My relative has been a resident for the last 12 years. I cannot fault the care he receives from all members of staff. They are friendly and always happy to help. A clean and tidy home, hard-working staff and food looks good. I will be forever grateful. Thank you so much.

The Pentland View is a welcoming and friendly care home. All the staff are approachable and helpful if you have any problems. The living room is large and tastefully furnished and is a good place for families to get together. The large garden is well maintained and we use it frequently weather permitting.
I would have no problem in recommending the care home to anyone looking to place a loved one.

Carers cannot be faulted. All are diligent, thoughtful and patient. Food is adequate but varies with who the cook is on duty. One instance, omelette like a flat piece of cardboard, totally indigestible! Garden peas served al dente and hardly cooked enough. Eggs, poached or fried, yolks are always hard.

Mum has settled in well. She feels well looked after and has a good relationship with staff and has made firm friendships with other residents.

I was apprehensive about going into a nursing home as I have always been independent but my son was advised by a doctor for my safety. I can honestly say that I am very happy and surprised. The home is lovely and comfortable. The food is excellent and the staff are excellent too.

I cannot praise this home enough. The care my mother has received is first class. Exceptional, friendly staff... All willing to go 'the extra mile'. All work well as a team and the manager and the head of the unit ensure the staff deliver an excellent standard of care. I am updated daily on mum's frail
condition and have every confidence that mum's privacy and dignity are respected at all times.

I have visited Pentland View for many years. Firstly to visit a friend, then my aunt was a resident. At present, I have been visiting a friend for 6 years, so probably a visitor for well over 20 years. The home is always clean and tidy. The staff are pleasant and helpful! Some entertainment is provided.
A hairdresser and a podiatrist visit regularly. The meals are good. The staff have made an attractive garden. I had looked at other nursing homes for my aunt but decided Pentland View was superior.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.476)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.476) out of 10 for Barchester Pentland View Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.676 for Barchester Pentland View Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (75 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.676

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Pentland View Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.9

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
