Cluny Lodge is an outstanding care home with exceptional standards. Mum had been living in her own flat, with carers visiting, but with her vascular dementia increasingly struggling to cope. When viewing homes we had a number of criteria including a warm, safe environment, qualified nursing and support
staff, the experience of caring for clients with dementia, activities and the ability for Mum to feel like she was in her own home, not just a care home. We also wanted a place that could care for Mum through to the end of life. We have been so impressed with the warmth, expertise and calm, relaxed approach of the staff. All staff treated Mum with the utmost respect and tailored care to her individual requirements. They took time to find out about her family life before and built fabulous relationships with her and us as a family. Her room was beautiful, clean and with a lovely outlook. She was so happy there and we are so grateful to the team at Cluny Lodge.

When it was time for Mum to move into a home we visited a few in the local area and Cluny Lodge Care Home made an instant impression on us.
We were made to feel very welcome during our initial visit and again when we brought Mum in to have a look. The home was set up to feel homely and any staff we
encountered on these early visits couldn't have been more helpful or pleasant.
In the five years she lived at Cluny, she received excellent care from committed staff who genuinely appreciated her personality and sense of humour. Indeed, we got to know many of them well and saw the relationships they'd built with Mum first-hand. This was never more evident than towards the end of her life where the care and attention she received was all we could've hoped for.
We know Mum was happy and comfortable during her stay at Cluny, we were able to enjoy our time with her knowing she was safe and cared for and there were no family regrets about the original decision for Mum to move into Cluny all those years ago.

Placing my wife into the care of Cluny Lodge over three years ago was a difficult, painful decision for myself and our family. Since then, her dementia has advanced to leave no residual capacities for movement or verbal communication.
During the course of this journey, I have been a daily witness to
the professionalism that defines the Cluny Lodge experience.
In summary, over these years my wife was encouraged and supported to engage in a range of social activities appropriate to her diminishing capacity. And now, at this late stage, when engaging in any activity is impossible, she is wheeled to social occasions in the belief that this stimulation will be beneficial.
At every level, Cluny staff have been supportive and engaging: always friendly and cheerful, sensitive and attentive. The result is apparent every day: a bright and breezy atmosphere, spotlessly clean and warm, a hive of activity with an air of measured calm and loving attention lavished on my wife.

I am delighted with the standard of care at Cluny Lodge and it provided the perfect solution to my father’s needs. The level of understanding and patience that the staff have shown across the board has been exemplary, and because my father has dementia, this is no easy task. In addition, they are so
friendly, polite and engaging towards me when I visit. I would say they are personally invested in my father’s welfare and genuinely concerned that he is as happy and healthy as it’s possible to be, given his deteriorating health.
I would also like to say how impressed I was with their management of the pandemic and were able to navigate that tricky balance between safety and mental well-being perfectly. This is just one example of how efficient and well organised Cluny Lodge is ; I could not ask for any more!

Impossible to speak highly enough of Cluny Lodge - it changed my perceptions of what life in a care home could be. The decision to come into a home was traumatic for my relative who was shy and used to a solitary, academic existence but they absolutely got to the heart of who he was and respected his
wish for privacy and quiet. This last period of his life spent at the home had value and dignity. Every single staff member was patient and accommodating - from the fundamentals of good food and basic care right through to the conversations and social interactions. Staff found out his interests and hobbies and kept him engaged and alert. Their care towards the very end of his life was exceptional. There was genuine mutual fondness and he was kept so comfortable and peaceful. Communications with us in any form were always great and we (and his other friends who were always made so welcome) genuinely miss seeing the staff now he is no longer with us.

My brother and I cannot praise the staff at Cluny Lodge Care Home highly enough for the care they provided our mother. Everyone treated Mum with great dignity and respect and took time to learn how she liked things done which was very important to her. Of great importance was the consistency of care
and most of the senior and nursing staff, as well as many carers, remained unchanged over five years which, we believe, is indicative of the standards in the home. The surroundings and cleanliness in Cluny are of a very high standard as are the laundry facilities and food. The gardens are beautifully tended, all of which provide the residents with a truly homely environment. The activities staff provide many activities and they transform Cluny into a wonderland for Christmas, Easter and other holidays. As well as the care given to Mum, my brother and I were given excellent support during Mum's end-of-life care. We thank everyone and truly appreciate everything that was done for our family.

Everything at Cluny Lodge Care Home was of the highest quality and standard, in fact, one could argue it was the gold standard of nursing homes. Every member of staff was professional, kind, caring and friendly to both of us. The meals were excellent, the rooms are clean and homely and the laundry appeared
freshly ironed within a day. The standard of care generally was first-class.

My brother was a resident in Cluny Lodge Care Home for six years, as a result of having a rare neurological condition. The staff cared for him with compassion and a high level of professionalism through to his final days. He felt loved and supported which was so important to the family. Nothing was
too much bother. It was very hard to put my brother into care but Cluny Lodge was undoubtedly the right choice. I highly recommend Cluny Lodge.

All my mother's needs are promptly taken care of. This includes clothing, toiletries, spectacles and dental care. The infections that she was prone to when being cared for in her own home have occurred with much less frequency. Food is fresh and appropriate. The control of Covid in the home has been
exemplary. Staff are helpful and cheerful.

