With beautiful sea views over Dornoch Firth and the cathedral, The Meadows is in a stunning location. But it’s the team, who treat their residents like family, which make this home really special.

Dedicated to enriching the lives of their residents, they provide residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care, as well as respite care breaks. These can be booked in advance, so are ideal for family carers who would like to book a short break themselves, with the peace of mind of knowing their loved one is in safe hands and enjoying a break of their own.

Activities are a huge part of life in the home, which is often filled with music, from singers and guitarists to pipers and violinists! The lounges, which have views over the Firth, are a wonderful space to relax and enjoy activities, from gentle exercise sessions, bowling, baking and painting, to interactive games on a special giant tablet and animal visits.

With the beach a stone’s throw from the home, residents enjoy trips to the seaside, the local cathedral, shopping, coffee shops and pub lunches. The home is also opposite a community allotment and orchard, where the residents can enjoy picnics and walks in the summer.

The Meadows has a hair salon, and with a member of the team also a trained hairdresser, this room is popular for pampering.

The home’s chef prepares delicious home-cooked cuisine, from roast dinners with all the trimmings, to lighter bites and freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea.

The team is passionate about the residents and their loved ones having a very active role to play in how their home is run. There are resident ambassadors who provide feedback to the team on everything from the menu to the activities on offer and are very involved in residents’ meetings.

The private family and friends Facebook page ensures that loved ones can be involved even if they can't be there in person.

Overall, satisfied with the care provided. Could be a bit more homely, more institutional than previously, especially for upstair residents. Staff are amazing, friendly and very approachable.

The only thing missing that I notice is that there is no internet connection since ownership changed earlier in the year. We are unable to view our Cloud photographs on Ipad. Everything else is excellent.

This has been an extremely worrying time for people with elderly relatives in care homes with their vulnerability to Covid infection. Throughout this period, the staff have phoned us regularly to keep us informed about the situation in the home, this has helped massively in alleviating our worries.
This was not a surprise to us, as since my mother became a resident in the home, we have always felt that we have been well informed of her situation and condition. We feel that we have been very fortunate that she has a place in this care home, especially over this stressful time.

My mother has been a resident at the Meadows Nursing Home since November 2018. The Matron and all her staff, from the start, have always been friendly and welcoming. They care for Mum and always make a point of recognising her needs, likes and dislikes. The recent pandemic brought difficulties for residents,
staff and relatives. Government rules have been hard for everyone so I cannot praise the staff enough for their kindness and support, always keeping the family informed of Mum's welfare. The staff have been excellent throughout these difficult times and despite the pandemic, their attitude and dedication has remained positive and the level of care has been maintained at a very high standard.

Very good experience of speaking with and emails with staff. Whilst not being able to see the home on the inside due to the current Covid situation, we have a good sense of the place from the interactions.

Joined: 2006

Jennifer has worked at our home for nearly 20 years. She has worked in roles across the home, including domestic assistant, care assistant and of course her true calling - activities coordinator!
She loves everything about her job, especially her daily interactions with our residents and enriching their lives with inspiring and engaging activities.
