Tyneholm Stables is a beautiful home, full of character and warmth. A converted stable block, set in gated courtyards, it has stunning views over the surrounding countryside.

But it’s the team, who are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents, which make this home special. Providing residential, dementia and nursing care, the home won a Top 20 Care Home Scotland Award by carehome.co.uk for two years running (2022 and 2023). This award is based on the glowing reviews from residents and their families.

There are so many wonderful activities to enjoy, from live music, reminiscence sessions and crafts, to spending time with the home’s trainee therapy dog Gunner, whom the residents adore.

The home also has a Magic Table, a fabulous piece of technology designed for residents living with dementia, where they play interactive light games which encourage gentle movement and healthy competition!

The local community are embraced into life at Tyneholm Stables. Local school children are regular visitors, and the residents enjoy exercise to music classes. They also love visiting Pencaitland Day Centre, where they socialise with people from the local community over lunches, live music, bingo and more.

Mealtimes are a real highlight of the day, with the home’s chef preparing delicious, home-cooked meals, from haggis, neeps and tatties and roast dinners with all the trimmings, to freshly baked treats for afternoon tea. The residents also enjoy cookery sessions, making everything from cakes and biscuits to pizza.

The spacious lounges, which overlook the surrounding countryside, are a wonderful space to relax and watch farm animals, kestrel, and deer. And the courtyard gardens, with wheelchair friendly pathways, are wonderful spaces to enjoy with loved ones, who are welcome at any time.

The home also has a private family and friends Facebook group, filled with videos and photographs.

My mum was in the care home during the lockdown. This was a very difficult time for all. Everyone in the home tried to make things as easy as possible and tried to accommodate you where possible. My mum always reassured me she was being well looked after and everyone was nice to her. She was happy in
her surroundings. This was a great comfort to me. Window visits, tent visits and pod visits became the norm. Mum was a very fussy eater, and they make her special meals to suit her taste.

Anyone who has to make the difficult decision of putting a family member into a care home... look no further. The team here are fantastic! We recently had to make the tough decision to put my gran into a home. We searched high and low, which was a nightmare in the current climate. I spoke to the manager
who had me sold from day one. She really understands what you are going through, and takes the time to explain everything to you and even helps explain the process you go through with the care worker. Her team are superb! From the lady who works in the office to the carers, they go over and above to ensure that the best care is given to gran; they treat her like a person and not just a number. They do everything they can to make sure you get window visits keeping gran and the residents safe. They communicate brilliantly, and the weekly newsletter of what the residents have been up to each week is a great read! Thank you all for helping gran settle in!

Tyneholm agreed to take my mother at very short notice after other homes were reluctant. This last year has been extremely difficult for them and all their residents as well as for relatives. They have coped with everything with professional flexibility and good humour as well as genuine compassion.

My mother is content and well looked after and has been so much more relaxed since she moved in after a terrible year previously of ever-increasing anxiety.

I am hugely grateful to all the staff for their care. They are always ready to talk to me about any concerns and have genuinely got to know my mother and made her feel part of a safe and kind community.

Since moving into Tyneholm Stables my Mum has had the very best of care. As a family, it was a very difficult decision for us all but has been the best decision for all of us. The staff is caring, pleasant, and attentive and nursing staff excellent. During the last difficult few months, we have been
kept informed of what thas been happening and decisions made. We would like to applaud all at Tyneholm Stables for taking care of our Mum under very difficult and stressful circumstances.

Wonderful, caring staff, very clean home, smell fresh and aired. Redecorated in the past year. Very cheerful residents and staff. Staff always have time to chat with me if I have any concerns about my mum; I just have to ask. I'm well informed about mums health issues. During Covid-19 pandemic, I have
telephone calls, newsletters and emails about my mum and what residents have been up too. I've even had a visit via the window to see my mum, which has been helpful and grateful to the home staff for allowing. The home has a wonderful feeling of care any time I've visited. I would recommend this home 100%.

The care home has a real home from home feel with staff going above and beyond to make the residents feel special regardless of their day to day needs. Even under the current Covid-19 situation, there is varied entertainment every day to keep the residents active.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Tyneholm to anyone I know who has a relative going into care.
The staff show real care and affection for the residents and there is a feel-good factor about Tyneholm when I go in to visit my Dad.

My sister is well cared for in a pleasing environment by cheerful and care workers.

The home keeps me well-informed about minor incidents or accidents which involve her but which don't particularly upset her since she quickly forgets about them.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.968)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.968) out of 10 for Tyneholm Stables Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.490 for Tyneholm Stables Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (64 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.49

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.478 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Tyneholm Stables Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 9 = 0.778

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
