Colinton Care Home is located in Edinburgh's Merchiston area and is convenient for shops, amenities, public transport and Edinburgh City Bypass. Princess Street and the city centre are just 10 minutes by car. The home offers nursing, respite, palliative, and dementia care.

This purpose built care home has been extensively refurbished with updated facilities and redecorated rooms, and provides accommodation in single occupancy rooms, all of which have en-suite facilities.

Colinton features TV lounges and quiet sitting rooms for relaxation. Separate dining rooms, where residents can socialise at meal times are also available. The home provides restaurant style dining and meals are cooked by their chef using local and fresh produce. Residents can select from the daily choices available. Special diets can be catered for.

Residents may benefit from the regular visits made to the home by an experienced hair stylist, chiropodist and physiotherapist. If required, complementary therapies can be arranged.

The home provides a range of activities for residents. The recreation and activities team oversee everything: from theatre and beach trips to excursions to the safari park in Sterling.

I came to visit my aunt and was very pleasantly surprised by my first experience of a care home. Lovely welcome at reception and I was taken to my aunt's room which is beautiful and overlooks the garden. Spotlessly clean and all the staff were happy and enjoying a Hawaiian Day with BBQ and I was invited
too.

I visited my friend for the first time since they moved into the home as I was in Scotland on holiday. I found the staff all very welcoming and friendly. The house smelled lovely and clean. My friend is very happy there, I was most impressed with the house overall and the atmosphere in it.

My Mum has recently moved in. All the staff have been fantastic with Mum and with the family. They have been patient and kind. Mum has settled in quickly due to the excellent care she is receiving. It is a big relief to us to see her health start to improve. She enjoys the regular activities and is
starting to become more social again. The food is excellent and mealtimes are also a chance for her to meet other residents. Her room is beautiful and the whole care home is spotlessly clean. The manager is always available to help.

First impressions when entering the care home are very welcoming. Staff at front of house extremely friendly and helpful. The manager is very much available and integrates with the residents. The whole place has a very good feel to it and is very well cared for. All staff offer to have a good relationship
with the residents.

Staff are extremely pleasant and caring. The home is always clean and tidy. Excellent range of activities and we are always welcome to join in which we do. Sitting rooms are lovely and bright with several televisions, lots of music and DVDs for use as well as jigsaws, games and books. The lovely walled
garden where residents can sit in the summer when flowers are in full bloom.
Do not know if the value for money as I'm only a friend and don't know the cost. Unable to recommend as I live in West Lothian but would definitely recommend for someone living in Edinburgh.

A very well run care home. Excellent staff members and a good variety of activities, very friendly towards all residents and friends. Include everyone in the activities and do not push people into taking part one is free to come and go as they wish.
Good hairdressing facilities, sitting rooms bright
and homely. A lovely walled garden which will be good for residents once the weather improves to go outside and sit in the sunshine. The bust stops at the care home so it is easy for access as parking can be difficult.

We are delighted with the care our mother receives at Colinton Care Home. The staff are all very friendly, caring and kind. The facilities are very clean and well maintained. Although my mother chooses not to participate, we like that there is a wide variety of entertainment and trips should she care
to join in but I like how she is never forced or moved into the main lounge if she doesn't want to. I have recommended the home to others and can wholeheartedly say that we are all very happy that our mother is a resident of Colinton Care Home.

My mum has been at Colinton Care Home for eight years. The home is very homely and the staff are so caring and thoughtful. Earlier this year, my mum was admitted to the hospital and I could not wait to get her back to the home, as the hospital is not the same. The care for the elderly is not the same.
Now my mum is back at Colinton, she is coming on in leaps and bounds. The care home is my mums home now, and all the staff are like an extended family.

My mother has been a resident here for a few years now and is extremely happy there. She has a lovely bedroom which is always clean and was completely decorated not so long ago. The staff are exceptionally friendly towards all the residents and very welcoming to family and friends at all times. The
management are always very approachable. There are activities arranged for most days in the week as well as outings, weather permitting.