It was not easy to let go of my mum into the care of others. However, I recently realised that I have a warm feeling inside every time I leave her due to the trust I have in the staff who care for her. After a recent stay in hospital, neither my mum nor I could wait until she got back 'home' to her
friends and carers. When she did arrive back, the staff were as pleased to see her as she was to see them! Testimony to the way she and I feel about her new 'family'.

Cluny Lodge Care Home became my home in October 2021 and I am very happy here. It's different from being at home on my own but I enjoy the company and the chance to chat, make friends and take part in the different activities. I especially enjoy the exercise classes and minibus outings and the staff
here are so kind and happy to care for me. As an only child, I am getting used to living in a big family and learning to wait my turn for attention! But I feel safe, secure and loved in my new 'home'!

At Cluny Lodge Care Home my father receives the most attentive, compassionate, individualised care his family could possibly hope for. The staff work as an excellent team; they communicate really well with my father, with his family and with each other. The staff always seem to have time to listen to
him, to help him in any way that he needs including reassurance and friendly companionship; they have fun with him and they support and encourage him throughout the days and nights when he is wakeful. The staff treat my father with respect; they allow him full dignity and they refer to him to find out what he needs, how best to fulfil his needs and to allow him to make decisions for himself, in as far that is as possible. The staff, the whole team, treat him as a friend and as part of a family; he responds really well to their care and attention. The staff make my father feel safe, respected, valued and cherished; we all feel extremely well supported. I really appreciate all that they do.

Mum received the highest standard of care. From entering the home and retaining as much independence as possible through to palliative care and end of life support. As a family, we were all supported through the dying process. At all times the staff at Cluny Lodge Care Home knew who we were when we
phoned and Mum had a consistent care team - always the same staff. All at Cluny Lodge from domestics, care, nursing and kitchen clearly work as a team and all supported us and gave Mum a peaceful and dignified passing. This model of care is what all must aspire to and should be considered as the ideal in the developing national care service.

My mum spent her last ten months at Cluny Lodge and the care provided was excellent in every respect.

My mother's care at Cluny Lodge is impeccable. Although she arrived post-surgery in the middle of lockdown just before Christmas, nothing was too much trouble to help her settle in and to reassure our family. Her basic care is wonderful but more importantly, she is treated as an individual with genuine
interest, warmth and respect.

My husband has had a severe stroke and now has mild vascular dementia. He is not happy because of his situation. The care he receives is good and the staff do their best to look after a difficult resident. I feel there are not enough staff at peak times such as lunch/dinner/bed times as my husband often
has to wait for long periods when he calls for attention, admittedly not always necessary but it is in his mind. This adds to his discomfort.

Everything from the upkeep to the attentive staff at Cluny Lodge is superb. The friendly reception is always on hand to help with queries and every time I am seated outside with my grandmother, staff would always greet you when they walked by. Cluny Lodge has been so fantastic during the pandemic. The staff are all so caring and have taken such good care of Mum for so many years. She is really happy there, having made lots of new friends, and even reuniting with old ones, also residents at Cluny! Even though I have not been able to fly to
the UK this past year due to the Coronavirus, I have never felt anxious about Mum as she is in such wonderful hands. Communication with Cluny nursing staff is excellent, and they are always ready to go above and beyond to fulfil any requests the family may have for Mum. I’ve already told my daughter to put my name on the Cluny waiting list when my time comes!! Thank you, everyone. We really appreciate all you do for Mum.

I have worked for Elder Homes for just over 10 years and started as a newly qualified nurse in the Balmoral suite. Over the years I have worked my way up to unit manager and now work in the Argyll Unit. I studied adult nursing and found my passion working with older adults. In my free time I enjoy both watching and attending rugby matches and following Scotland at Murrayfield. I am hoping to do the Lions tour of New Zealand in 2029. I have grand plans to do a world cruise when I retire. I enjoy movies and going to the cinema. I live with my partner, and we have a crazy cat called Luna. My nieces and nephews mean the world to me, and I love being the aunty who gets to spoil them with sugar and toys.

Part of my role is to support staff from their induction and throughout their progress within Elder Homes. This includes developing and delivering relevant training around all subjects, with a particular focus on dementia and end of life care. It is a privilege to watch staff grow in knowledge and confidence and know that this will help continue to deliver the best quality care to those we support. Within my role I also support family members and students, during their time connected to Elder Homes.


Growing up I always wanted to be a nurse or a teacher – I now get to do both! I trained as a nurse in the West Midlands, a long time ago, then moved up to Edinburgh in 1992, where I ‘fell into’ care home nursing but realised I loved it.


We recently moved out of Edinburgh and I am loving exploring Midlothian with my 2 year old dog, Bonnie

Albanian by origin, I embarked on a new chapter in Scotland in 2009. In Albania, I worked as a notary assistant for nearly 3 years. The genuine joy derived from this work is why I continue to thrive in this environment. Balancing this with motherhood to my vibrant 8-year-old son, my family is my anchor. In my leisure, I immerse myself in the beauty of nature through hiking and cycling, find solace in the pages of books, and enjoy the thrill of various sports like tennis and volleyball.
