A stunning listed building with period features, Camilla House is a beautiful home. But it’s the team, several of whom have been with the home for over 10 years, which make it really special.

Passionate about enriching the lives of their residents, they organise so many wonderful activities and experiences for them to enjoy. From rides around Edinburgh on a trishaw and animal therapy visits, to baking and pamper sessions, with manicures and hand massages.

The local community are embraced into life at Camilla House. Children from the local nursery and dance school are regular visitors, as are community fitness instructors, who run gentle exercise sessions.

The residents love to hear performances from the local dementia choir and enjoy regular church services in the home, as well as attending the church’s friendship café. Every week the mobile hairdresser visits the home’s salon, for appointments with the residents. There are also regular visits from the chiropodist and optician, as well as weekly GP visits.

And there are trips galore in the home’s minibus, from the cinema, theatres and playhouse, to the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the local bird centre, Portobello Beach and trips on the Rathro Barge and Queen’s Ferry.

Mealtimes are a highlight of the day with the home’s award-winning chef, who has been with Camilla House for over 10 years and has won several awards in Sanctuary Care’s MasterChef competition. The residents enjoy delicious, traditional home-cooked meals, with freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea. This summer they have enjoyed growing their own produce in the home’s secure garden, which they harvested to use in the kitchen.

With bay windows and high ceilings, the lounges and dining rooms are beautiful, light and airy spaces to relax and spend time with loved ones. There is also a conservatory, which can be used for family celebrations and private dining.

My father was a resident at Camilla House in Edinburgh for three years. During that time the staff demonstrated extraordinary kindness and compassion to my dad and to us as a family, at all times. When the time came for him to set off on his next adventure, the staff on duty were truly incredibly and
made the experience one of calm and care. There is nothing they could have done differently. We are forever indebited to them for this. Thank you for everything, Camilla House team.

Our dad is happy and settled at Camilla House Care Home, and he is well cared for.
The settling in process was smooth straightforward.
The staff are very friendly and are attentive to our dad's needs. They keep us well informed.
The food is good and there is lovely home baking most days.
The nursing
staff are in regular contact with the local GP as required.
The management team are very approachable when needed.

Pleased to write a review here with regards to Camilla House Care Home and the lovely staff. My father-in-law arrived at the home straight from the hospital in June 2024. The Camilla care staff made everything very straight forward for my father-in-law and us as a family. He loved the food, which was
great as he lost a lot of weight in hospital.
He liked joining in all the activities and watching the world cup was one of his highlights (being an avid football fan) and playing bowls and singing.
Sadly my father in law passed away in December with his dementia and other health problems but it is lovely to know as a family that his last six and a half months were enjoyed by him and his care was excellent.

Camilla House Care Home is a very friendly, warm and safe environment. The staff have been there for a while and this helps continuity. They are able to build up relationships with the residents and give them the support that they need.
There is always various events/activities on that help stimulate
the residents especially from some wonderful dedicated team members.
The communication is great and works both ways.
My father has greatly benefited from being cared by these people.

My Mother has been in the care home for over a year, she enjoys singing, and the meals are very good and all made fresh with home baking most days. The staff are very good and helpful. Should my Mother need to see a doctor or hospital visit the office staff and carers sort it out and a member of staff
is always with her.
Should my Father be here at lunchtime he gets a meal. Overall I am very happy with the service and care my Mother gets.

My sister is well cared for and her needs are met. My sister is very happy with her new home and settled very well. All staff are excellent in their individual role. Staff are approachable and always someone there if needed to discuss any issues. The facilities are good with lots of well-being and fun
activities and planned outings that my sister participates in and enjoys. The food is also excellent and always snacks and fluids are available for all including visitors. I can have a meal with my sister if I choose which is great social interaction to be able to still dine with my sister. The home is warm and creates a lovely ambience for residents and visitors, it is clean and well-organised. Credit to all staff including management who put so much time and thought into arranging special events for residents and family to enjoy. I would highly recommend Camilla House to friends and family. My sister is very happy and that gives our family peace of mind that she settled so well.

My husband was in this home for ten months, till his death on 26th July. We were partly helped to pay by the council, as far as I know the full amount was paid. The room was very small and stuffy. Window looked out onto a roof. The bed was hospital style. He wasn't given a top sheet and blanket, I noticed
other residents were. He used a throw I took in on the bed. When I asked, I was told they would give him a summer duvet. He had one for two weeks, then back to the throw. I bought two duvets and covers. First one disappeared, second one I put on the bed myself. Two weeks later, back to the throw. I was never given a satisfactory explanation for this.

In terms of the duvet, our residents’ comfort is so important to us and during the summer months, your husband simply found the duvet made him too hot, so preferred to use the throw instead. My mother has been in Camilla House for two months and the staff are very good with her. She also likes the home cooked meals and baking and enjoys the sing-a-longs with one staff member. The home is clean and tidy with a nice garden to sit and relax.

My husband came to Camilla House Care Home from hospital where they had been unable to get him out of bed and he had lost two and a half stone in weight. He now walks from his room through to the main lounge and dining room with the help of two carers and is up all day. He enjoys all the food, eats
well and has gained some weight already! We are all very pleased with this progress.

Cannot do enough, for the people in Camilla House nothing is a bother. Lots going on for everyone, so many activities for all and Church service is good. All food really lovely, also cake and tea. Residents get birthday cake. Also, I would love to think, when my time comes, Camilla House would do for

I'm writing this on behalf of my dad. His wife has been a resident for two years and she's very happy there. The staff are lovely and they have also been very helpful to him which is really appreciated. The food is second to none which is not always the case with care homes and we cannot fault it in
any way. What a difference it's made to both my dad's wife and my dad's lives because they were really struggling (especially my dad because he couldn't manage to look after her any longer) The care and understanding she's received is excellent.
