I am so pleased that my father spent his final days at Eildon House. Unfortunately, due to his declining health, he passed away within weeks of moving in. The care he received during his short stay was excellent - the staff were very kind and managed all his care needs with attention to detail and compassion.
They kept me fully informed of his situation and supported me during my visits. The end-of-life care he received was provided with great respect and dignity. Eildon House is a well-maintained, comfortable and very welcoming care home; I was always greeted with a smile and an update on my arrival. My father's room was charming; clean, spacious, and full of light, with a fantastic view of the Edinburgh skyline. Based on my experience, I would not hesitate in recommending Eildon House to anyone seeking care for themselves or a loved one.

Eildon is well run and the staff are courteous and caring. The accommodation is satisfactory and my wife has a comfortable bed and her person is clean. She is well-fed and shows no sign of weight loss. She is contented so far as can be judged but her communication is poor due to her dementia. I am satisfied
that Eildon is providing the best care available

Our 90-year-old dad stayed at Eildon House for a 2-week respite stay. This was his first time in respite, so we were all nervous and a bit anxious. The manager and her staff were very supportive and gave us a lot of reassurance about respite care and our dad's adjustment to his 'holiday room'.
During
his stay, we found he was more alert and engaged during our visits. We managed to get him out several times during his stay to a local cafe something which has been difficult when at home.
The staff were always friendly and approachable. Eildon's House had a lovely homely feel about it, it was clean and the room my dad had was fantastic, bright, and airy with wonderful views of the Castle.
It was also lovely to see the residents doing their yoga exercises and getting pampered by the hairdressers.
Although there is a lack of garden space you are close to the Botanic Gardens for a trip out. We will definitely consider another respite stay in the future.

Since my mother came to the home she has been treated so well. Everyone is welcoming and always available to talk.
The home is always so clean and tidy and from the amazing smells coming from the kitchen, the food is excellent too.
I particularly like the social media posts, which give me an insight
into how the residents are entertained and cared for.

My mum moved into Eildon House in November 2023 with her little dog and they were both very warmly welcomed. All the staff are very friendly, happy and are very attentive. They have also been so kind to me and have supported me from day one as well, understanding that I have been feeling anxious, overwhelmed
and upset by my mum's health and have really looked after me as well. There is a lovely friendly family feel to the care home, the residents are always involved in activities in-house, going on outings or being pampered. Whenever I see my mum she is happy, her nails are done and she's mixing with the other residents in the lounge, not being kept in her room on her own. The activities manager is always coming up with new ideas for enrichment, she is extremely happy and bubbly and involves everyone. I cannot thank the staff enough for making both myself and my Mum feel so welcomed and looked after! I very much recommend Eildon House for your loved one, you won't be disappointed.

My mother moved into the care home in August 2023. She was given a very warm welcome by the staff and has settled in amazingly quickly. The staff are wonderfully supportive and caring, and they are always available to discuss any issues we may have. The care home provides a multitude of activities for
the residents and is very happy to hear of any ideas that would make residents stay happier.
We highly recommend Eildon House to anyone searching for the right nursing home for a loved one.

I had a number of issues I wished to discuss at a review meeting. I felt I was listened to and the care home acted on my requests. My aunt has been given a bigger room which she appreciates. This will enhance her lifestyle.

I am amazed at the positive difference in my aunt. She is more confident, and relaxed, and while we don't have long conversations, it's a nice time for both of us. She has said all the staff are very nice. I totally agree with her, as I, too have found everyone very helpful. Not sure how much I can
say.
For me, it has made life less difficult, as I know she is safe and well looked after.

Eildon House provides fantastic care, and is wonderfully caring, with great activities personalised to each individual and lovely rooms. The communal areas have just been redone and are looking great. Staff provide lots of information to relatives and go above and beyond treating residents as family.

Since moving into the care home, seven weeks ago, I found the accommodation first-class. All the staff I find to be very caring to all the patients. If I had a chance to stay here on a permanent basis, I would take it.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.702)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.702) out of 10 for Eildon House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.802 for Eildon House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (88 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.802

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Eildon House Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Lorena Brown

Job Title: Care Home Manager

My role at Eildon House is to have oversight of all departments in the home ranging from care through to Domestic and of course, the residents who live here. It is a role that I find challenging but rewarding and I'm very passionate about delivering high standards of care. I am also respectful to residents and the team and feel we all work together really well to provide person-centred outcomes.

Having graduated in 2010 my first job was to work as a staff nurse at Leuchie House, a charity providing respite for those with neurological conditions ranging from Motor Neurones disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington's and many more. It was a fast-paced environment and had to learn quickly on the job to develop the skills required to support our residents. Having worked there for 7 years I worked my way up from staff nurse to Charge Nurse and finally became the Clinical Nurse Manager. Having challenged myself I decided to leave to further my skills and develop into a managerial role and that’s when I went to work for HC-One as a deputy manager. This gave me so much clinical knowledge that I hadn’t had previously, after a year and a half I had enough to stand me in good stead to take up the position I'm in now.

Having been in the role here as a manager for nearly 7 years I'm continually learning day by day and I just love working in Mansfield Care, with my team and the residents.