The menu is always on display for visitors to read and the meals appear to have a good choice. There is a residents meeting held every three months when they are asked for their views on such things as the food and activities on offer. There is also a relatives meeting held every three months when management update everybody on any issues that arise.


Overall we are very happy with how mum has been looked after and would have no hesitation in recommending this Care Home.

Over the last year, my friend has deteriorated mentally and has become much more difficult to be looked after. She is almost completely blind and very deaf also!
The care team cope very well with her. They are also very good at keeping me up to date with any changes in her care.

My father was admitted for a week's trial with Alzheimer's which the home profess to be experienced with. However, all the staff were unable to cope with my Dad being disoriented after only 24 hours in a strange environment and showed no duty of care to repatriating him appropriately.
Fortunately,
I have managed to organise this appropriately but this home is not as advertised able to deal with the challenging behaviour of mental health elderly patients.
I was contacted because he was pacing and standing to play dominos.
Am very disappointed with the care & support received.

My mother was very ill and we all thought she was passing away. Every member of staff from admin to housekeeping were amazingly supportive. My sisters and myself were offered to stay over if we wanted to. A day does not pass when at least one member of staff tells my mother how much they love her. She
didn't pass and is now nearly always in bed, they take wonderful care of her, they really are very special people.

My mother has been a resident in Colinton since March 2012. She has been looked after very well with all her needs attended to with care and compassion. Over the 4 years the standard of care and home management have continually improved. All our requests have been responded to promptly and efficiently.
My mother, although suffering from severe dementia, is more relaxed and less anxious than she has been in a long time. "Excellent care"

My mother has been cared for at Colinton for several years. She has been well looked after by the staff. They understand her desire for privacy and she is not pressed to take part in activities unless she wants to.
She has a lovely room which is kept very clean and has recently been refurbished. The
staff have been very caring and supportive to relatives too and I always find someone welcoming me or cheering me up when dementia makes my mother seem difficult.

I have been so impressed by the level of care my gran has received. She was upset to be leaving her home of 60 years, but the staff have been so lovely and welcoming that she how considers Colinton her home. There are always activities and outings that she can participate in if she wishes, and family
involvement is actively encouraged. I also didn't expect to see how involved the management are - they know all the residents and spend time listening to them and are involved in the events that take place. The only issue is that we (gran's family) often find other people's clothes in gran's room. The staff are patient, friendly and clearly enjoy their work. Thank you for your wonderful work!

All the staff at this home are exemplary - their standard of care in all areas is outstanding.
The cleanliness, standard of food, medical care are all outstanding.
The home is beautifully decorated. Messages are relayed in a timely manner between all the shifts and family members. We all felt dad
had found another "family" in his year there. Dad never has a negative word to say about anyone.

My mum has been in the above care home for a year and she has excellent care in all her daily life. She has Alzheimers, is registered blind and is diabetic. Mum's care in the community before coming to Colinton was awful and she was nervous being alone so much. Now her meals are provided on time, her
medication administered well and most important to her, she feels safe and well looked after. Colinton has excellent management and staff who actually care. These people need a medal for their commitment. We as a family feel mum is in safe hands.

Elizabeth Cass

Job Title: Home Manager

Liz Cass brings over 15 years of dedicated nursing experience, having served as a nurse, charge nurse, unit manager, and deputy manager.
From April 2014 to December 2022, she managed the dementia unit at Colinton Care Home and held the position of Deputy Manager. After a brief period of career development, Liz returned to Colinton as the Home Manager, motivated by her passion for elder care.
In her spare time, Liz enjoys adventurous outings with her son, whom she considers to be her greatest achievement outside of her work.
She advises families to trust their decision when choosing a care home. Liz is deeply committed to the happiness and well-being of her residents, always going above and beyond to meet their needs.
In her own words Liz says “My love for working with our older generation has never failed me and my residents are at the forefront of everything I do. I will go above and beyond to ensure the happiness and well-being of everyone within the home. “
