Today I managed to get into his room to see him after a Covid-19 screen. It was amazing to just sit with him and see him in person again. I have to give credit to the amazing staff who have had quite journey to reassure residents and their families and to keep in touch regarding health issues. They are responsive to our enquires on how Dad is and I appreciate that they print and deliver my weekly letters to Dad. It is very challenging for all care homes at the moment but a big well done and thank you to Burnside staff for their efforts.

Our Mum was admitted to Burnside Nursing Home in early January, having spent six months in hospital following a major stroke. Having spent weeks investigating various nursing homes in the area, Burnside was the only place that we felt confident could meet Mum’s medical needs. The manager and staff made
Mum very welcome and we immediately felt that she was in safe hands, despite Covid restrictions. The communication from the nursing staff and carers was helpful since restrictions meant we were unable to visit. We would recommend this care home to anyone who may be at that stage, where a nursing home decision is imminent.

My Dad is currently in Burnside for Respite care. I cannot fault the care he is receiving. He is very settled and not in a hurry to go home. Cannot thank the admin staff and nurses enough for everything. Even went to the lengths to take photos of him and send them to me. Thank you all.

Both my parents have been resident at Burnside for approx 3 years. I can’t recommend this home more highly. Staff are efficient but caring and most staff have been employed there for many years. There seem to be fewer temporary/agency nurses employed which I believe helps with continuity of staff, and
thus makes a difference to residents, particularly those with dementia. I would not hesitate to recommend Burnside to anyone contemplating any level of care for their family member.

Burnside is a fantastic home for our mother. The home and rooms are lovely decorated with beautiful garden space. The staff are absolutely brilliant, very caring and compassionate. They have done a fantastic job during this very hard time and they have all worked so hard. Our mum is happy and very well

My father has been at Burnside for over 13-months, and the care and compassion he has received has been first-class. During the time he has been in the nursing home, he has had some ups and downs regarding his health, the communication has always been very good, always keep my family updated. The food
has been good and my father on his good days, has eaten very well; having two bowls of porridge, eggs and toast for breakfast, soup and sandwiches for lunch and main course and sweet for tea along with tea and biscuits in between. Any visitors who are there when tea and biscuits are supplied for the residents; offer them to the visitors as well. The staff from the management, carers, nurses and anyone else I or my father have dealings with, are friendly, funny and happy, which makes the whole place function well.
My family cannot thank all the staff enough for the care given to my dad.

I would like to leave a review of my uncle's care since he has been a resident for the last year. I find the staff are very friendly and they go out of their way to help with anything my uncle needs.
I love the entertainment they put on for the residents, and everybody seems to enjoy a bit of fun with
the staff. I'm sure I could not find a better care home for my uncle.

Burnside is run with a friendly, relaxed family atmosphere, with staff knowing patients needs, likes etc. and nothing is too much trouble. Staff also get to know family members and they are well informed of any changes in health or needs. Plenty of space inside and out so patients can do their own thing.
Patients encouraged to change things in rooms to make it feel like home. Excellent food as I discovered at Dad's birthday tea which the home organised. Wide range of activities if patients want to join in.

Burnside Nursing Home kindly allowed us to have a lovely afternoon tea today to celebrate my father in law's birthday. They had the table all laid out with a lovely tea set and delicious sandwiches/sausage rolls/pork pies and cakes and then to top it all off the cook had baked a birthday cake. It made
my father in law's day to have all the family together. The staff are so kind and helpful and it is very reassuring to know that our loved one is being cared for in such an excellent facility. Can't thank them enough.

After a hip replacement, my mother was admitted to Burnside Nursing Home for rehabilitation. My first introduction was with the home manager and associated care staff. They make me very welcome and explained the care plan for mum.
During my visits to the home, it was evident that the staff were compassionate,
respectful and showed great decency towards my mother's well-being, even though most of the time, mum was bedridden, the staff made every effort to make sure her stay was as pleasant as possible. She was always kept clean, comfortable and safe. If she could write this review I'm sure she would tell of how pleased she was with the kindness and excellent care. Thank you so much for everything you have done for mum. It's very much appreciated.

I was met with kindness and wise advice when I arrived for rehabilitation after I broke my leg. I had ready access to physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Members of staff willingly and diligently followed up exercises supplied by the physiotherapist and I paid a home visit with the occupational
therapist. A care manager from the council monitored my progress at a meeting helped regularly. This kept my family up to date. I feel strongly that my improvement has been greatly helped by the gentle encouragement and continued support by staff members.

Our Mum was admitted to Burnside Care Home in May after a few days in Hospital. She was very poorly. The manager and staff made her very welcome and we immediately felt that Mum was in safe hands. Mums health improved under their care for a short time. However, despite their best efforts Mum passed
away a few weeks later. The level of understanding and support from the nursing staff and carers was outstanding both for Mum and for us as a visiting family. They could not do enough and they work well together as a team, under caring leadership. We would not hesitate to recommend this care home to others, which is important in these times when there is so much negativity within the care system.

Staff are amazing. I believe it stems from the Manager. They are happy and a pleasure to be around. I was there for rehab and they let me do everything for myself, but I knew they were there if I needed them. I am sure that's why I was able to go home so quickly.

My mother entered Burnside at the end of May 2018 after spending one month in hospital due to a fall at home. She is no longer capable of caring for herself and her mobility is limited. Since entering Burnside, she has gained strength, confidence and is noticeably happier than she has been for several
years.
The conditions in the facility are excellent, the staff are attentive, friendly and very good interacting with the residents and visitors alike.
The meals are so good, my mother has said everything she has had has been excellent. The facility lounges, gardens and general surroundings make for an excellent environment for my mother to live out her remaining years in comfort and good company.
It is the kind of place that I would hope, if necessary, where I could go to either for recuperation or long term residency due to care requirements. No hesitation in recommending Burnside. Excellent staff, facilities and environment.

Marion

Marion Gordon

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 1990

Marion is one of Silverline Care’s longest-serving team members, having joined Burnside Care Home when it first opened in 1990. Marion started as an enrolled nurse then went on to do her diploma in Nursing.


Marion says she is very happy to be part of Silverline, a very caring company with a clear vision.
She added: “Being a home manager is a very tough job at times but one which can be very rewarding. At Silverline Care, we act with integrity towards all of our residents and we are constantly sharing ways to achieve excellence with our other homes in Scotland and Yorkshire.”
